** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, Jan 28 at 2046, Radio Tirana relay by WRMI is
back here after change to 11580 yesterday only; S7-S8, ID and
`Cultural Activities`. Altho aimed at Europe, not me, 15770 was not
making it to UTwente a few minutes earlier, while 11580, 4+ MHz lower,
into the night, might have. The 0230 UT Jan 29 repeat JBA on 9395 here
but good via the KF2DA KiwiSDR in NY; see ARGENTINA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** ANTARCTICA. 15476-, Jan 28 at 2050, JBA carrier slightly below
15476, typical of LRA36, so is it on without notice? But when I bring
up Pardinho, Brasil, SDR a few minutes later, no show. Harold Frodge
replies, ``Weak carrier only on the North Coast at 2101.`` --- does
that mean his home location of Midland, Michigan? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, Jan 29 at 0215, RAE ATTW relay in English
via WRMI is as most of the time JBA, unusable, the winter night MUF
just too low, while it would be fine if on 5800 right after Spanish.
So I try some SDRs which might be getting it. No good in Pardinho,
Brasil, nor Bogota, Colombia. I thought it might make the latter off
the back of the 355 degree azimuth; then I try some eastern North
America Kiwis; still no good until I get far enough away to upstate
New York, that of KF2DA, and not too far off the boresight. Program is
about Daniel Barenboim who is appearing in Bs. As. Wrapping up but not
quite finished at 0230 when chopped off for switch to Radio Tirana IS
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 3365, Jan 28 at 2355, JBA carrier, R. Cultura de Araraquara
SP, which has been reported active lately. Then I see this on the WOR
iog from Dan Robinson:
``Being heard NOW 2330 via several Northeast U.S. SDRs, and
http://186.193.231.135:8073/
at S.B. Campo Brazil where the level is huge, as it is via Pardinho``
Too hard direct, too easy via Pardinho, hi. Listened for part of
semihour 0000+ without hearing an ID, news/talk, music, but off by
0032 UT.
Time is running out to DX this rarely active station: Karel Honz?k,
Czechia had reported it as unID January 26/27, 2345-0005. I listened
to his clip and intonation certainly sounded Brazilian. Rudolf Grimm,
Brasil, replied on HCDX:
``Hi Karel, Radio Cultura 3365 kHz uses the 90 m signals on this time
each year, when the city's soccer team (FC Ferroviaria) plays the
annual state soccer championship. A strong signal was heard here in
S?o Bernardo (close to S?o Paulo) yesterday. The 90 m signal is kept
in the air only during the football match. The signal is then
deactivated. Also, the announcer informed on the air that Radio
Cultura de Araraquara at 790 kHz will be migrating to FM on January 30
(in a few days!). It is understood that the 90 meter signal will
probably also be able to close permanently on the same day. 73, Rudolf
Grimm, S?o Bernardo SP``
Then, Alan Pennington, UK, told the WOR iog: ``But AFE have another
match (at home) tomorrow, Wednesday 29th January (versus Sao Paulo),
kick-off at 2130 local time (2330 UTC)
http://ferroviariasa.com.br/
So will 3365 kHz be on air for that match also? But maybe on 90 metres
for the last time? 73, Alan Pennington, Caversham, UK``
That would be 0030 UT Thursday in the UT-3 local timezone in SP (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15140, Jan 28 at 1554, RHC is undermodulated/distorted as it
has been lately here, whilst weaker // 15230 modulation is OK.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11880 // 15370 // 15140, Jan 28 at 2113, in decreasing order
of signal quality, RHC in Brazuguese on all, rather than three
different languages, Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11850, Jan 28 at 2352, RHC is S9+30 but suptorted, just
barely modulated. Wiggle that patchcord; something`s always wrong at
RHC. 11950 has total dead air of S9+20, but it`s just warming up for
the 0000 `Mesa Redonda` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. 27184.9-AM, Jan 28 at 2117, S9+10 of open carrier as some
local yocal is blocking this prime CB frequency; I had noticed same
yesterday on caradio, so deliberately checked it today (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. From 1800 UT Tue Jan 28, the Impeachment Trial of acting
president Drumpf resumes in the US Senate; today three OKC network
affiliates plug into it, KFOR NBC, KOCO ABC and KOKH Fox --- but KWTV
resumes local noon news --- and winter weather, rather than CBS. Not
sure if this was CBS` decision or not, but the Republicans stopped
today after only a couple hours, so everything except cable TV back to
normal (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 28 at 2344, VOT absent again from English to us,
which should not have concluded quite yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 7190-LSB, Jan 28 at 0708, W6WWV on the Triple-H Net, asking
for check-ins; not many despite nationwide propagation, and turns it
over to other NCSs. Many calls heard, but they never explain what it`s
all about, in the middle of the night, so why should anyone want to
check in, stateside or abroad? Mentions WAS, maybe a clue. I search
out its website, which tells all about it:
http://www.hhhnet.net/
Yes, it issues WAS certificates; but don`t other clubs too?
The member roster has 975 entries, including more and more Silent
Keys, whose numbers have not been reassigned, but whose names and
calls have been deleted, non memoriam! In chrono order, fewer and
fewer new ones are added in last few years, two in `19, one in `18,
three in `17, six in `16...
Guess what: the only call I noted, W6WWV, is not on the roster. ARRL
lookup: BATTERMAN, DENNIS E, W6WWV, Dundee, OR 97115. Is he honouring
timesignals? Maybe he`s still working on WAS. And where does the HHH
name come from? Not explained but looking thru the roster I find at
least one -HHH, so is that the cause or effect? ``741. KA9HHH E Bob
Schiff IL Chicago 08/18/00`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 11720, Tue Jan 28 at 2103, VG signal S8+20/30 from VOA
Grimesland NC, during news, but dumps off air briefly at 2104, and
again longer, not back on until 2106 when rock music already playing;
2110 only program name is ``VOA One, with DJ Larry London``, outro of
Beyonc? and free-plugging her clotheslines.
Yesterday Monday Jan 27 I also checked during the one hour that VOA
``Greenville`` puts such a super signal back into deep North America,
when the show was `Soul Lounge`. So now I want to look up the
subtitles at least of this VOA hour each day of week. Tnx to the WOR
Hitlist, we go right to:
https://www.voanews.com/listen/schedule/voa-africa
date by date, but fails to show anything at 2100+ UT after News on the
hour! Not `Soul Lounge` on Monday, not `Music Time in Africa` on
Friday, both of which we know exist by our own ears.
No Soul Lounge to be found here either:
https://www.voanews.com/listen/programs
but searching on name, get some archived, ``latest episodes`` of
2016-2015-2014 as part of `Music Alley with Shawna Renee`. Bottom line
is that VOA scheduling is a mess; they don`t even know what they are
airing. BTW, today was not the first time the 11720 transmitter
crapped out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15770, Jan 28 at 1551, WRMI is back on here with SMTV, VP
signal, so 11580 yesterday was a one-day test, or error? No info on
website about that. At 2025 I check UTwente, finding that 15770 is not
making it there at all; 7780 is sufficient, and 11580 might be if it
were on. See also ALBANIA [non]; ARGENTINA [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

6035even CHINA nothing at 11.47 UT from Thimphu Bhutan on that channel.
Nothing heard in Bangalore and Delhi India remote SDR rxs sites.
But powerhouse S=9+25dB or -55dBm Chinese program signal
noted at Hanoi VTN and Jakarte INS remote SDR rxs
from Kunming CHN even in ! 11-12 ! UT hour
(fault item in HFCC / Aoki database, requested 1200-1700 UT only there.)
And in between real Mandarin Chinese announcement,
Hanoi Vietnam signal is like armchair power.
Though S=9+10dB in remote Hiroshima Japan SDR unit too.
PNG ? 3325even kHz, likely NBC Bougainville at 11.35 UT on Jan 29
S=5 fair signal in Japan.
OTHR broadband powerhouse signal on 4940 - 5065 kHz
all over Japan monitoring.
AUSTRALIA? Noted string signal midst on radar on 5055.005 kHz
so - I guess -
Radio 4KZ is on air at 11.42 UT on Jan 29.

XEXX-AM 1420 Tijuana was off the air Tuesday January 28th at least part of
the night. I caught them back on the air Wednesday January 29th.. a 6am
mountain check resulted in nothing, but they came back around 7:45am
mountain.
When I heard them they played a dance party rave type tune followed by a
sad, slow piano type tune, followed by some commercials or PSA's then more
music.
XEXX had running the TUDN Sports programming from Univision... I'm pretty
certain I heard that a week or two ago
At 8:45am mountain, a check of an Escondido web SDR reveals some kind of
local talk programming.. they mentioned the "telefono in cabina" number and
talked about Baja California. It also appears to be seperate programming
from XESDD..
1030/1700/620/1420 in the Tijuana area are all owned and/or controlled by
Baja California Governor Jamie Bonilla and often share/simulcast
programming or air the wrong feeds

** BRAZIL. 3365, Jan 30 circa 0020, JBA carrier direct from R. Cultura
de Araraquara, but from 0030 VG local-like signal via Pardinho SDR
also in SP state, with hyper-enthusiastic coverage of silly ballgame,
or perhaps preliminaries; suspected to be its final day on air if not
tomorrow. Many others are monitoring this, but the occasion is not
enough to keep me listening to such nonsense. I have yet to hear any
ID even in passing, but no doubt this is it, based on info in my
previous report. How about something *cultural*? Website as in WRTH
http://www.radiocultura.net is only one static page, no info on
program schedule, but does refer (not link) to its disgraced FB, which
is very active and nothing about programming found there either, but
nothing to indicate anything cultural (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [and non]. 530, Jan 29 at 0720, Spanish talk // 5025, so Radio
Rebelde which could be either far Guant?namo 1 kW, or closer Isla
Juventud of unknown power; mixing with EZL music from Radio
Enciclopedia, near Habana which is normally the only Cuban heard; and
at times with third station no doubt CHLO Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** KOREA SOUTH. 1566, Jan 29 at 1335, TP carrier from NW, strongest vs
the low-banders which are just about gone by now; LSR 1335 UT. I keep
on it and at 1344:32 the carrier drops off, but then I hear it again
more weakly. That would be the FEBC Jeju Island antenna change from
Japanese to Chinese. Before the switch, 1566 had some long slow fades,
maybe SAH of less than 1 Hz from another station rather than
propagational? But there are nothing else but six China stations of 10
or 1 kW listed. I assume it`s not considered worth jamming (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 29 at 2357, VOT IS has stayed on after English
and now the German IDs start, presumably prior to axual German bonus
broadcast but unrechecked until 0050 Jan 30 when it`s off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 426-MCW kHz, Jan 29 at 0725 UT, ND beacon IZS, which is 25
watts from Montezuma, Georgia; mixing with something else at first
hard to unravel. The only others are in AL and MS. Where`s that? Twin
city with Oglethorpe, SW of Macon -- I was not aware of them during my
brief stint at Warner Robins AFB.
428-MCW kHz, Jan 29 at 0724 UT, ND beacon POH, which is 25 watts from
Pocahontas, Iowa; the only 428 at dxinfocentre.com and the highest in
the 400s from conterminous US, exceeded only in CONUS by an Alaskan on
429. Where`s that? NW of Fort Dodge (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January
29 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, poor.
Also confirmed Wed Jan 29 at 2200:23 on WBCQ 7490.26, fair S9/+10.
Also confirmed UT Thu Jan 30 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, JBA.
Next WOR #2019 should be ready by early UT January 31 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15770, Jan 29 at 1900, this reactivated WRMI is only JBA via
UTwente SDR; direct here around 2020, much better with Radio Prague
relay in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 1090, Jan 29 at 0703:20, KAAY, Little Rock AR ID and then
dead air; 0705.0 JIP tail end of SRN news, and then 0705:30 into
gospel music. Something`s always wrong at ToH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
