Wolfie, very nice report. Once I detected Kossuth R. on 540 kHz via the Thessaloniki SDR and I became surprised to hear back the station in good quality at around 16-18 UT on a winter day in the past.
I'd like to take 1-2 notes/corrections to your log. 1251even kHz: Radio Szombathely does not exist anymore. It was the Hungarian state-owned radio's regional studio in Szombathely but these regional programmes were destroyed by the ultranationalist-xenophobic, backward-looking FIDESZ-KDNP coalition which took power in 2010 with the authorisation of Hungarian voters. These regional programmes were transformed into a centrally managed Dankó Rádió which broadcasts operett (but not opera which are on Bartók R. only on FM), Hungarian folk-type songs but not folk (it is called Magyar Nóta), some folk music, then world music. Dankó Rádió is managed from Budapest from the studios of the Hungarian state-owned radio. Regional Studio's staff were either transferred to Budapest into the staff of Kossuth R. or were sacked. Some of them became fed up and went to another organisation voluntarily. Dankó R. did not employ them. Dankó R. have its own small staff. It has its own news reader but the news are coming from the central news desk of the state-owned radio. Now, 1116, 1251 kHz transmits Dankó R. The transmitter sites remained the same. 1116 Miskolc, and Mosonmagyaróvár; 1251 Nyíregyháza and Szombathely. Dankó R. also transmits on FM too. If you compare Dankó R. with another station, the right comparison is with the Antena Satelor folk music channel in Romania. Dankó's genre are more diverse but its style is oldish, it is for old people and not for the young, it is like to be in a museum. But Antena Satelor is very dinamic: the presenters are fresh, vivid, dinamically presenting themselves, it is for Romanian folk-music loving youngsters too. If you ask what is the problem, the main problem is with the folk-music concept here in Hungary. Folk music singers are required to sing like an old lady. The most painful part is when you suffer to hear how an 15 year-old girl is forced to sing like a 70 year-old lady. Really painful to listen, it is like a terror act. In neighbouring countries (Romania, Serbia, etc.) the folk music-singing concept is different. They say that "it shall come from your heart": an 15 year-old girl shall sing like an 15 year-old one but not as a 70 year-old woman with 70 year-long life experience. Once the general public had to see the differences: at least those who visited a travel expo organized together with the Africa Expo here in Budapest. On the main stage there were a Hungarian folk music group singing. They - ofcourse - received clappings after their programme. But soon after them the Romanian folk group came. The girls were fashionably dressed in traditional Romanian folk costume, they danced very well, oh, certainly, they were beautiful, they were those whom you put onto the window. Their country's exhibition stand were also big, smartly established, well-designed, better than ours. It was not a mistake why they received a warm ovation from us and bigger clapping after their programme. I know because I was present as a first-time visitor. Here in Hungary in the evenings it is possible to receive 2 romanian stations on 1530 kHz and I never tried to separate them on decimal frequency. So: ROU - SRR Radio România Actualităţi, Rădăuţi (14) - 24h in Romanian. Source: the former EMWG list from 2016. It is old but if the frequency designation in Romania haven't changed, these above-written stations are the most likely for what you heard. Maybe the transmitting power were changed. 863.998: I think it was: EGY - ERTU Quran al-Karim, Santah (500). This freq goes better into Europe than the 819 kHz Batrah transmitter of ERTU general programme. I can hear this in late nights here in my apartment here in Budapest. 1503.001 EGY ERTU Koran El Arish in Arabic: I'd like to note that this is the ERTU's El Arish regional studios. It not only broadcast koranic programmes, only some segments are Koranic. Why worth-mentioning El Arish? It is the center of the North Sinai province of Egypt and a hot-bed of attacks between security forces and North Sinai terrorists. El Arish cannot be heard in Hungary, I heard it on an Israeli SDR in 2015 for the first time in my life.
