5024.93 PERU R. Quillabamba Found R. Rebeldes audio off again
(just OC) at 0950 and waited/hoped for R. Quillabamba to s/on which it
did at 0957:13 w/usual opening routine by alternating M and W in SP
including QTH, ID, calls and freqs, pgming format, etc. 0959 fanfare
and another ID anmnt by M, barnyard SFX starting w/Rooster crowing,
Horse, Dog, and even a Wolf howling, then live studio AM W DJ w/nice IDs
and freqs and website www.radioquillabamba.com over camposino mx. Into
campo mx at 1002. Canned ID jingle between songs. Then the audio of R.
Rebelde came on at 1005:10, however R. Quillabamba was giving it a run
for its money. Had to tune in LSB to avoid the het from Rebelde. A bit
of noise too, possibly from 5015. Would say conditions were poor. Had
it be good, I can?t imagine what Quillabamba would?ve sounded like!! A
video of the reception can be found at https://youtu.be/TPnks1hNxy4

** ARGENTINA. 28463-USB, Oct 30 at 2235, LU8EOT contest contacts with Japan;
deep fading. ``LU8EOT Argentina, flag Argentina, Mariano Colacilli (Mark),
Pasteur 303, Escobar 1625 BA, Argentina``. His antennas are huge bird roosts.

28425-USB, Oct 30 at 2238, LU7HN with contest contacts: ``LU7HN Argentina, flag
Argentina, RENE ERNESTO GIORDA, AV. CERVANTES 3879, SAN FRANCISCO (2400)
CORDOBA 2400, Argentina`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) More 10m ham
logs in this report: BRAZIL, COOK ISLANDS SOUTH, HAWAII, URUGUAY

** BRAZIL. 28355-USB, Oct 30 at 2226, PV2P making quick contest contacts in
English, the SSOB at S9. Very pleased to find 10m open, and it takes a contest
to prove that. A few minutes before, I found 15m open, but nothing on 12m
(presumably off-limits for the contest). QRZ.com shows merely: ``PV2P Brazil,
flag Brazil, CONTEST CALLSIGN PY2DY, SAO PAULO Brazil`` --- so who is PY2DY?
``PY2DY Brazil, flag Brazil, TONY PY2DY, RUA VISC. DE INHOMERIM 1093 AP.162,
SAO PAULO, SP 03120001, Brazil`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COOK ISLANDS SOUTH. 28465.9-USB, Oct 30 at 2232, E51JD, Jim on Rarotonga
which he spells for the ignorant, with leisurely contact, so apparently not
contesting during the contest. QRZ.com shows: ``E51JD South Cook Islands, flag
South Cook Islands, JIM DITCHBURN, P O BOX 491, RAROTONGA, COOK ISLANDS, SOUTH
PACIFIC, VIA NEW ZEALAND, South Cook Islands, QSL: E51JD WITH 2 GREEN STAMP &
SELFADDRESS, SELF SEAL ENVELOPE`` That`s lingo for 2 US$ return postage. And
you`re out of luck if he has to lick the envelope --- good to be cautious,
altho there are devices for tongueless moistening of stamps or envelopes as I
used to employ for RIB. All foreign subscribers got a wide new selexion of
commemoratives on every issue rather than permit postage (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 7405, Oct 30 at 2243, Radio Mart? is VG with no jamming yet.
Strangely enough, this frequency is B-16 registered for one hour only, 22-23.
Jammers do run on it at other hours now vacated.

7365, Oct 31 at 0159, I`m checking whether this Radio Mart? is really on here
for only one hour? Yes, cut off amid silly ballgame at 0200 sharp, and 7435
comes up about 17 seconds later, off, and back on to stay, leaving the jamming
behind on 7365.

7435, Oct 31 at 0606, R. Mart? at S9+30, no jamming caught up with this yet
either. 7435 hours are now 00-01, 02-07, 12-14 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST) See also SOUTH AFRICA: 5980

** HAWAII. 28492-USB, Oct 30 at 2230, KH7CW with contest contacts, from Zone
31, barely working W7EOV/mobile and trying to extract his true zone. Remember
when Hawaii was only KH6? Did they run out of such calls? QRZ.com lookup shows:
The Coconut Wireless Contest Club, 98-1559 Akaaka St, Aiea, Oahu, HI 96701
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** JAPAN [non]. 5960, Oct 31 at 0324, J-pop song at S9, as for B-16, NHK
Japanese via FRANCE to Central America has moved here from 5910, escaping the
collision with COLOMBIA if and when active. HJDH still faces ROMANIA, q.v.
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH. 6170, Oct 31 at 1309, typical Juche music, as VOK has
reoccupied channel for B-16 now that RNZI is gone. Arnulf Piontek`s B-16
schedule (same as A-16, he says) shows 1030-1330 at 28 degrees to Americas,
final hour really KCBS in Korean. Still at 1330-2130 switched to 325 degrees
for Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 9400, Oct 31 around 1330, Denge Kurdistane remains
well-heard with little if any QRM from FEBC. Ivo Ivanov corrects the site
schedule I quoted previously, saying that the switch from PRIDNESTROVYE to
Bulgaria is now at 1500 instead of 1400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 5010.59, Oct 31 at 0247, S7 carrier vs splash from 5015 WRMIBS.
Presumed the constantly varying R. Madagasikara, nominally from *0300 per WRTH.
(Dave Valko in PA had this? on 5010.63 as early as 1930 Oct 26. Wolfgang
B?schel had it on 5010.110-5010.180 at 1633 Oct 9 vs India. And Sept 23 on
5010.796; Sept 14 at 1800: ``5010.550 kHz variable, Malagasy Radio
Madigasikara, narrowed 5010.538 ... x.568 kHz much variable, hopping 10-20
Hertz up and down``. Another possibility if it were stable and much closer to
5010.0 would be the Cuban leapfrog mixing product of 5040 over 5025 another 15
kHz down (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 9700, Oct 31 at 1309, RNZI is VG with news about Palau (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also KOREA NORTH

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Oct 31 at 0305 UT, KZLS Enid-Hennessey-OKC with double
audio, an ad for something and an Ad Council PSA at equal levels. 0306 both
stop at same instant, for single audio on ``Free Talk Live, Hour 3``, host not
apologizing for the error (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA [and non]. 5960, Oct 30 at 0240, poor S8 signal in French, which is
RRI as now scheduled to E North America // listed 7410 (5960 also English at
01-02, // 7325 where also heard).

Don`t you believe another but fanciful HFCC registration on 5960, for R. Kuwait
from Kabd site starting at 0200, since it`s been completely off SW for a few
years --- so why do they keep registering schedules (plus 11 more), a remote
chance of resuming or to save face? Or so a MOI rep can still attend HFCC
conferences on government payroll as a perk? And why does HFCC put up with such
woodenness?

5910, Oct 31 at 0242, RRI in Romanian // 7340, poor S5 mixing with music from
COLOMBIA. RRI at 01-03 is now the nemesis of that, clear afterwards except for
NHK Russian via Lithuania at 0430-0500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH AFRICA. 6155, Oct 31 at 0326, S8-S9 news from Kinshasa, as Channel
Africa in English is now here at 03-04 M-F, 250 kW, 19 degrees from Meyerton,
but sufficient way over here for news direct from Africa. Altho SABC management
has been subject of huge scandals.

Replaces 5980 in the A-season, which suffers from the WWCR leapfrog of 5890
over 5935 another 45 kHz higher, and also from intermittent Cuban jamming long
before R. Mart? would use it, 07-13. ChAf is still // on 3345 plus another hour
of English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 5960, Oct 30 at 2257 past 2300, no signal from VOT on reactivated
B-16 frequency for English to North America. Must be late coming up, not
unusual for the slipshod operators at Emirler. Recheck at 2328, now it`s on at
fair S9 level, really 5960.017, off-frequency plus also being typical.

9650, Oct 30 at 0232, very poor S3 signal is one of few barely propagating on
band, enough to recognize the ``Pregunta del Mes`` theme music from VOT,
Spanish now an hour later and on different B-16 frequencies, the other being
9410 but not checked; should be weaker aimed further south, like ex-9870
compared to ex-9770, at ex-0100+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1849 monitoring: confirmed Sunday October 30 at 2330
on WBCQ, 9329.991v-CUSB, S9+10. Also confirmed UT Monday October 31 from
0302:05 on Area 51 via WBCQ, 5130.05, but just barely audible, and down to only
a JBA carrier at 0323. Also confirmed UT Monday October 31 at 0330 on WRMI
9955, which is also JBA at S1. K-index 3 at 0300, solar flux only 76 for Oct
30. Next:
Mon 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 0030 WRMI 7730 to WNW
Tue 1100 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 2130 WRMI 15770 to NE
Tue 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 9955, Sunday Oct 30 at 2245, I can barely make out Ray
Robinson`s voice reading some radio-history script, so it must be `Wavescan`
under wall-of-noise jamming, which WRMI has brought upon itself by scheduling
Radio Libertad both before and after the 22-23 UT hour, at least on weekdays.
Other English programming at 22-23 is also collaterally damaged (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7570, UT Mon Oct 31 at 0127 on WRMI, African percussion music, i.e.
World Music default, instead of the scheduled special at 01-03 from PCJ Radio
International, From the Archives of Radio Nederland, part 4! The previous
airing at 06 to Europe on 7780 was also a no-show, and I believe with the same
music when I checked circa 0629. Still music at 0200, but at 0231 recheck back
to BS already.

7780, UT Mon Oct 31 at 0605 check, this WRMI is again playing World Music fill
instead of Brother Scare, just like it was doing 24 hours earlier when it was
supposed to be running the PCJ special. Such mixups have happened previous
months, to be made good the following week (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 11580, Monday Oct 31 before and after 1315, WRMI with World Music,
and also at 1429 romantic song in Spanish, before #1 transmitter goes back to
BS at 1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11520, Oct 30 at 2213, WEWN English with caller mentioning that
``Obama is a Muslim``, and talkhost does not correct her! Just another example
of the political sewage spewed out by private US SW stations. Meanwhile, WEWN
Spanish is on 12050. One would have expected English to be on 15610 at this
hour, as it was in A-16. In fact, HFCC B-16 shows 11520 for WEWN only at 00-13
UT! And 15610 at 13-24, so they are totally off-schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1580, Oct 31 at 0259 UT, ``God Save the Queen`` on organ, but
fade-down for KFCS ID as expected from Colorado Springs CO, the usual
dominatrix now, not unwilling to run 10 kW day power at night (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1590, Oct 31 at 0307 UT, sounds like Bollywood music, and peaking
about 40 degrees, almost northeast as befitting WCGO Evanston IL. Still same at
0322 UT and have not heard any announcements. With very heavy QRM and
multi-SAHs, since there are five dozen mostly low-power US stations at night on
1590, but this is slightly dominant. 0333 to a Hallowe`en tune in Bollywood
style with banshee.

It`s time to go back online instead of onradio, so I hasten to bring up the
WCGO webstream, and hear more similar music, but now there is a lot of chatter
between W&M, in Hinglish? Or Engjabi? with tune dedications. For the show at 10
pm to Midnite CT Sundays is: `Sohni Dharti Radio`. No info about it on WCGO`s
own site, but searching separately finds this from a blog stalled since 2012:
http://sohnidhartiradio.blogspot.com/

``Let me introduce myself to you. My name is Sophia Sohail and I am a Radio
Jocky doing shows every sunday night on wcgo 1590 am channel as well as a
writer. I write articles in our community newspaper. When people of my
community listen to my talk shows on the radio, they call me Oprah of our
indopak community``. So Punjabi is more likely (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** URUGUAY. 28435-USB, Oct 30 at 2236, CK2DK with contest contacts. QRZ.com
shows: ``CX2DK Uruguay, flag Uruguay, MARCELO FERNANDO EG?ES MARTORELL, PO Box:
37, P.C: 11000, Montevideo - Uruguay`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search starts a bit late today as I
wake up just before local sunrise at 1254 UT:
702-WSW at 1251
612-WSW at 1252
657-WSW at 1253
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 870, Oct 30 at 2250 UT, country gospel music, ID as ``Top Ten
Radio`` (I think), with WWL nulled but losing out to it by 2252 UT. Prime
suspect looks like 25 kW KPRM Park Rapids, MN. Do they use such a slogan, or
program name? Or maybe KAAN in Bethany MO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1590, Oct 30 at 0307 UT as I am rotating the DX-398 to peak/null
presumed WCGO IL, something appears briefly in the null, ``Your shopping mall
on the radio, KGAD``, or fuzzily similar calls. KDAV Lubbock TX would be
closest, supposedly oldies, and maybe silent? Or KVGB Great Bend KS? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4915.068, Oct 31 at 1305, JBA carrier notable for being
considerably off-frequency unlike many such still on the 60m band shortly after
sunrise, corresponding mostly to India/Tibet/China channels, but NO Asians are
listed on 4915, just two Brazilians, impossible now. Possibly something local,
but have not noticed it before. Or an All India Radio way off-frequency, which
they are quite prone to do (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
