Retro Radio Dial South East Asia 1953 _____________________________________ Those local Indonesian shortwave stations of memories, and other long forgotten friends: come along and jog old memories, and start a conversation about where have all the stations have gone with our new look at old time South East Asian radio. Malaya and Singapore were still colonies, Vietnam was fighting for independence from France, and Indonesia dominated the shortwaves with the powerful transmitters they'd inherited from the Dutch a few years earlier. It was a time of rising tension in the region, a time when Radio France-Asie still played romantic French songs from Saigon whilst Radio Hirondelle offered the Voice of the French Army programs from its studios in Hanoi.
