Message-ID: <[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

** CUBA. 6145, Dec 24 at 0720, RHC English is S9-S7 and
undermodulated, while 6060 and all others are off this night.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 25 at 0244, RHC English is S9+25 of dead air while
the only //, 6145 is just barely modulated S9+10.

6000, by 0518 Dec 25, has achieved suptorted modulation; while 6100 is
now on VG as is 6145 with some musical CCI, i.e. this hour from
ROMANIA. And now 6060 & 5040 are still in Spanish. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY [and non]. `Gruss an Bord`, the annual NDR special for
German mariners asea on Xmas eve: Quick chex just after 1900 and 2100
Dec 24 find all frequencies JBA carriers at best into OK. O well, we
are hardly aboard. Others further east or using SDRs had better luck.
One more check at 2238: 6145 Nauen & 6155 Armenia both VP S7-S9 but
less flutter on the latter. Perhaps someone will have recorded for
those wanting to hear it (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** JAPAN [non]. 7410, Dec 25 at 0507, NHK Warudo Radio Japan news in
English, S9+5, but Qur`an audible under. Since NHK is via FRANCE,
could it be a local mixture with Algerian relay? NO, also sked on 7410
before and after 0500 is SAUDI ARABIA`s Qur`aning. I wonder how that
worx in NHK`s South African target (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** KIRITIMATI. 846, Dec 25 at 0450, carrier here stronger than several
of the regular TA ones from Algeria, Spain, UK, and since there are
only low-powers in Europe on 846, as usual I assume this one really be
TP from London where the sun is already setting on one of the Xmas
islands, on Xmas day! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 5009.92 approx., Dec 25 at 0236, weak S7 off-frequency
on the NRD545, no doubt RNM. 5010 WRMI is now off, but earlier at 0102
there was a het upon it measured on the R75 at 5009.961, so I am
wondering if it`s also the RNM carrier overnight in margin of error,
or something else, such as INDIA, or what? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 15155, Tue Dec 24 at 1840, Xmasmx is S9-S7 but JBM,
among few signals on band: it`s AWR English at 1830-1900. Logged this
before noting that two sites are listed: Sri Lanka only on Saturdays
where I guess the SDAs don`t mind working; axually barely in to local
Sunday. The Talatans need to pay more attention to Madulation (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2899-USB, Dec 25 at 0523, ATC asks for stations
standing by for Gander, then YL contacts, mentions 8901 secondary. Per
EiBi this frequency shared with Keflavik and Shannon. See also unID
5598 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 4015-USB, Dec 25 at 0230, nondescript pirate music
at S9+10, 0235 ID over music I think as Radio Free Whatever; 0252
another longer announcement but fading down; next song to be ``Get to
the Point``. Yes, it`s R.F.W. per these many logs:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,61605.0.html
Maybe not tonight, but this area is inhabited by MARS nets, best
avoided by pirates. Many of them are higher up in the 4`s (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6938-USB, Dec 24 at 2325, old news report about a
presidential Xmas party, outro as Columbia Broadcasting System; 2328
ID as ``You are listening to WFDR, New York; merry Christmas`` and
off. Many more reports here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,61596.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7469.99, Dec 25 at 0250, Station YHWH about as
strong as I`ve heard him, S9+10 peaking to 25, with anti-Christmas
sermon, concluding with request that listeners record and distribute
worldwide his two one-hour lexures. 0254 ``one last thought`` about
Yahweh`s plans, 0255 into themesong ``Days of Hard Life``, briefly cut
off and resuming; but I have to rush off to catch WUOT`s repeat of
FONLAC the opening of which I had missed, pro-arte of course.

Greg Hardison replied earlier, ``Here goes a link to the
sometimes-discussed "opening theme" used by YHWH:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru9hkV7MMWo
As Glenn notes, some call it creepy. I would just say it's...well,
IMHO, *bad*. Some alternatives could be suggested here, including
"Guantanamera", Talking Heads' "Life During Wartime" or "Crosseyed and
Painless" (great group! I've seen them live four times); or anything
from Wall Of Voodoo's first album, or from the "Commercial Album" by
The Residents`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 5980, Dec 24 at 1909, music at S4-S5 already as VOT Turkish
to WEu barrels what`s left of 500 kW USward, a sesquihour earlier than
I first noted it yesterday. Now it`s almost as strong as 5950 WRMI
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 7265 // 7280, Dec 25 at 0248 VOT Spanish in music, poor
S6-S7 but slightly weaker on the latter; as to be expected from
azimuths of 290 and 252 degrees, 7280 for further south in Latin
America. Certainly a lack of frequency diversity; they should at least
be on adjacent bands (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5890, Dec 25 at 0519, WWCR with S9+50 of dead air as seems
to happen at least once a week when this transmitter is supposed to be
off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1680, Dec 24 at 1837 UT, 5 minutes after local mean noon,
weak music must be KRJO Monroe LA, which of course dominates at night,
but now via daytime skywave. Translator tail ``My 99.7 FM`` wags this
dog (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5598-USB, Dec 25 at 0500, ATCs wishing Merry Xmas,
mentions Santa Maria, backup 3491. North Atlantic route frequency
shared by NY, Gander, Shannon, and Azores. No mention of S. Claus
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6024.95, Dec 25 at 0245, intriguing JBA carrier, and
still there at 0516 but remeasured to 6024.96. Brings to mind the
inactive? seldom reported Red Patria Nueva, Bolivia, since Bryan
Clark, NZ had it on ``6025`` in August 2018. But in May 2015 both
Thomas Nilsson and Christoph Ratzer agreed upon 6024.97. Nothing on
current listings would likely be so off-frequency --- Tibet or Russia,
which is in DRM anyway as I have previously heard. Could it be back on
the air for Xmas eve, at least? In fact, it`s in WRTH 2020 at
0930-0300 as if not inactive. But at 0110 Nov 10 this year, Claudio
Galaz, Chile remarked with a log of Tibet that there was no
interference from RPN (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6230-AM, Dec 25 at 0510, JBA talk on what could be a
leapfrog mixer from Cuba of RHC 6060 Spanish over 6145 English another
85 kHz beyond --- but I cannot make a match with either on second
receiver. Possibly Iran radio war sometimes here but supposedly not
after 0400, and now rather late to be propagating from Iran or
Uzbekistan; not in USB so not NZ marine weather either (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

In this log I noticed 2 things in the transmitter location part in South
Korea.

First is with the 3915 kHz ... Goyang, South Korea
Maybe it is good to mention that other sources are using another
romanization of this location as Koyang.

The second is with the 4885 kHz ... Taereung site.
Formerly I found only Nowon-gu as the transmitter location in other
publications.

(Nowon is the name of a district of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

The gu at the end of the word is the word "district" in Korean - according
to the Wikipedia.)

When is this location changed from Nowon-gu to Taereung? Was someone located
the transmitter's site more accurately than the previous sources mentioned?
Maybe I missed something.

BANGLA DESH 4750even kHz Noted Bangladesh Betar?s
endless 1000 Hertz TEST TONE signal,
frome {my} tune-in 13.04 til 13.11:50 UT,

followed by subcontinental Flute Pause interval tone signal melody
S=9+30dB in remote SDR at Delhi, at 13.12 UT on Dec 25.

The pause signal audiowise sounds very good, as if the test tone and the
pause signal come directly from TX house nearby.

Without long detours via the public feeder network from the BGD capital
Dhaka BC House ?

Bangladesh - There was a report, that Bangladesh Betar?s 4750 kHz was
returned to the home service. On 24 December 2019, 4750 kHz was heard at
1800 h UTC in Europe with news from the English external service. The
modulation was distorted but in a kind of parallel with the delayed internet
stream at

My chrome and firefox browsers always warn me against accessing the website

advertising in German before I get the original audio stream of Bangladesh
Betar.

There is a big ute pulser on 6340.9 as checked at 2229 UT Dec 25, so a good
idea to distance from it but yours not heard. Is this from Europe or South
America? 73, Glenn Hauser, OK

** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 5045-USB, Dec 25 at 0807 awake this late I
hope to hear at least a trace of Unique Radio, NSW, which is supposed
to be active M/W/F, especially Xmas and Boxing Day Thu; including
WORLD OF RADIO at 0900 --- but cannot; while JBA carriers are
detectable from the other Pacificans, weaker to stronger: < 5055 4KZ <
5020 Solomons < 5040 Vanuatu (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 5980, Dec 25 at 1534, soft songs at S6-S7. Too early for
Turkey before *1700, scheduled this hour as CRI in Japanese so also
USward (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13562 S7 & S9 13838 approx., Dec 25 at 1537, second-order
spurblobs out of 13700-AM RHC at 138 kHz displacements. The lower one
barely far enough from 13565 K6FRC beacon JBA. First-orders about
13631 S9 and 13769 S7-S8, plus/minus 69 kHz. Then I seek and find
traces of further orders: 13908 S4-S5, 13977 S3; and 13493. During
`Sonido Cubano` music which this time is better audible in FM mode on
the closest ones. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11660, Dec 25 at 2250, RHC `Jazz Place` VG S9+30 as I tune by
--- on wrong frequency! English 2200 hour should be on 11880. Well, 8
and 6 can look a lot alike in some fonts; could Xmas Day have brought
an unfamiliar substitute operator in? Excellent modulation too, a
rarity on RHC. Spanish are on usual 11760, 11850. But at 2252, 11660
abruptly cuts off --- better go before gh notices, but too late! I
then retune to 11880 expecting it to come up but never does by 2256,
beyond a couple of split-second attempts to turn it on? Hour almost
over anyway, so let it go. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Dec 26 at 0008, JBA carrier under Cuban jamming, so
seems R. Chaski in another extended broadcast beyond timer cutoff
between 2354 and 2355 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Dec 25 at 2300, REE English with early Xmas music, as
Alison Hughes has previewed, but unusually weak signal mars enjoyment,
S9 fading to S7 instead of solid over 9. Normally VG by this hour, but
11940 and 12030 are propagating even less. Instead I listen for a
while to Voice of Turkey, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 25 at 2301, VOT has managed to come on the air in
English to us, first with news, a lot of it about Turkey`s aid to
Libya; 2307 Review of the Turkish Press; 2309 Review of Foreign Media;
2313 Today in History, Dec 25 events not starting with 6 BCE; 2315
songs past 2330. Recheck at 0008 Dec 26, 5960 is still on, with that
occasional bonus German transmission. Something`s always wrong at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7780, Dec 26 at 0230, RUI via WRMI via UTwente, VG
with their special Xmas show about customs; which religions celebrate
on Dec 25 or Jan 6; not always a strict ortho/catho dichotomy. `This
is a music show equally well-received previous hour. Best audio on
this with AMSynch mode (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U A E. 11655.116, Dec 25 at 1619, JBA carrier way off-frequency. Of
course! It the DHA site during this semihour only with IBRA Radio
Ibrahim in Afar from Sweden (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2013 monitoring: confirmed
Wednesday December 25 from 2200:20 on WBCQ 7490.03v, the reliable
postponed start time, after canned ID, after dead air at 2159.5, after
Bing Crosby Xmasmx instead of `Financial Survival`.

Also confirmed UT Wed Dec 26 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, VG at UTwente, and
unusually good here, S9/+10. Also as usual, Bob Zanotti gets his name
in edgewise just before I start, after the full ID.

WOR 2014 should start SWairing Friday Dec 27 at 0900 on Unique Radio,
NSW, 5045-USB low-power; and on WRMI at 2300 on 9955 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5800, Dec 25 at 2231 and several later chex by 0102 UT Dec
26, NO signal from this WRMI, nor on ex-9425 nor ex-ex-6060, so no
SMTV nor RAE relay after 0100. What happened? Still shown as before on
the skedgrid (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4840, Dec 25 at 0811, S9+20 of dead air from WWCR instead of
TOMBS, but far more than enough, he does continue to modulate with
squeal on 3215. The others: 5935 PMS at S9+40/50; 5890 off as it
should be altho was on with its own dead air back at 0519, also S9+50.
Isn`t it incredible how so many stations are incapable of fulfilling
their most basic funxion --- transmitting with modulation?! (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9980, Dec 25 at 2234, poor S9-S6 gospel huxter in English
but very undermodulated, hard to follow. 2256 recheck slightly better
closing `Chosen Generation` show; 2258 re-introducing another episode
of same with Pastor Gray, but cut off at 2300:23 for WWCR sign-off
``until later today``. 9980 can blast in earlier, but MUF has now
dropped, and such degraded modulation is very unusual for WWCR. #4
transmitter is scheduled on 9980 for only 10 hours a week, M-F 21-22
Financial Survival and 22-23 Chosen Generation, supposedly with Pastor
Gregory Young per pdf skedgrid. This is the same transmitter as on
5890 later with completely dead air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 610, Dec 25 at 1904 UT, dead air from KCSP Kansas City;
still dead past 1907 in case it were just a newshole failure, but if
modulating it would be daffy sports talk, a far cry from the ancient
WDAF. Could it be that everyhuman possibly responsible be away on
holiday? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6340.9, Dec 25 at 2229, big ute pulser as I am seeking
the Radio Piranha International beacon publicized for 6342, by Jorge
Garcia Dec 25 on HCDX:

``Dear friends. This evening, and the coming days until the 2nd of
January 2020 we will be active with our Beacon transmitter on 6342 kHz
CW. from 23 utc (or before) until 08.00 utc. 10 watts of CW power. 73'
from Jorge``

But soon he changed that to 6343, perhaps for the same reason. Not
audible yet here on either. Is it from South America, or Europe?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

[Typo in my previous report subject; should have been Dec 24-25]

This report dispatched at 0250 UT December 26
