No wonder I can hear the local airport Beacon on it’s 3rd harmonic! VTR, On 350khz is 1000 watts and it’s maybe 1/4 mile away! Most beacons are a 25/50 watts, maybe a few hundred.
I can hear it on 1050khz! Here’s a clip of CJNB 1050 North Battleford, Saskatchewan 2000 or so miles away on my CC Skywave portable... and you’ll hear the beeep beeep beep of the beacon under the music. I’m told the Beacon is so powerful because of the flight path international flights going to/from Anchorage 230 miles to our Southeast travel through our immediate region in McGrath.
