Subject: [HCDX] Weak carrier on 9720 KHz

Unident, 9719.965, 1130-1145. Noted a very weak carrier on 9720 +- during
the period. This frequency was active with Radio Victoria, Peru,

a few years ago. Since Radio Victoria ceased broadcasting on 6020 KHz there
hasn't been any activity on 9720KHz either. But there's always a

possibility that the station will start broadcasting again? I don't know
the

actual history of this station, why it ceased broadcasting or if it's ever

going to start up again? Today there was no audio heard here, just the
carrier. (Chuck Bolland, October 9, 2013)

Indonesia, 4749.884, RRI Makassar, Pres. 1145-1200, Noted a threshold
signal here with some audio off and on, but basically just a carrier.
(Chuck Bolland, October 9, 2013)

MARIANA, Presumed, 15199.99, Radio Free Asia, 1155-1200, At tune in, noted
ID in English as "... Radio Free Asia" Then program went to music in
Laotian language (presumed). At 1200, dead air broadcasted until a few
minutes after 1200 when a broadcast continues in unknown language. Signal
seemed weaker than the one prior to 1200, so it could be another station or
the same one with a different antenna beam. Prior to 1200 however, the
station was Radio Free Asia. Please note that country and language are both
presumed. (Chuck Bolland, October 9, 2013)

Unident 18075.555, 570 ORO, 1225-1231 Noted CW AM broadcast. Station
calling CQ. Entire transmission was as follows: CQ CQ DE 570 ORO 570 ORO
Then he repeats the calling to CQ. After a few seconds, 570 ORO calls CQ
again. This continues until 1231 UTC. Signal was clear and strong.
Nothing heard after 1232 UTC.

"CQ CQ DE DE 570 ORO 570 ORO"

"CQ CQ DE DE 570 ORO 570 ORO"

** CUBA [and non]. 7320, Oct 9 at 0516, big open carrier, and then
just-barely-modulated spy numbers alternating with digital bursts. Also barely
audible underneath is R. Rossii, which normally has no such QRM. At 0531, still
JBM only with longer 5-digit number strings. New frequency for this? RHC itself
never uses the 7 MHz band as an international law-abiding station (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 560, Oct 9 at 1200 UT, super-hype voice actor (SHVA) with full ID
for XESRD, preceded and followed by gobierno PSAs. Cant?:
560 XESRD La Tremenda +FM 89.3 Santiago Papasquiaro, Dgo. 10,000 1,000
Also CCI from another XE further to the east/south, but nothing from El Norte
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 700, Oct 9 at 1223 UT, adstring mentioning Parral, 1225 dead air
with hum slightly growing, which lasts until it finally comes to life again at
1231.5 with more ads, starting to fade; 1234 live announcer discussing b?isbol,
timecheck, mentions an FM on .3; Cant?:
700 XEGD La Poderosa + FM 90.3 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 5,000 1,000
and no doubt the same station as logged several times before on 700 with hummy
dead air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 980, Oct 9 at 1215 UT, competing with KMBZ, I hear ``radio Rosita``
mentioned, tho unlikely a station name, points to XENR in Nueva Rosita,
Coahuila. Strangely, Cant? locates it in a nearby town:
980 XENR Radio 980 Melchor M?zquiz, Coah. 5,000 500
[Cant? is unreliable for accents; I had to add the ? as per maps]
But IRCA Mexican Log 2012 and WRTH 2013 put it in Nueva Rosita. At least they
all agree on the powers. Another town nearby is Sabinas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [non]. 15400, Oct 9 at 0509, Arabic from R. Dabanga atop continuous
tone jammer; poor signal, 250 kW 335 degrees from MADAGASCAR but had not been
propagating lately.

15550, Oct 9 at 0509, R. Dabanga also audible here and // seems synchronized,
but this is 500 kW, 240 degrees from UAE, and not often heard at all here so
far off the beam. About same level as 15400, and no jamming audible on 15550.

At same time, 15580 VOA via Botswana also audible, and much stronger 15275 DW
via Rwanda. But nothing on 15120 from Nigeria or 15190 from Equatorial Guinea
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830, Oct 9 at 1152, open carrier/dead air from WTWW SFAW service;
still/again OC/DA after frequency change to 9479 at 1302 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

BRAZIL 4914.94 R. Difusora Macapa 026 Very nice "R. Difusora" ID at
0839:15 just seconds before 4915.026 pres. Daqui came on. Another ID amid
the QRM at 0840:55 . A few ads at 0855 including ment of Macapa. Really
nice signal and was hoping it would stay clear till at least 0900. (8 Oct.)

PERU 5039.16 R. Libertad de Junin 1003 nice Huayno, then live M anncr
w/morning prayers and mentioning names (please pray for so and so??) and
Junin. 1009 another Huayno. 1013 canned echo anmnt by M over mx w/ment of
internacional. Faded a lot in just 5 min. 1015 live M returned w/TC and
anmnts. (8 Oct.)

UNID. 6160.06 is there again at 1020 check. CKZN still too strong even
notched out. Faded very badly by 1100, so suspect LA. A screenshot showing
the signal can be found at https://app.box.com/s/hi3wa9p4qgcrylbb8utg (8
Oct.)

PERU 6173.85v R. Tawantinsuyo 1021 M w/usual morning nx pgm. Ment of
Cusco. TC at 1029 and nice ID w/ment of Peru. Lucky to get ID due to QRM.
1029 into ad by M w/ment of Cusco. 1031 back to nx w/live M. Drifted up 10
hz quickly at 1022. Heavy slop QRM taking over towards 1030. A screenshot
of the signal can be found at https://app.box.com/s/pu4jvp9oq65gdayj0ns2
(8 Oct.)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA 3905 R. New Ireland Per Ron Howard tip, found around
0900 when Hams weren't on. Stronger at 1104 w/pres. NBC nx by W in between
Ham contacts. 1148 looks like the Ham net went off and getting W anncr
tlking. Ment of PNG. Still tlking all the way to 1200 when more Hams came
up. Could still hear mx at 1200 through the Hams. (8 Oct.)

MYNAMAR 7200.08 Myanmar R. 1112 playing Asian C&W mx, then usual W
anncr. Muffled audio. Nice canned anmnt at 1118. One Ham was tuning up on
7199, then another on 7201. Faded a lot by 1130. Really picked back up to
very nice level at 1202, but Hams right on top of it. (8 Oct.)

INDIA 7270 AIR Chennai 1204 distorted audio w/subcont. mx and W anncr.
Hams prevented copy of closing at 1215. MP3 audio file can be found at
https://app.box.com/s/swvklehjccvg0lkwuq3d (8 Oct.)

ANDAMAN ISLANDS 4760.01 Definite signal here at 1147 but just not strong
enough to pull out any audio. (8 Oct.)

9 October 2013: Made the decision to go out to listen on the fact Mosoj
Chaski was good, Milne Bay and ENB were on and New Ireland was on yesterday,
and the disturbed condtitions can sometimes bring unusually good reception.
A few stations were better than usual, but conditions were only fair at
best. It was noisy also. 90mb PNGs were down in the mud. I could only
muster a little audio out of ENB. 3905 NBC New Ireland was absent. Hams
really blasted 41m. The highlight was definitely R. Quillabamba.

RX: Microtelecom Perseus SDR with ARR preamp.
ANT: 315' Beverage (BOG) at 0 degrees.
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26 (up on the hill just above the
parking lot).
Duration: 0910-1150.
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 112 A Index = 16 K Index = 4 G1 geomagnetic
storms with R1 radio blackouts. B2 X-ray Flux. 7 mhz MUF over all of
Canada and 6 mhz over AK.
WX: Clear to partly cloudy, 42 degrees

BRAZIL 4914.96 R. Difusora Macapa Just as I was about to hit the
button to start recording this fine signal around 0913, Daqui came on. (9
Oct.)

BOLIVIA 3310 R. Mosoj Chaski 0917 end of feature w/M host, and into
promo/info block including ID/promo anmnt by alternating M and W. Almost
all anmnts were alternaing M and W. Ments of corazon and Cochabamba.
0921-0923 pleasant campo song w/M vcl and chorus of girls. 0923- more
promos/info anmnts w/first canned anmnt w/M and W ending w/chorus singing
"...corazon". 0925-0927 another campo song w/women chorus. 0927-0930 live
studio M anncr host. 0930 more canned anmnts. 0932 tlk by live studio W
anncr host. Although still at a decent level, it seemed stronger at home.
(9 Oct.)

BRAZIL 4865.01 R. Verdes Florestas 0942 caught the IS followed by full
canned ID anmnt by M, and into live rel. vcl song by W. 0949 full canned ID
anmnt played again. 0949 into morning rel. pgm w/usual soft-spoken M host.
Later, heard the morning nx pgm. Strong and clear during the IS. MP3 audio
file can be found at https://app.box.com/s/aq8lp9io7oa35y38aakv (9 Oct.)

SPY 7320 Humongous signal from SP numbers station at 0955 wiping out
7295-7345. Was peaking at S9+60!!!!! (9 Oct.)

PERU 5024.94 R. Quillabamba 1004 found Rebelde had extremely weak
distorted audio and figured Quillabamba might be audible. Sure enough,
lowered the bandwidth way down, notched out Rebelde, and Quillabamba was
audible and intelligible. 1006 tlk by M in SP w/TC. 1008 nice Huayno. 1011
M returned w/TC given twice, song anmnt, and nice ID at least 4 times at
1011:50 and mensaje w/ment of provincia, commercial, TC twice again w/ment
of Quillabamba, and song anmnt. 1013-1016 another Huayno w/W vcl. 1016 M
DJ w/TC and song anmnt, ment nacional and internacional, Quillabamba, and
ending w/song amnt. 1019-1023 another Huayno w/group chorus. 1023-1025 M
returned w/TC but Rebeldes audio up now. 1025-1029 campo song w/man chorus
1028 Rebelde quiet again. 1029-1031 immediately into another song. 1031
brief deadair, then different M anncr DJ w/roomy sound to the audio and long
tlk w/ment of "buenos dias", "la voz camposina", and Quillabamba, programa,
Peru, 1037:40 possibly R. Quillabamba. 1039 another M anncer joined in
tlking past 1043. If Rebelde wasn't here, R. Quillabamba would probably be
as easy as R. Vision daily. MP3 audio file can be found at
https://app.box.com/s/epkawwblhpy50x3g6kjs And a screenshot of the signal
with Rebelde notched can be found at

UNID. 6160.06 The UNID. signal here was on again this morning. Its
imposs. to get any audio with the Canadians there. (9 Oct.)

90mb PNG signals were worse at 1045 than at 1000!! (9 Oct.)

PERU 4955 R. Cultural Amauta On the air at 1018:56 w/mx already in
progress. W anncr at 1023. Poor signal. (9 Oct.)

Quick search in the DXLD archive show most reports of this were last from
2008y, except this one from 2010:

``9720.03, R. Victoria, 0640, Spanish, sermon by soft-spoken man,
parallel to 6019.26. June 6 (David Sharp, NSW Australia. NRD-535D, FT-
950, R8, ICF-2010, ICF-SW7600GR etc., dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)``
?
Perhaps more likely is this one in Aoki:
9720 SRI LANKA BC????????????????? 1115-1215 1234567 Tamil??????????????????
125 345 Trincomalee??????????? CLN 0844N08108E SLBC a13 Jun.1?????????? 08? 44?
-81? 08
?
The only major broadcaster scheduled on 9720 at this time: and we know SLBC has
a hard time keeping their transmitters running, as in our 11905 logs (Glenn
Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
