#220 RECEPTION IN PIEDADE SP, BRAZIL
**********************************
March 02, 2020 (Time in UTC)
Receiver: Sony ICF2001D
Antenna: RGP3 Ferrite Loop Antenna
**********************************
ARGENTINA: 1100 kHz Radio Estilo (t), Spanish, 02/03 0118. Romantic songs in
Spanish language. 23542 (RG). Usuallya best reception in Santa Catarina
state, by Marcio Molossi. In Piedade, just the presence, adjusting the loop
antenna.
BRAZIL: 1340 kHz CBN, Porto Alegre RS, Portuguese, 02/03 0132. News
bulletin. Id: ?CBN?. Traditional jingle music from CBN. 34543 (RG).
BRAZIL: 1480 kHz Radio Boituva AM, Boituva SP, Portuguese, 02/03 1102. ?Voc?
est? ouvindo Boituva AM, 1480 kHz...?. Brazilian song. 35443 (RG).
CHILE: 1100 kHz BBN, Vi?a del Mar, Spanish, 02/03 0102. BBN program in
Spanish language. 25552 (RG). Listening from BBN VdM registered almost daily
by several DXers in Brazil, always at the same time, after 0000 UTC.
COLOMBIA: 1100 kHz BBN, Bogot? (t), Spanish, 02/03 0106. BBN program in
Spanish language. 25542 (RG). BBN Organization uses 1100 kHz for 2
transmissions in South America: Vi?a del Ma, and Bogot?. On +/- 270? Az, a
good reception from Chile, but turning the loop antenna slightly to the
north, there is the disappearance of the Vi?a del Mar signal, but following
slightly the turn to the northwest of South America, we find a new BBN
signal (+/- 320 to 330? Az), this time, in lower conditions than the that
what comes from Vi?a del Mar. The observed location (Northwest) must be from
Colombia. Therefore, I assume it was BBN Bogot?, but due to not local
identification of the station (BBN does not inform a local id in any of
their transmissions), I remain this second BBN station as a ?tentative?
situation.
PARAGUAY: 860 kHz La Voz de la Cordillera, Caaguazu, Spanish, 02/03 0050.
Romantic songs, ?Mi manera (My way)?, ?Something Stupid?. Id ?La Voz de la
Cordillera, 860 kHz AM, Caaguazu, Paraguay...?. 35553 (RG).
URUGUAY: 1340 kHz La Voz de Melo, Melo, Spanish, 02/03 0207. Communication
by male and female voices. Mention to Uruguay. 34433 (RG).

REMARK: After the closure of Radio Globo S?o Paulo at 1100 kHz, this
frequency has become a very interesting focus for receiving stations from a
greater distance, as we have observed. On March 5, a more precise filtering
of the signals was performed on my KiwiSDR, and at a certain moment, there
were 10 (ten!) different carriers between 1099.85 and 1100.35 kHz, varying
the intensity on each transmission. A very rich research focus.

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.97-USB, March 6 at 1820-1835+, LRA36 with songs,
poor signal via another Brazilian KiwiSDR since Pardinho is already
maxed out at 8 users. Hello to Dan Robinson, who has done the same.
Tnx to tip from Manuel M?ndez, Spain, that it`s already on prior to
publicized special broadcast at 1900 about summer activities around
the bases (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 399 kHz, March 6 at 0650 UT, NDB dash and ZHD, which is 25
watts from Dryden - Barclay, Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 2749-USB, March 6 at 0727, TWO CCG stations with marine
weather in French QRMiing each other at about equal levels, same
roboyl voice, but apparently different content, not merely offset
echoing. As I have noted a number of times before, none scheduled
before 0737 or 0740; per http://dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm the possible
bilingual stations on 2749 are: VCO Sydney NS at 0740; VCN Escoumins,
Qu?bec from 0847; and VAR-9 Yarmouth (Halifax) NS from 1040; and no
languages specified from VCS-21 Halifax at 0810. Canadian CG needs to
get its acts together, or rather separated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, March 6 at 0720, RHC is still on with dead air except
for humsqueal. 6060 is DA at S9+10; 6145 and 6100 are modulating
English; 6000 is off. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Once hit by
DST, I hope not to be awake and monitoring after 0630 UT (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15700, March 6 at 1502, CRI Plus relay is S9+30 but suptorted
also with tone. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

15230, March 6 at 1503, RHC is unusually off, while 15140 remains
distorted at S9+20. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

13740, March 6 at 1508, this RHC is off, while 13700 remains at S9+30
in Sonido Cubano music, no spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

11700, March 6 at 1511, RHC is ON this frequency // 11760, but 11700
is not supposed to be on at all in the mornings, only 2300-0600!
Suspect this is the transmitter missing now from 15230. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ETHIOPIA [non]. 11990, March 6 at 1507 new IRRS broadcast in Oromo,
S4-S6; recheck via UTwente at 1557 more lively talk, chopped off at
1559* with no ID. Meanwhile, I asked IRRS what this is, and quickly
received a Coronavirius e-QSL along with ``OMN -- Oromia Media
Network``.

>From that I quickly search out all this info but nothing about old or
new SW broadcasts; note the date on first one, 6 years ago:

Surprisingly, WRTH 2020 COTB page 511 lists only one to Ethiopia, a
different one, Voice of Oromo Liberation, based in Berlin, via Nauen.
IRRS never confirms transmitter sites, so I don`t even ask, but Ivo
Ivanov says 11990 is via his own Bulgaria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 400 kHz, March 6 at 0649 UT, ND beacon AHW vs storm crashes,
of which there are none closer per Blitzortung than off the coast of
FL north of Bahamas. AHW is 25 watts from Wahoo, Nebraska (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, March 6 at 0531, WTWW-2 is now on with rock music,
plus and minus the very weak parasitic spurs on 5072.1 and 5097.9;
this had been off at earlier check 0335. Lebanon electrical fluid may
still be sporadic post-tornado. At 0722 I check again, when 5085 is
still VG, and 5830 is JBA, presumably WTWW-1 as neighbor 5935 WWCR is
also JBA. The MUF must be sharp between 5 and 6 MHz. Usually it`s
above 6 MHz allowing both to inboom when on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1539.96 approx., March 6 at 0707 UT, tell-tale het against
1540 KXEL et al., prime suspect being KGBC Galveston TX, which
sometimes but not always, is askew. Careful LSB tuning manages to pull
it apart as signal increases, after 0714 music, ``Ain`t That a
Shame``, 0715 full ID for KGBC also FM 101.7, `Baytown, Houston, we`ve
got you covered`` --- also Enid.

As of last August, in NRC AM Log, KGBC format was Tejano --- not any
more; U4 2500/250 watts, address in Houston, and 101.7 is K269GS, no
mention of offfrequenciness from 1540.00. WTFDA DB shows 101.7 in
Houston proper, still Spanish/Tejano. Radio-locator.com also still
claims KGBC is ``Tejano``. Ain`t that a shame? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Radio Romania International / News / Defective broadcaster
Defective transmitter
2020-02-25 12:00:00
Romania International

The transmitter BD 300-1, from ?ig?ne?ti, which broadcasts RRI programs, is
defective.
     transceiver [sic] fault
The transmitter BD 300-1, from ?ig?ne?ti, which broadcasts Radio Romania
International programs, is defective, announced Radiocom, the transmission
service provider. Work is underway to restart the BD 300-3 transmitter
?ig?ne?ti. In the meantime you can listen to RRI broadcasts on the second
shortwave frequency indicated on the RRI website for each broadcast.

Frequencies related to RRI broadcasts in Romanian language from 01.00 and
02.00 UTC to the United States, as well as the Sunday broadcast for Romanian
sailors from around the world, from 08.00 UTC to the Near East, 09.00 UTC to
the Arabian Peninsula, 10.00 UTC to the Maghreb.

The following programs in English are affected: 04.00 UTC to the USA, 06.30
UTC to Australia, 12.00 UTC to Africa, 18.00 UTC to the United Kingdom,
21.30 UTC to the USA, 23.00 UTC to Japan.

Frequencies related to French broadcasts from 06.00 UTC to Africa, 11.00 UTC
to Maghreb, 17.00 UTC to Western Europe are affected.

The following programs in German are affected: 15.00 UTC and 19.00 UTC
towards Western Europe. A German broadcast transmitted in DRM, at 07.00 UTC,
at 6175 kHz, was taken over by the transmitter BD 100-1, from S?ftica site
instead.

The Spanish broadcasts are affected from 20.00 UTC to Spain, 22.00 UTC,
00.00 UTC and 03.00 UTC, all to Argentina.

The malfunction affects RRI programs in Russian from 05.30 UTC and 16.00 UTC
to European Russia, respectively 14.00 UTC to the Russian Far East.

Chinese RRI programs from 05.00 UTC and 13.30 UTC are affected.

The RRI broadcasts in the Arabic language from 07.30 UTC and 16.30 UTC to
Mashrek are affected, respectively the broadcast from 13.00 UTC to Maghreb.

Radiocom apologizes for this unpleasant situation and stated that it is
trying to remedy the fault at BD 300-1 as soon as possible and to operate in
the meantime with the BD 300-3 backup transmitter.

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.97-USB, continuing previous March 6 LRA36 log: as
expected not a trace of it direct to here just before 1900. After 1900
I`m listening via Iceland ``VHF`` KiwiSDR, where Dan Robinson says
it`s coming in well (a lot further than Brasil, but all over-water
path). All talk but mostly unreadable, then 1910 music past 1913. By
1954 JBA there; 1957 I`m back on Pardinho SP SDR which gets it best
of all. Talking about the ``campa?a ant?rtica``; 2014 contacting
someone at another base, Marambio until 2016, contact info, ID with
frequency 15476, some music, YL acknowledging reports and saludos;
brief fade-down; discussion of ``campa?a de verano desde el 6 de
noviembre``. 2036 mentions a base uruguaya; 2037 current weather
including temp 5 grados = heatwave; 2050 music, song about Antarctica
including lyrix, hielo, cielo (ice and sky, which don`t rhyme as well
in English); some other songs and off before 2100.

Roger provides a 48+ minute segment starting ~1900z from the somewhat
bumpy webstream .... including weather conditions, IDs:
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/vkce2ndwozd663g/2020-03-06-1900z-LRA36-cut-.mp3?dl=1

And here`s that nice song he also found:

** ARGENTINA [non]. 5800, UT Sat March 7 at 0132, RAE via WRMI with
`Actualidad DX.com.ar`, playing a clip of Radio Nyawa Sarawak. Too bad
this DX program is simultaneous with WOR X 3, not to mention AAAWWW
but the latter will be an hour earlier from next week due to the
imposition of DST and WBCQ acquiescence (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15370.0, March 6 at 2309, RHC remains on-frequency, but S9+20
of distortion and hum on modulation. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 5080-USB, March 7 at 0118, soul, jazz music, no
announcements, stops at 0137 tho I tuned away a bit at 0128 to check
WOR frequencies. Fair with bubbling probably from local device. In the
absence of WTWW 5085! Mix Radio International per lots of reports
here, as early as 2136 March 6:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,63822.0.html
Could have stayed on later as no-show from WTWW by 0300 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 6130 // 7325, March 7 at 0116, another check of RRI finds
English on these frequencies, no Romanian or anything on 5910 & 7410.
Apparently two transmitters are out of order (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, March 6 at 2318, as some guy on WRMI mentions
that Spain and Turkey are the only overseas stations still in English
to us at this hour, I check and not today: another absence of VOT
where something`s always erroneous at Emirler. 2339 recheck, I do make
out a JBA carrier on 5960-minus, i.e. XJPBS. But English from Spain
before 2330 succeeds on 9690 vs WOR on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 11720, Friday March 6 at 2115, VOA `Music Time in Africa`
has hyper Heather talking about some award show coming up on Saturday
November 30! So this is a rerun. I wonder how often that happen less
obviously (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2024 monitoring: confirmed first
American SWBC, Friday March 6 at 2300 on WRMI 9955: this time very
light pulse jamming soon abates, and rest of show is in the clear,
100% readable to 2329.

Also confirmed UT Sat Mar 7 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5010 fair with trace of
LAH, Madagascar or India? As usual, Spanish Bibling is chopped off at
0129:30 for ID. Also on 5850, VG S9+30; and 7780, VP in HNL here, but
HjB in Germany confirms it at 0157 with SINPO 35443. Next:

0900 UT Saturday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB or 3210
1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 [not last week; please check!] to NE

** U S A. 9955, March 6 at 2158, VORW ending on WRMI; John seems to be
saying all his times on WRMI including 5850 will be one hour later
with DST --- I don`t think so. If there were any retime they would be
one hour earlier, but unless there has been a drastic policy change,
most WRMIs stay on UT, except for System B on 9955; and System G which
is mainly 9395 but partly involving 7780, 5950 if we believe the
outdated grid. That sked in EST/EDT makes it hard to mesh with other
Systems employing those frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490.2v, UT Sat March 7 at 0100, WBCQ with some other music
before WTO, and of course again ``Angela & Allan Weiner WorldWide``
without either of them, instead Pirate Joe subbing once again. Says he
had only 25 minutes` notice to prepare, and that was while he was on
air with WHVW classical music show; sorry, too much else is going on
this hour to devote time to monitoring all his random rambling in case
there be any nugget of info about what`s really going on at `BCQ. 5130
still not on air at 0100, but it is on when next checked at 0152 with
PJ here too //. John Carver`s version:

``Tonight's show started on time on 7490. No signal on 5130. Pirate
Joe is hosting again this evening. Stated that he only had thirty
minutes notice that he was hosting and he was in the middle of a
program on his station when he found out so had nothing planned for
this show. Rambled on for a bit and then played some music. Spent a
fair amount of time talking about the twenties. He tried several times
to compare the twenties to the sixties but never completed the
thought. Then he talked about prohibition, then into the Pony Express,
and into traveling cross country in different time periods, and then
into world travel in several different centuries.

A check at 0136 revealed still no program on 5130, but during a check
at 0158 the program was on 5130 so it came up sometime in the last
twenty-two minutes. Show was off the air at 0200. John, Mid-North
Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
