ISIS loyalists have reportedly launched radio station in Nangarhar province

https://www.khaama.com/isis-loyalists-have-reportedly-launched-radio-station-in-nangarhar-province-1818

The loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group
have reportedly launched a radio station in eastern Nangarhar province of
Afghanistan. The radio station ? Caliphate Radio, has been launched with an aim
to encourage encouraging local youth to enroll in jihadi ranks and airing
anti-government Islamic rulings, or fatwa. The security officials have not
confirmed the launch of the radio by ISIS fanatics so far, however the
provincial council officials have said the broadcast has already started using
a broadcast band of 90 FM.The launch of radio station by ISIS fanatics comes
amid growing concerns that the terror group is gaining foothold in Afghanistan
with more militants formerly fighting for other militant groups pledging
allegiance. The commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan Gen. John
Campbell said the loyalists of the terror group are attempting to establish a
regional base in Jalalabad, the capital city of eastern Nangarhar province with
foreign militants from Syria and Iraq had joining the ranks of ISIS loyalists
in eastern Nangarhar province.Gen. Campbell further added that the loyalists of
the terror group in Afghanistan are also trying to consolidate links with the
leadership of the terror group based in Syria and Iraq. This comes as the United
Nations late in the month of September this year, stating the terror group is
making inroads in Afghanistan with the number of sympathizers and followers
growing across the country. The report further added that the group is
recruiting followers in at least 25 provinces of Afghanistan with 10 percent of
the sympathizers belonging to the Taliban group.?The number of groups and
individuals who are openly declaring either loyalty to or sympathy with ISIL
continues to grow in a number of provinces in Afghanistan,? the report said. The
report also added that around 70 militants of the terror group are busy in
forming the core of the group?s branch in Afghanistan which was
initially formed by Abdul Rauf Khadem after visiting Iraq in 2014.

. ap?s as
05:00 UTC tenho escutado novamente ela nos 5005 kHz , o certo ? nessa hora
utc para fazer a escuta dela e enviar aos foruns . sobre erros posso
cometer erros sim , e sempre que vejo que errei eu me calo ou escuto e
aceito e procuro fazer o certo .
qualquer duvida estou a disposi??o . 73 Daniel wyllyans *

Maybe I came too late for Thimpu BTN this Dec 17 UT afternoon.

NOTHING HEARD OR VISIBLE on variable 6035 kHz,

only even 6035.000 kHz PBS Yunnan China noted at 1329 UT on Dec 17
S=8 here in Europe.

But on 5905 kHz heard a VERY TERRIBLE CRI Russian sce bcasts, HEAVY
DISTORTED audio from the digital SATELLITE FEED receiver at the relay
station.
S=9+10dB in Europe, at 1325 UT on Dec 17.

Since I am a few days behind in reporting logs (devoting most of my time
instead to compiling DXLD and WOR), I am going to catch up by separate posts
for each UT date:

** ARGENTINA. 15344.895 approx., Dec 14 at 2256 RAE ID and IS just barely
modulated at S8 with flutter, varied at the moment to this spot slightly below
nominal 15345 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY [non]. 7570, Monday Dec 14 at 2152, surprised to hear Dr Gabler and
the RMRC/EDXC special again on WRMI -- ``Video Killed the Radio Star`` song
playing again like exactly one week ago. It seems that WRMI did not reinstate
the program which this had pre-empted, i.e. `La Rosa de Tokio`, oddly-named
DX/media program from Argentina, Mondays at 21-22 on 7570 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1600, Dec 14 around 2107 UT on caradio, during Marilu Henner
talk-show, KUSH Cushing seems stronger than before --- this is about the target
date for their new 5 kW transmitter CP to come on the air, ex-1 kW in daytime.
But I have no way of measuring the strength or a record of what it was before.
This allows KUSH to cope better with the skywave QRM, worst at topend of band,
but by 2130 UT it`s losing out, and lost into the mess by 2150 UT. St Louis and
The Metroplex would be the dominant signals (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 1625 UT December 17

** AUSTRIA. 5910.0, Dec 15 at 0646, TWR in Polish, S7 vs a bit of running H2O
ute QRM; no HJDH QRM at the moment. Last time I heard this, TWR was
unexpectedly in English (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BIAFRA [non]. 11600, Dec 15 at 2042, no signal from R. Biafra, reported just
to have resumed SW on a new frequency from 2000, site not published, presumably
not Issoudun, whence they were banned in early November, ex 18-20 on 15560. I
suspect it`s now BULGARIA, fond of -00 frequencies, and in fact registered, but
not Brother Scare any more and not eastward (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO
1804, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 7425.0, Dec 15 at 0143, R. Mart? is S9 and // 7365; also // 7305
open carrier with a bit of Mart? audio bleeding thru. 7425 is the leapfrog
mixing product produced by the two Greenville transmitters/antennas
insufficiently isolated from each other; 7305 being a warmup for Vatican Radio
relay to start at 0145, violating Separation of Church and State (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUAM. 11590, Dec 15 at 1410, S Asian song at S9+10; 1414 announcement with
lots of numbers, frequencies or contact addresses; 1415 ``TWR, Aga?a, Guam``
and probably changing language at quarter-hour, TWR theme and some
``Namaskar``s. Previously unID but KTWR recently added a 1345-1430 broadcast
here. Ivo Ivanov says it`s in Dogri/unknown/Hindi (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN. 15140, Dec 15 at 1445, RSO is missing, not even a JBA carrier, as it
has been for several days now at various chex during the English hour and
Arabic later (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH AFRICA. 11750, Dec 15 at 2045, Christian hymn and unknown language
talk, fair; AWR IS and off at 2100*. It`s Yoruba, 250 kW, 328 degrees via SOUTH
AFRICA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7570, 7730, 5850, Dec 15 at 0644, NO signals from WRMI --- must be
power outage or something at Okeechobee. Not a propagation blackout, as am
still getting 7405 Mart? from NC at S9+20; 5830 WTWW-1 is S7 and ``hollow``.
Recheck 0707 now I do have WRMI VP on 9395 and JBA carrier + jamming on 9955.

15770, Tue Dec 15 at 2104, Brother Scare on WRMI, which supposedly switches to
Radio France International English relay at 21-22 on Tuesdays. Meanwhile, 7570
is in Italian as scheduled, Studio DX (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN. 7410, Dec 15 at 0144, American English catches my ear also with
bits of music at S8; 0156 mentions ``The Holy Father`` so can`t be anything but
VR, direct to S Asia at 0140-0200 following Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam, 20
minutes each from 0040 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Dec 15 at 1438, R. Sana`a clandestine atop IBB Kuwait,
just ending Qur`anic sundown call to prayer; still amazingly good signal over
here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ZANZIBAR. 11735, Dec 15 at 2043, VP signal with music, cuts off a few
seconds later around 2043.3*, typical behavior of ZBC, which sometimes stays on
until 2100 or a bit later. No Transmundial, Brasil audible in its absence
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BIAFRA [non]. 11600, Dec 16 at 2053, JBA carrier from R. Biafra. Other
reporters further east had been hearing drumming/music until this time when
they finally starting announcing in English. Ivo Ivanov confirms the new site
is Kostinbrod, BULGARIA, with a very strong signal for him a few km away. He
thought SPC might be on a 270-degree antenna to W Africa, but that is far from
the true bearing toward Biafra, 205 degrees. Wolfgang B?schel, looking at
Google Earth, says there is an antenna headed 195 degrees which would be a lot
closer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1804, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 5990, Dec 16 at 2053, JBA carrier here: I am checking John Cooper`s
report from PA of RNA at 2000, since Romania is also on 5990 until 2100, and
RNA has not been reported at any time on 5990 for many months. Recheck at 2102,
no longer a carrier on 5990.

11780, meanwhile, I`m also checking at 2053 for possible // to 5990, and find
no signal. Rechecking that at 2100, now it`s on with good signal, 11780.1 as
usual, so must have just started, for `A Voz do Brasil`, the mandatory
government hour at its DST timing. Could it be that same transmitter runs
daytimes on 5990 until 2100? Brasileiros could tell us.

John had also heard a timesignal on 5990, so I`m wondering if RNA ever does
that, or not. Or does RRI? Tuned in 11780 too late after 2100, but I`m
listening again at 2159-2202, and there is no TS; however Voz do Brasil is
running one minute over, not ending until 2201, then multi-Nacional station IDs
plus MEC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, Dec 16 at 0423, no signal from RNGE, Bata: I am
checking during every commercial break within ``Childhood`s End``, part 2 of 3,
new 6-hour miniseries of Arthur C. Clarke`s epic SF novel, on SyFy cable
channel. The whole thing will be repeated at 1400-2000 UT Sunday Dec 20.
Finally at 0525 and 0552, I am getting a JBA carrier on 5005 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9525.0, Dec 16 at 1322, JBA carrier from VOI during alleged
English hour. It may have corrected the frequency after years almost on 9526.0,
but no improvement in strength or modulation. Maybe changed to another even
weaker transmitter which happens to be closer to nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WORLD OF RADIO 1804, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5985, Wed Dec 16 at 1320, VP signal in talk; 1328
pianomusic, with Korean? Rapid beeping maybe jamming barely audible on hi side;
1333, typical Shiokaze sounder from JAPAN site (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** OMAN. 15140, Dec 16 at 1515, Radio (not Royal) Sultanate of Oman is back on
air after missing a week or two, in Arabic, music, S6. Rumen Pankov, Bulgaria,
had not heard this or other frequencies since Dec 3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1803 monitoring: confirmed the Wed Dec 16 1415.5
broadcast on WRMI 9955 at 1438 check, VG with no jamming. Also confirmed Wed
Dec 16 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490, VG and glad not to be hearing any BBC Thailand
CCI. Today it`s close to 7490.00-AM rather than 7489.9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5109.7-CUSB, UT Wed Dec 16 at 0245, `Amateur Radio Roundtable`
confirmed on new frequency via WBCQ, ex-9330-CUSB which was not propagating
well into the winter night. Even this is poor-fair, much weaker than competing
ham show on 5085 WTWW, as Ted and ARR have parted ways. ARR is however
primarily a live video webcast via http://w5kub.com Nominal length on WBCQ is
one sesquihour but can be extended. Host Tom Medlin wants to appeal to SWLs as
well as hams (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7570, Wed Dec 16 at 2108, WRMI with `FG Radio` as scheduled, also on
15770 but not synchronized, separate playouts. At 2115 on 7570, `Viva Miami` as
also scheduled, inviting listeners to an Okeechobee open house on Nov 30, so
it`s an old show, rest of it mailbag. `Wavescan` follows on 7570 at 2130, and
by now I`m not hearing 15770, which is supposed to carry 75% of the RFI English
hour Wednesdays starting at 2115 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Dec 16 at 1348, R. Sana`a music starts after
sermon/discussion; mostly rousing music after 1400, interrupted at 1437 for
Qur`an, sundown call to prayer, getting to be a reliable spot for it. Continues
to peak during this hour with remarkable strength way over here; fading a bit
after 1502 and CCI from IBB Kuwait grows (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO
1804, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6035, Dec 16 at 1338, I have two very weak carriers, one about
6035.03 and the other 6034.95, so I assume they are respectively, PBS Yunnan, V
of Shangri-La higher, and BBS Bhutan, lower; however, Ron Howard heard BBS
going off an hour earlier. However2, he agrees they are irregular and could
have come back on; and agrees on the precise frequencies.

However3, checking the following morning broadcast at 0022 Dec 17, Wolfgang
B?schel found BBS 100 Hz higher than usual, on 6035.053; while 24 hours after
my log, Yunnan was on exactly 6035.000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 7270, Dec 17 at 1345, a carrier is on here; 1356 can make
out some talk at VP level; 1400 timesignal as talk continues, then music, and
at 1403 I make the music // 7365, i.e. CNR1 jammers, but there is also a weaker
second signal. I`m checking this out because of a report of 7270 during the 14
hour as V. of China, clandestine from Taiwan.

But in all such cases, the first assumption one must make, is hearing a ChiCom
jammer. If that can be ruled out, then maybe it`s something else listed. This
also requires being alert to the * next to frequencies in the Aoki list,
meaning jammed! which seem to get lost or ignored. Ron Howard was also checking
this today and found no sign of V. of China, but the second signal was another
from inside China, PBS Nei Menggu in Mongolian.

V. of China is certainly an obscure California-based clandestine, allegedly on
air only two hours a day at 14 and 23 on 7270; see page 505 of WRTH 2015 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9524.99, Dec 17 at 1411, JBA carrier from VOI is audibly one
smidgen below 9525.00 on the R75, or maybe 9524.98 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5985, Thu Dec 17 at 1339, Sea Breeze in English with
usual sounders, mentioning human rights, 1341 piano interlude, S8.

Ron Howard tells why last Thursday they were not in English, but Korean: ``Hi
Glenn, Surely last week`s anomaly of not having English on Thursday was due to
the fact it was "North Korean Human Rights Abuses Awareness Week," (Dec 10-16)
which incorporated an international symposium by the Japanese government (which
was carried via Shiokaze?).

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2598-USB, Dec 17 at 0738, YL with marine weather in English,
Very poor S3, so what is scheduled at this hour? Per
http://www.ccg-gcc.gc.ca/Marine-Communications/RAMN-2015/Part-2-Atlantic-Facilities-Information

it`s: ``MCTS Placentia / VCP - Broadcasts 07:37 St. Lawrence 2598J3E
Radiotelephony --- Technical marine synopsis and forecasts for marine areas
231, 232, 233, 234, 235, 236, 237 and 238.
Weather forecasts for marine area 213.
Ice Edge and Conditions South Coast east of Penguin Island, East Coast to Cape
Freels.
Notices to Fish Harvesters (when available).``

St. Lawrence is on the Burin peninsula, west side of Placentia Bay in the
extreme south end of the island, just east of St Pierre & Miquelon, FRANCE
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1600, Dec 17 at 1531 UT check on groundwave, KUSHing is a steady
S9+20 on the R75 with E/W longwire and Preamp2; noting belatedly as a reference
point upon suspicion that they have quintupled power as permitted; the CP would
have expired in a few weeks. At night they must remain only 70 watts, always
non-direxional.

BTW, I see the new FCC website has added an ``AM Revitalization`` link to the
AM Queries; for KUSH, it bring up a huge list of FM translators by frequency
above 92 MHz: ``*** 309 FM Records within 403.14 km distance [=250 miles] of
35? 59' 13.00" N, 96? 42' 39.00" W ***`` --- supposed to help an AM station try
to pick one out to acquire?? The so-called AM Revitalization Effort is
explained here:
https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/am-revitalization
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1650, Dec 17 at 1324 UT, dominant signal is in Spanish
about Nueva York, so El Paso or Denver? Not hearing much of anything from
gospel music KFSW Sallisaw lately since its conversion from KYHN, so wonder if
they are really running nominal 10/1 kW U1 non-direxional? During Dec should
already be on day power from 1315 UT to 2300 UT (January: 1330 UT to 2330 UT)
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN. 15140, Dec 17 at 1412, RSO is on again today, S7 to S9 with rock song
in English by some currently popular YL; 1416 OM DJ plugging something going to
happen at ``9 pm``; recheck at 1432 there is music rather than news in English
on half-hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 15380, Dec 17 at 1353, Qur`an is S5 with reverb, from BSKSA.
Per Aoki, this 500 kW at 310 degrees USward is about to go off at 1357. No
correlating with sunset here like Yemen, since this one is
all-Qur`an-all-the-time, HQS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Dec 17 at 1436:42, R. Sana`a stops the ME music abruptly
for another Qur`anic Call to Prayer lasting about 2 minutes, quick announcement
in Arabic and more secular music; 1444 an echoey speech, 1446 rousing music;
1458 another speech this time with music under. Very strong signal as usual.
Neat how QCTP correlates nicely with calculated sunset times in Aden per
gaisma.com: 1437 today; by a week from now latening to 1441, so let`s see if
the interruptions track right along with that (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4870, Dec 17 at 1327, carrier cutting off and on and off until
1328*, vs a much weaker carrier slightly on lo side. Suspect the first one is
AIR Kingsway, INDIA, attempting to start the Nepali hour as scheduled; don`t
know if they kept trying and stayed on later; and the lower one RRI Wamena,
always reported off-low (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5931.0-CW, Dec 17 at 1334, S4 not-hand-keyed message with lots of
numbers but not exclusively numbers, continuously past 1338. Never heard any DE
to try to copy an ID. INTRUDER (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6035.02 approx., Dec 17 at 1343, today I have one VP carrier
here, so will not hazard a guess whether it`s Bhutan or Shangri-La. Ron Howard
followed up:

Hi Glenn, I suggest checking BBS/Bhutan again today (Dec 17), as it's Bhutan's
"National Day" and BBS might have an extended schedule and special programs.
Worth checking! Thanks very much to Sei-ichi Hasegawa for the alert about their
"National Day"!

[but later:] ``Hi Glenn, Sorry to say I tuned in 6034.95, on Dec 17 at 1131
through subsequent checking till 1314 and ONLY heard PBS Yunnan, with fairly
decent reception. No hint of BBS. Disappointed! Maybe they had been out
celebrating all day, hi. Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Hi

It's a busy time of year, so here's the chance to relax with some great
radio features over the next few weeks.....

Have you read Mike Vanderkelens '7SD Sunpolishers Club gave cousins a
chance to shine' recollection yet?

You'll find it at www.radioheritage.net/story389.asp and we all hope you
enjoy it! 7SD is in Tasmania, Australia.

We have another recollection in the works right now...about setting up a
a one man band commercial radio station Triple X FM north of Wellington
in New Zealand a few years ago.

We're also working on a fascinating series of All American radio
stations that introduced the music and culture of the USA to audiences
worldwide between 1941 and 1983....the stories of the famous 50,00 watt
Class 1A clear channel radio stations and other powerful American
stations that became familiar to millions of listeners...keep your eye
out for this new regional series illustrated from images held in our
collections. Chicago and the eastern Midwest will be first to appear.

Our financial year started on April 1 and it looks like we've raised all
but $2,458 of our operating costs since then...and if you feel you could
help top up this amount to help us reach our target...we would warmly
welcome your continued support as we close 2015 out.

Details are on our website www.radioheritage.net and we sincerely look
forward to seeing your name appear in our monthly roll of honor, and
perhaps moving you further up the Supporters Roll. We have many options
you can choose from to make your gift at this time of year.

Thank you again for making it possible to bring you more radio memories
this past year. We have more projects lined up than we have hands on
deck for early 2016, so if you want to know more about how you can help
us with your time to kickstart some of the projects, we'd love to hear
from you.

Warm wishes to our many friends around the world who support us in so
many ways....you really do make a difference to keeping the radio
memories safe. Thank you.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays
