BBC Asian Network celebrates 50 years of Asian broadcasting
Last Saturday (10 October) marked 50 years of ground-breaking BBC programming
created to serve British Asians.
To celebrate, BBC Asian Network is marking the milestone both on and off air
over the next few months, with documentaries and archive content and
culminating in a comedy night in the home of BAME (Black, Asian, and minority
ethnic) broadcasting, Birmingham.
On 10th October, 1965, the BBC broadcast its first ever programme created
especially for the UK's newest inhabitants from South Asia. Called 'Apna Hi
Ghar Samajhiye? (Make Yourself at Home) and featuring language lessons and
handy household tips, it was created to help this new community assimilate into
British life.
This innovative programme not only reflected the lives of immigrants in the
60's, but also charted the growing confidence of a community which now calls
itself British-Asian.?
BBC Asian Network has produced a two part radio series called ?Asian Network
Presents: 50 Years of Asian Programming on the BBC?, which explores the past
five decades of Asian programming on the BBC. The first episode which aired on
Sunday 11October delved into early programming from 1965 to 1986.
It looked at these early years with music from icons like Reshma, Kishore Kumar
and the Sabri Brothers and clips from a diverse range of interviews including
Amitabh Bachchan, Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher. The episode is available
to listen back to on the BBC iPlayer for up to 30 days.
The second part airs this Sunday 18 October at 1pm and focuses on programmes
from the 1990?s, such as BBC Two?s Network East, Bollywood and Bust, Caf? 21
and Desi DNA, many of which were produced in BBC Birmingham.?
These strands were created to target second-generation British Asians and they
launched the careers of Sanjeev Bhaskar, Anita Rani, Adil Ray, and current BBC
Asian Network presenters Nihal Arthanyake and Bobby Friction.?
Over the next couple of months the BBC Asian Network will also be unearthing
archive interviews, live sessions and music for broadcast across their schedule.
To round off the celebrations of 50 years of Asian broadcasting, the station
will be holding a comedy night in Birmingham with comedians delivering stand up
shows, drawing on a range of popular television and radio clips from over the
years.?
Comedians taking part include Coventry?s Guz Khan who starts his Saturday
morning show on BBC Asian Network on 28November (6-10am), and India?s top
female comedian, Aditi Mittal.
Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes at the BBC Asian Network, said: ?It?s really
important that 50 years on from the first Asian programme on the BBC we are
still representing British-Asian audiences more strongly than ever.
?Birmingham was the birthplace of this type of BAME broadcasting and, five
decades on, BBC Asian Network continues to produce great programming for Radio,
iPlayer and Red Button in this diverse and vibrant city.?
?I?m excited to be celebrating this incredible narrative of British-Asian
cultural history. And the comedy night is the perfect way to welcome Guz Khan
into the Asian Network family.
?Also this autumn, in addition to Guz Khan, we will be welcoming Preeya
Kalidas, Harpz Kaur and Mim Shaikh to the station. These four talented new
presenters will be further strengthening the network?s commitment to our
audiences, delivering new shows with great music, guests and chat.??

Much fretting goes on nowadays about the future of traditional broadcast radio.
Appliances are changing, and the old-school radio that used to be a fixture in
kitchens, cars and pocket transistors has morphed rapidly into smartphones and
Wi-Fi devices.Though the future of broadcast is murky, the roots of what's now
consumed as?KIRO Radioon multiple platforms (including radios) is clear, and is
celebrating a big milestone this week.In a nearly hidden basement at 4th and
University Street in downtown Seattle, KIRO Radio officially went on the air 80
years ago with help from Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Vice President John Nance
Garner.Vice President Garner and other dignitaries were on hand in the Cobb
Building at 5 p.m. on Oct. 15, 1935 when KIRO boosted its power from 250 to 500
watts. Earlier that day, KIRO became the new call-letters for a station
formerly known as KPCB. The "PCB" stood for "Pacific Coast Biscuits," flagship
product of Seattle's Centennial Flour Mills. Local
businessman and politically well-connected U.S. Customs official Saul Haas
bought the station from Centennial executive Moritz Thomsen and set about
making big changes right away.Radio broadcasting was still a relatively new
phenomenon in 1935, and Haas set his sights on making KIRO a powerhouse. From
500 watts, KIRO ultimately beat every other station in the Northwest and, with
permission from the Federal Communications Commission, went to 50,000 watts
during the summer of 1941. To accomplish the boost, KIRO built a glamorous new
transmitter building and antenna array on Vashon/Maury Island. When the U.S.
entered World War II later that year, the government froze all pending power
boosts for radio stations, leaving KIRO the only 50,000-watt powerhouse west of
the Twin Cities and north of San Francisco for the next five years. The
nighttime signal went as far as Alaska and northern California.During World War
II, KIRO carried most of CBS' most famous broadcasts, including Ed
ward R. Murrow reporting from London, and other correspondents covering the
war in Europe and the Pacific. KIRO also made recordings of those famous
broadcasts, and saved them at the Vashon transmitter site. A University of
Washington professor named Milo Ryan discovered the collection in the 1950s,
and the entire treasure trove of audio history now resides in the National
Archives. Many recordings of famous World War II broadcasts exist only because
KIRO saved them. The other major milestone in KIRO's history was the move to the
news radio format in 1974, followed soon after by the securing of rights to
Seahawks' broadcasts for the team's inaugural season in 1976. Personalities
including Pete Gross, Jim French, Bill Yeend and Wayne Cody were among the most
recognizable voices on KIRO from the 1970s to the 1990s, along with
play-by-play for the Sonics by Bob Blackburn and then Kevin Calabro, and Dave
Niehaus and Rick Rizzs for the Mariners (unlike the Seahawks, the Sonics and
the Mariners weren't always with KIRO over the years).KIRO's combination of
news, sports and talk has ebbed and flowed over the past 41 years, but the
ingredients have remained basically the same. Saul Haas sold the station to
Bonneville in 1964; the station separated from KIRO TV and went through a
complicated series of ownership changes in the 1990s and 2000s, but came back
into the Bonneville fold in 2007. The programming mix of what had been KIRO 710
AM was moved to FM in 2009, a trend seen elsewhere in the U.S. over the past
decade. For people who love radio (including this biased writer and media
historian, who, full disclosure, is also curator of The Northwest Hall of Radio
History at Washington State University), the readily accessible presence of
live and local voices experiencing and talking about what's going on at that
particular moment in?real time?is what continues to set radio apart from every
other medium. It could even be argued that radio listeners who stay
tuned to a particular program or station are simultaneously "sharing" and
"liking" without having to click on an icon or post a link. Radio, some say, is
the original social media.Radio's greatest strength is its function as a kind
of community glue, linking people within range of the transmitter who have, at
the very least, geography in common. Hearing those familiar voices subtly
reminds us that we live in the same place as our neighbors, that we have a
stake in our community's future, as well as a responsibility to contribute to
the region we share. Radio (or whatever appliance delivers the program
nowadays) is the town crier or the bell in the steeple, bringing listeners
something mundane like a ho-hum weather report, something tragic like a natural
disaster, or something festive like a win by the home team. The future of radio
as an appliance is hard to predict, but it's clear that live and local audio
content will be celebrating milestones and birthdays for many decade
s to come.

** ALBANIA. 9850, Oct 15 at 0138, no signal from R. Tirana. May well be on, but
MUF is dropping at the end of the A-15 season. We can hardly wait until Oct 27
when English to N America moves to 7425, and to 0230-0300 UT Tue-Sun. (All RT
broadcasts will be on 7 MHz band; other English at 2100-2130 Mon-Sat on 7465;
might even need to drop to 6 MHz band) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SOLOMON ISLANDS. Another slight correxion: close-down time 1158:42* not
1159:42*, Viz.:
5020, Oct 14, I awaken at 1157, so hasten to this frequency almost buried in
splash from Rebelde 5025 music. The JBA carrier does cut off at 1158:42* in
keeping with SIBC normal practice (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1794 monitoring: confirmed Wed Oct 14 at 2100 on WBCQ
7490: first checked webcast, but fairly good signal later on 7490 --- this
should steadily improve westward with earlier sunsets, and get a good boost
from Nov with shift to one UT hour later, 2200.
EXCEPT! Per HFCC B-15, there will yet again be a collision with BBCWS in
English via THAILAND from 2200 on 7490, 250 kW at 25 degrees aimed right across
North America along the grayline! Frequency ``co?rdination`` fails again
because people who don`t actually try to LISTEN, can`t imagine this would be a
problem. At the very least there will be a het with WBCQ off-frequency.

** U S A. 7489.92-AM, Oct 15 at 0134, I`m checking WBCQ on the second week of
the revived `Hal Turner`, scheduled UT Thursdays 01-03. He`s telling his story
of unjust incarceration, which I don`t intend to get into in detail, and of
course this is all from his side only. Says the FBI paid him $3,000 in 2005 to
utter that federal judges ``deserved to be killed`` on two national TV shows.
Fine, but in 2009 he was betrayed, arrested, tried three times and finally
convicted (not sure I have those years right). Making him ``the first talk host
to be jailed for exercising free speech``.
Meanwhile, as promised, on this night only, Brother Scare is demoted from 7490v
to 5109.7-CUSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9330.09-CUSB, UT Thursday Oct 15 at 0128, I`m checking the new show
on WBCQ which started last week, coincidentally competing with the explosive
Hal Turner on the other WBCQ frequency. Started at 0100 but as I tune in,
identifying as from Joy Mennonite Church, 504 NE 16 St, Oklahoma City, phone
1-800-999-3534, a.k.a. Faith and Values Media. At tune in, was only S7, much
weaker than 7490, but by 0130 increases to S9+20.
0130 introduces with rendition of ``Praise God from whom all blessings
[allegedly] flow`` and ``Episode 4 of Mennonite Radio``. Lest you think they
are retro, followed by robotic voice saying that James has a cold, but then
human voices, including James? Trouble is, now there`s a mixture at almost
equal level with tango songs in Spanish, sounds like Gardel. At first I think
it`s meant to be background for some strange reason, but continues distracting
and QRMing past 0137. Check LSB and neither audio is there, both on USB only.
Church website http://joymennonite.org/ plugs the SW broadcast and refers to
http://www.mennoniteradio.org
This has downloads and summaries of the first four episodes, i.e. two per week
starting UT October 8. Guess what, the tango music is not accidental, but the
mixing was just a bit too loud:
``Tango with Torah ? a regular segment by James & Becky Branum, a married
couple who verbally tangos [sic] with each other and this week?s Torah portion
that would be traditionally be [sic] read in Jewish synagogues (background
music by [sic ? fill in the blank?]) ? This week?s portion is Parsha Noach
(Genesis 6:9-11:32)``
Carlos Gardel tango is in fact mentioned with Episode #1. I don`t see anything
about the other program they were supposedly airing, `Broad Spectrum Radio`.
``In the future we will also be sending out QSL cards to listeners who send us
QSL reports.`` Following further linx about SW radio, we come to this:
http://blog.jmb.mx/index.php/2015/09/18/a-unique-opportunity-to-get-into-shortwave-radio-broadcasting/
``A unique opportunity to get into Shortwave Radio Broadcasting?
jmbranum September 18, 2015 BLog, Radio 1 Comment
Regular readers of the JMB.mx blog know that I?m a very avid shortwave radio
listener. I am fascinated by the idea that a radio station on the other side of
the world can broadcast a signal and I can pick it up (thanks to radio waves
bouncing off of the ionosphere) thousands of miles away, but I also love the
way that radio waves don?t respect national borders.
Positively, Shortwave radio lets listeners hear stations that provide
alternative perspectives. While some countries try to jam these signals,
generally no country can block its citizens from hearing all shortwave
frequencies..
Negatively, the freedom of Shortwave radio allows some of the worst of human
tendencies to get an outsized voice. When it comes to Shortwave commercial
broadcasters in the USA, the stations tend to have a very narrow set of
perspectives being broadcast ? the majority being fundamentalist Christian
groups (some more moderately evangelical but most being on the fringe of
insanity IMHO), with the rest being a mix of extremely conservative Catholic
religious broadcasting (EWTN), several racist groups (including a "Kingdom
Identity" sect that promotes an anti-semitic Anglo-Israel message), and
paranoid conspiracy nuts like Alex Jones. Which of course seems like a crying
shame, that the many shortwave listeners around the world are hearing such a
biased and distorted perspective on America and its people.
So? in light of all of this, I saw an interesting announcement on the website
of the one of the commercial shortwave stations in the USA, that airtime was
available for a very low-cost. The station in question broadcasts an
interesting but also rather troubling mix of programs, including the racist
groups discussed above, yet I also appreciate the fact that they are free
speech purists and are willing to sell air time to almost anyone. And of course
that means that the fundamentalists and racists don?t get a monopoly on the
shortwave bands.
So in light of that, I?ve decide to a launch a radio project.
I don?t yet have a name for the project, but I?m planning to broadcast a weekly
one hour broadcast on 9330 mhz [sic] via WBCQ (broadcasting from Monticello,
Maine, with the best reception stretching from approximately Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, southeast through Chicago and then onward through much of the Upper
Midwest and Lower Appalachia through South Carolina, and then varying degrees
of reception radiating out from there, with some good chances of reception in
other parts of the USA, Canada, the Caribbean, Central & South America and
possibly Western Europe.
wbcq coverage map at 0200 utc [VOACAP]
My rough schedule for the hour broadcast might look something like this?
0-5 minutes introduction to program, thanks to sponsors (assuming I can get
some, etc.)
5-15 minutes (NEED TITLE) ? Program on peace, nonviolence and social justice
issues
15-18 minutes ? Program ID, Music and/or sponsor announcement
18-28 minutes ? (NEED TITLE) ? Program on Human rights and the law
28-30 minutes ? Program ID, Music and/or sponsor announcements
30-60 minutes ? (NEED TITLE) A Mennonite program, exploring issues of peace,
social justice, economy and theology from a progressive / anarchist Mennonite
perspective, probably a sermon along with some good singing, but maybe also
some interviews, story telling, etc.
So then besides doing the over-the-air broadcasts, the individual programs
would be available for online download as podcasts or possibly streaming format.
This might all be craziness but I think it is doable, assuming I can get some
folks lined up to help me make this happen.
The needed elements would be?
1. Around $125/month to purchase airtime.
2. Some musicians who would be willing to let their songs be played (without
paying royalties).
3. Ideally some content providers, folks who might be willing to put together
some short audio segments (i.e. the 10 minute program on peace, the 10 minute
program on human rights and the law and the 30 minute Mennonite program), or
else who might be willing to write copy that I could read for some of those
segments.
4. A lot of help in promoting the programming via social media.
5. Possibly an organizational sponsor ? I am up for doing this on my own if
need be, but it might be easier to pull off with some folks helping.
So anyway that?s what I?m working on. I?ve told the station that I?m committing
for a weekly slot in October but the odds of this happening over the long-haul
will dependent on the level of help I can get from the community!
On the money side of things, donations are certainly welcome and can be sent
via paypal through this button. I?m paying for the first month out of my pocket
but if I can get some donations for future programming that would be pretty
awesome!`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5830, Oct 15 at 0608, WTWW-1 is OFF, but 5085, WTWW-2 is on with
usual Art Bell show. At 1446, WTWW-1 is still off, neither on 9475 nor 5830.
What has Ted done now? #1 programming is of course first priority by the SFAW
owners, even tho it`s mostly 10+year-old stuff from pass? Pastor Pete Peters;
so why doesn`t he put that programming on the #2 transmitter (most of the
time), either on #1 frequencies or #2 frequencies? Then there`s the #3
transmitter which apparently funxions only in the afternoons on 12105 (not
always). Evidently #1 has failed, and lacks the flexibility to shift things
around. At 1636 UT Oct 15, nothing on 12105, 9930, nor 9475, all off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 702, Oct 15 at 0610 UT, JBA carrier, also at 0624, loops
east/west, which points to NZ rather than Eurafrica? No other 9-kHz carriers
found, not even 738 Tahiti which the west-coasters are getting even much
earlier than this (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ALBANIA. 9849.95, Oct 16 at 0130, JBA carrier from R. Tirana, so at least we
know it`s on, via off-frequency, just not propagating any more than that to
North America Central (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BONAIRE. 800, Oct 16 at 0120, weak Spanish underneath KQCV OKC gospel huxter
in English, making SAH of 2.53 Hz, presumed R. Transmundial, TWR, PJB, in the
absence of XEROK (or CKLW for that matter) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 11934.91, Oct 16 at 0050, Brazuguese mentions S?o Paulo, very poor
S3, from RB2; no sign of Cairo if it`s still attempting to reach Latin America
on 11935v (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 12070.0, Oct 16 at 0052, JBA carrier, presumed R. Cairo Spanish,
which if audiblized would surely be unlistenable. Sought here anyway after
hearing not even a carrier on // 11935, just Brasil, q.v. Then check Arabic on
9964.985 approx., S6 carrier with no modulation I can detect. Didn`t get around
to checking the fourth channel at this hour, 9315.
So where will they be mis-broadcasting in B-15 between 0045 and 0200? HFCC B-15
as usual shows more frequencies than transmitters, i.e. some are just wooden
alternates: 9315, 9860, 9965, 11750, 11935, 12070, 12080. English at 2300-2430
still on 9965; at 0200-0330 on 9315 or 9860 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** INDIA. 6155, Oct 16 at 0041, very poor signal with S Asian song, still so at
0114. HFCC shows AIR Urdu, 0000-0430, 250 kW, 282 degrees from Aligarh. No sign
of R. Fides, ex-6155.1, which very well may have been driven off that longtime
frequency by AIR inbooming to Bolivia. So far I`ve had no luck hearing Fides on
its replacement, 6055 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 1300, Oct 16 at 0127, as I tune in, ``Radio M?xico Noticias, XEP,
tercera edici?n, por Radio Trece, info desde Chihuahua Capital, en Radio M?xico
Noticias``. So Ciudad Ju?rez dominating as usual with 38 kW instead of 200
watts (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NEWFOUNDLAND [and non]. 2598-USB, Oct 16 at 0053, YL in English with marine
weather, very poor with storm noise level from western and northeastern OK. CGC
website says starting at 0048 is VCP Placentia, Nfld., via St. Lawrence site.
2749-USB, Oct 16 at 0053, YL in French, poor signal slightly better than 2598.
CGC says starting at 0040 is VCO Sydney, Nova Scotia via Port Caledonia site,
but not in French? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1170, Oct 16 at 0125 UT, KFAQ Tulsa forecasting a high today of 91
--- guess what, it`s night already, and this is outdated on a 50 kW
IBOC-monster. You can`t do better than that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1530, Oct 16 at 0030 UT, Gregorian chant catches my ear, like the
stuff your hear on EWTN/WEWN network; 0031 into lo-fi Spanish talk from phone,
0032 UT mentions Catedral de la Sagrada Familia; loops ESE/WNW, so I suppose
it`s just KXTD Wagoner, tho not the programming I would expect nor normally
hear on QueBuenaTulsa. No way it`s daytimer WJDM Elizabeth NJ, the only SS:REL
1530 listed in NRC AM Log (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1600, Oct 15 at 1818 UT on caradio, KUSH Cushing resumes the
`Marilu Henner Show` after a break; and at 1906 UT after some news, she herself
voices a KUSH ID. This is contrary to my recent writeup where I had found on
their website that Dennis Miller occupied the M-F 1-4 pm CT slot. So I search
on Marilu and find this:
``Happy New Year from the KUSH! Molly Payne Published on: 12/31/2014
This past year we have also added a few new things to the KUSH. In the fall,
not only did KUSH add a new show (The Marilu Henner Show) to its weekday
afternoon programming, but we also began broadcasting Drumright Tornado
football on Citylinktv/Drumright``
So it seems Marilu has been on KUSH for at least a year, altho the few-programs
page
http://1600kush.com/index.php?section=7
still shows Dennis Miller at 1-4 pm CT. There`s a lot about her guest lineup
every day, here when show is live at 9 am-noon `PST`,
presumably meaning PDT for the rest of October = 16-19 UT:
http://www.marilushow.com/
subtitled `Life, Love, Laughter` and a lot lighter, more variety than you would
get from far-right convert and ex-comedian Dennis Miller.
I don`t recall running across her talkshow before, and here`s why. Altho at a
variety of delayed times, affiliate list has only 28 stations, mostly in small
markets,
http://www.marilushow.com/?page_id=1857
with exception of: CKLW 800 Windsor and a few small stations in bigger cities.
But Clark Howard is still on afterwards, at 2107 UT check October 15. By now a
SAH is starting, presumably from 25 kW Vietnamese KRVA The Metroplex skywaving
already (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1650, Oct 16 at 0021 UT, promo by wacko Alex Jones at 9 pm on
``KYHN``; 0024 UT, jingle SID, ``Arklahoma`s Talk Radio, KYHN``. As of Oct 2,
the FCC thinx callsign changed to KFSW, so maybe that will be the legal ID at
next hourtop? Nope: same old KYHN SID jingle as at 0024 UT, adding ``Fort
Smith``, in an adjacent state, before 0100 UT CBS bong and news.
So --- more confusion about the identity of FCC Facility 87114 which is really
in Sallisaw, OK, but the city you have to search on at AM Query is Ft. Smith
--- the only AM station there, the others allegedly in Fort Smith. You`ll
recall an attempt earlier this year to change calls to W, yes, W-FSM which was
never heard on air either, and expunged from FCC records after having been
granted. So when will it ever become KFSW? Note the new call could be construed
as merging Fort Smith-SallisaW (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 96.5, ``Exitos 96.5`` is getting a lot of promotion on OKC`s
Estrella TV, KOCY ``48`` via RF 29 KTUZ, which I sometimes let run muted on a
spare screen to display the busty girls they so favor (?ojobombones?). (BTW,
previously this subchannel`s aspect ratio could be changed, but now it cannot,
despite needing to compensate at times for squeezing or stretching.)
96.5 in OKC is of course a mere 120-watt translator, K243BJ, licensed to Tyler
Media, which means it`s supposed to be relaying some other station, even an AM
one, but no such station is mentioned in its TV promotion, so is it being
illegally originally programmed? I suppose they could get away with that if
it`s officially duplicating some IBOC channel from a real FM station not worth
mentioning (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, Oct 16 at 0038, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, Urubamba. Retune at
0106 to track the sliding shutdown, and it`s so JB that I`m afraid I`ll miss it
if it happen during a choppy fade; but I do nail it at 0107:40.5*, which is
37.5 seconds later than last check six nights ago, Oct 10 until 0107:03*, i.e.
averaging 6.25 seconds per (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, Oct 16 at 0115:17.5 mis-timesignal from SLBC is JBA on
extremely weak signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TURKEY [and non]. 9777.00, Oct 16 at 0102, I`m tuning down the 9 MHz band
and find a 3 kHz het, quickly refined on the NRD-545 to here, weak S4 signal in
Spanish with news about Turkey, and // weaker 9870.00 which also has some CCI,
presumably India as usual. So the Emirler operator fingerslipped, punching in
9777 instead of 9770, the scheduled and usually heard frequency --- just one
more SNAFU from this site. Still there at 0131 with Turkish music.
The 9780 station getting abutted must have been ChiCom jamming and/or RFA
Uyghur via Kuwait. In B-15, VOT Turkish moves to 9410 and 9650, and like
everything else, one hour later at 02-03, as if coming and going of DST in
Turkey should impact listeners abroad! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1795 monitoring: confirmed Thursday October 5 at 2100
on WRMI 7570, sufficient. Also confirmed after 0100 UT Friday October 16, S9+20
on WBCQ 9330.06-CUSB. His voice sounds somewhat different than usual, modified
audio processing? but still quite clear. Followed at 0129 by WBCQ The Planet
ID/IS loop before closedown. Next:
Fri 2130 WRMI 15770 to NE
Fri 2130.5 WRMI 7570 to NW

Tue 1100 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9974.90, Oct 16 at 0056, KVOH at S9+25 with a `TruNews` clip of
Netanyahu, soon followed by Rick Wiles promoting his warped view of the world.
Frequency continues to vary slightly from time to time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9475, all day Oct 15 at random chex, WTWW-1 continues to be AWOL, nor
anything on 9930, the WTWW-2 frequency. However, 12105, Oct 15 circa 2110 UT,
WTWW-3 is on the air with Bibling in French (unlike a couple days ago when it
was dead air for hours and hours). And WTWW-2 had succeeded in broadcasting Art
Bell on 5085 at 0608 UT Oct 15 while WTWW-1 was off 5830. So the other two
transmitters are funxional, even if neither is being employed for
petunia-pushing Pastor Pete Peters. Perhaps Ted does not know how to operate 2
or 3 on any but their originally programmed frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 860, Oct 16 at 0122, KKOW Pittsburg KS with ``20/20 weather``,
forecasting cooloff there like here into the 60s/40s, then cowboy & indian love
song. At least their weather is not colored, like some radio stations claim, on
a totally aural medium except for synesthesians (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
