** CHINA. Now that I have to wake up an hour earlier on the average due to
DeteSTed DST, there will be earlier morning monitoring sessions. March 9, lots
and lots of CNR1 jamming, which during 1300 UT hour is presenting Chinese opera
(like Firedrake, except there`s also vocalizing). All with rather heavy
flutter; vs Sound of Hope, u.o.s.:

17780, March 9 at 1314, CNR1 opera jammer, good, vs BBC Uzbek via Oman

17080, March 9 at 1318, CNR1 opera jammer, good; none in 18s

16920, March 9 at 1318, CNR1 opera jammer, very good

16100, March 9 at 1318, CNR1 opera jammer, poor-fair

15555, March 9 at 1322, CNR1 opera jammer, very poor vs V. of Tibet`s het on
the lo side

15510, March 9 at 1322, CNR1 opera jammer, fair vs BBC Uzbek, Thailand

14920, March 9 at 1323, CNR1 opera jammer, good

14870, March 9 at 1323, CNR1 opera jammer, poor

13865, March 9 at 1326, CNR1 opera jammer, poor, vs BBZ Uzbek via Oman

13625, March 9 at 1326, CNR1 opera jammer, fair; unknown target: Aoki

12910, March 9 at 1327, CNR1 opera jammer, poor

12870, March 9 at 1327, CNR1 opera jammer, good

12190, March 9 at 1328, CNR1 opera jammer, poor; unusual, vs SOH 100 W

11760, March 9 at 1333, CNR1 opera jammer, vs SOH 300 kW, heavy on RHC

None in the 10s (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. The imposition of daylight shifting by Yanqui Imperialism
upon the tropical greatest Antille as of March 9 this year, is already causing
changes at RHC, but may not settle in for a while longer (if anything ever
settles in, with anomaly after anomaly even during ``normal`` times).

5025, March 9 at 0614, R. Rebelde is on, but distorted with modulation at
peaks; while 5040 & 6165 RHC are already off, possibly presaging regular
closing at 0600 instead of 0700, or not? Yet, RHC English is still running on
6000, 6060 and 6100.

15370, March 9 at 1321, NEW RHC frequency encountered, apparently ex-13780
which is missing; good and clear here, while // 15340 is as usual battling HCJB
Australia CCI. And 15230 is too weak and undermodulated to matter.

It looks like RHC morning programming has shifted one UT hour earlier as
expected: March 9 at 1317-1329, `El Mundo de la Filatelia` is running on all
the frequencies, such as 17580 & 17730; 12010 which is somewhat distorted
modulation; 11750 very poor with jazz CCI, i.e. VOA Tinang, PHILIPPINES, on
the air this hour only on Sats & Suns; 11760 with heavy CCCCCCI as the ChiCom
must jam Sound of Hope; see CHINA; 11860 clear modulation, and only lite music
CCI, which would be V. of Wilderness, religious cland from Tajikistan to Korea
North.

At 1335 I am expecting RHC`s Spanish DX program `En Contacto` to appear an hour
earlier as usual for DST, instead of 1435 so far this year during ST --- but
NOT! Instead, `La Cultura en Cuba` until 1354 when I compare frequency groups
from the two sites, which are an echo apart. One group is on 11760, 12010,
17580; the other on 17730, 15370, 15340, 15230, 11860, 11750.

I am hoping to copy a new frequency announcement but there are none circa 1330
or 1400, not even a timecheck to confirm DST has started. So will `En Contacto`
still be at 1435? NO! `La Cultura en Cuba` plays again an hour later! The other
`En Contacto` timings have been Sun 2340 & UT Mon 0235, which *should* now be
an hour earlier circa 2240 and 0135 on all the prevailing frequencies, unless
the show has been canceled, rather than lost in the DST shuffle today.

One more thing to check: has weekly Sunday Esperanto shifted an hour earlier as
usual, ex-1600? Yes! But not starting until 1503 on 11760 after some dead air.
Amazingly, schedule announcement has even been updated already: 0700 on 6010
(but probably wrong: last week was on 6000 & 6100); 1500 (``dek-kvin``) on
11760; 2230 on 15370. (The other two do not time-shift). Meanwhile some other
frequencies are also open carrier after 1500 Spanish closing: 11860, 15370,
17730; while these are already off by 1501: 12010, 15230, 17580. Not sure about
15340 where HCJB English is taking over (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 7475 // 9420 and weaker // 11645, March 9 at 0619 past 0630,
Helliniki Radiophonia is playing Chaikofsky`s great Symphony No. 6,
``Path?tique``; no Byzantine chanting this Sunday morning, but wonderful
replacement (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN [and non]. 13820, March 9 at 0623, Iran NA vs heavy pulse jamming, 0624
Qur`an, so certainly VIRI as scheduled with Albanian from 0620, 500 kW, 289
degrees via Kamalabad. It may have actually been the Albanian service this
time. Tnx a lot, Arnie! Cuban jamming is ``needed`` on 13820 only at 1400-2000
when R. Mart? is there; but for the lazy Commie Cubans it`s a lot easier just
to let it run 24 hours; who cares about collateral damage? (Glenn Hauser,

** MEXICO. 6185, March 9 at 0617, open carrier from XEPPM, but with the
wave-crashing white noise, maybe really open FM STL, which occasionally
accompanies it. DF and most of Mexico except US border cities will stay on CST
until April 6! Which means R. Educaci?n programming will seem to last an hour
later until 1 am CDT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 15120-AM, March 9 at 0626, very poor signal presumed VON, but wait
--- it`s in French! But wait again! Back to English by 0628. Maybe it was a
clip to be translated. Note: March 8 around 0700 I was hearing DRM noise around
15120, so VON was suspected of doing that instead of usual AM at this hour,
with DRM normally only at 1830-2000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 9475, 9930 & 12105, WTWWs are all starting one real hour
earlier now March 9 from circa 1300 UT = still 8 am Central. This increases
co-channel QRM on all three! 9475 with R. AUSTRALIA which runs 11-19 at least;
9930 with T8WH PALAU until 1400, English gospel huxtress (and back on at 15-18
with BS per Aoki); 12105 R. Free Asia in Burmese via SAIPAN at 1230-1430 (theme
and ID clearly heard underneath at 1329, fast SAH) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, March 9 at 1306, no signal from WRMI, altho 9690 is on with BS.
DST confusion? New graphic frequency schedule shows 9955 as 24 hours, but the
switch from 160 to 315 degrees and from transmitter 10 to 11, still at 1400 UT
during WRMI programming segment 11-15 UT. But program times shift one UT hour
earlier, which means that, if correct, the 1400 Wednesday airing of WOR to the
NW is back on the SSE antenna at 1300, leaving none on the NW antenna (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7315 & 5920, re final `Pirating With Cumbre` QSL address: sent to his
main e-mail, Chris Lobdell replies that QSLs will be mailed, and the correct
address is without the ``with``: piratingcumbre @ aol.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11715, March 9 at 1332, KJES VG in English, so has promptly made the
DST switch to a 13-16 UT schedule instead of 14-17 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGESET)

** U S A. 830, March 9 at 1348 UT music, then ``Family Life Radio`` ID, i.e.
KFLT Tucson AZ, 50/1 kW U2, which is now officially on ND day pattern after
1330 UT in March. 770, KKOB Albuquerque also still in (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN. 17590, March 9 at 1316, something intervening between the two
Spanish stations, 17580 Cuba and 17595 Spain. I quickly thought it was
Romanian, but gone a few minutes later and that doesn`t fit for RRI. It was
really Italian from Vatican Radio direct at 1300-1320 only, to the Mideast
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
