** CUBA [and non]. 6000, Sunday Feb 9 at 0705, open carrier presumably RHC
failing to broadcast its weekly Esperanto semihour; not strong and off by 0708;
all the other English frequencies were dead air by 0657 and off the air by
0700. Meanwhile another carrier on 5995 is JBM and slightly stronger, i.e. MALI
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 11675, Feb 9 at 1420, fair with very heavy flutter, IRIB IS and
sign-on routine, but cut off abruptly during Qur`an at 1424 (Allah`ll get`em
for that). However, there is still a much weaker unmodulated carrier on 11675,
also with flutter. HFCC shows it`s the Russian service at 320 degrees via
Sirjan which is supposed to start at 1420, taking over from Kamalabad 178
degrees with Urdu until 1420. I surmise that the remaining carrier is Kamalabad
which had not been turned off.

However, I did not recognize the language as Russian, so alternatively it could
have been something else such as Bengali, Hindi or Arabic, which was supposed
to be on the same Kam unit but on another frequency, which finally switched
late, and then uncovering the Sirjan one. In any event, VIRI once again fails
to get its acts together (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** JAPAN [and non]. 9595, Feb 9 at 0652, R. Nikkei I with severe QRDRM from
ROMANIA centred on 9600; DRM off at 0700 and RN1 is sufficiently audible in
Japanese; while non // RN2 on 9760 was and is stronger in the clear (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MOROCCO. 9575, Feb 9 at 0651, very poor signal with music; must be Médi Un;
0700 a little better with presumed news theme and talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11685-11690-11695, Feb 9 at 0654, DRM noise must be RNZI. HFCC
shows DRM on 13730 at 05-08, and on 11690 at 0645-0800, but it can`t possibly
be on both at the same time, with one DRM-capable transmitter. Instead, this
registration overlap leaves RNZI plenty of leeway to adjust the real QSY time.
Its current online schedule shows it happens at 0650-0651, while // AM 11725
remains from 0459 to 0758 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA [and non]. 9595-9600-9605, Feb 9 at 0652, DRM noise severely QRMing
9595, R. Nikkei, Japan. It`s RRI as scheduled 0630-0700 in English, 300 kW at
300 degrees per HFCC. Really? DRM powers are normally much reduced from full AM
level, but it`s plenty strong. This schedule
http://www.baseportal.com/cgi-bin/baseportal.pl?htx=/drmdx/main&sort=ITU,UTC
shows all ROU DRM are only at 90 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
