GRAVEYARD DX TEST NEXT WEEKEND
Many DX tests are months in the making and this one was no exception. CPC
Member Paul Walker first reached out to station owner Steve Rubin in August of
2020 to see about the possibility DX tests for stations that Rubin owns.
While Steve Rubin didn?t have any maintenance opportunities for stations that
he owned at the time, he promised to reach out if something developed. Rubin
was as good as his word. KCUP 1230 will be changing formats in February and
will be performing some maintenance on the transmitter just prior to the
switch.
KCUP will test on Sunday morning, January 31, 2021 starting at midnight PST
(0800 UTC) until 0100 AM PST (0900 UTC). Test material will include Morse Code,
sweep tones, sound effects, etc.
The station will be transmitting at 1,000 watts into their omnidirectional
pattern. On crowded graveyard frequencies, it is difficult for stations to be
heard at great distances usually?but past tests have proven that the additional
of special test material can work wonders.
This provides a solid opportunity for West Coast receptions and also DX?ers in
NZ and Australia. Those of us back East will need more than a little luck?but
as many of us need Oregon and new stations on 1230, let?s give it a try.
Reception reports will be handled by the Courtesy Program Committee (CPC) at
the request of KCUP. Reception reports should be e-mailed to:
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
We strongly prefer that you include MP3 sound file recordings of the best 2-3
minutes of your reception. If you cannot record the DX, then detailed written
reports can also be accepted. If your report is confirmed, you will receive a
custom designed QSL card as a PDF file attachment. It is suitable for printing.
We will no longer accept reports via USPS mail.
Thanks to Steve ________ and the owners of KCUP for this rare DX test from
Oregon. Thanks to Paul Walker for his months of work in setting up this test.
Also to Joe Miller, KJ8O for designing the special QSL card and handling the
verification. We?re blessed to have dedicated volunteers on the CPC?but always
looking for more help. Please consider volunteering.

800 kHz: Unid Brazilian station with Brazilian regional songs. A fourth station
heard on the same frequency for 1 or 2 minutes, just the songs. 22522 (RG).
REMARK: As published in WRTH, there are only 4 Brazilian stations at 800 kHz.
It was possible to hear this fourth station, in addition to the other 3
informed above. This 4th station presented a sequence of Brazilian regional
music. I presume (only presume!!! ) that it may have been Radio Antares,
Teresina PI. It had no similar characteristic to the listened stations of
Brasilia, Santa Maria and Rio de Janeiro (the loop rotation allowed this
immediate verification). And as I said, there are only 4 Brazilian stations at
800 kHz today. In other frequencies researched over time we have found some
stations of the north / northeast Of Brazil occasionally: 1380 kHz Radio
Continental, Recife, and has been constantly the same situation with 860 kHz
Radio City, Fortaleza.
1290 kHz: Radio Brasil Sul, Londrina PR, 24/01 0244. Time checking by YL,

CHILE - CHL,
1100 kHz: BBN Radio, via Vi?a del Mar, Spanish, 24/01 0105. Christian songs,
male voice communication, 'BBN'. 25432 (RG).
REMARK: Rx w/270? Az. Turning slightly from 270? Azimuth to a 'north' position,
there is an angular range with no station, zero signal. Reaching 330? / 340?
Azimuth, we find a new clear transmission from BBN Radio, but with a lower
signal than Vi?a del Mar. Antenna pointed at Colombia, there is BBN Radio from
Bogot?, at the same frequency as the Chilean broadcast. It is no longer to the
first time we have been able with this simple technique using the Quantum Loop
V2.0 Antenna, with a same result. Gustavo Guaita (Antonio Carlos SC), and Denis
Zoqbi (S?o Paulo) had enjoyed the same experience / result.
COLOMBIA - CLM,
1100 kHz: BBN Radio, via Bogot? (pres.), Spanish, 24/01 0112. Christian songs,
male voice communication. The same program as the same station from Chile (see
above, please).
REMARK: Turning slightly the direction of the 330? / 340? Azimuth antenna
westward, no other station found up to 270? Az, a full silence track. In this
second angle, back to BBN Radio, Vi?a del Mar, at 1100 kHz, with a slightly
higher signal strength than found in the Colombian transmission.

Apologies to all concerned. Trying to get this notification out quickly and
have not taken the proper care with proof reading. Hopefully this one is
correct in all aspects.
GRAVEYARD DX TEST THIS WEEKEND
Many DX tests are months in the making and this one was no exception. CPC

Hopefully this will provide a solid opportunity for West Coast receptions and
also DX?ers in NZ and Australia. Those of us back East will need more than a
little luck. This is a one-hour duration test. Knowing how openings on
graveyard frequencies can be very brief, we highly recommend recording the
entire hour and reviewing multiple times. You may be amazed.

Subject: [HCDX] KGEN 1370 Tulare, CA Logged In Alaska!

I forgot to share this one when it happened almost 2 weeks ago. I started
hearing spanish begin to bubble up on 1370, so I fine tuned my 5" DeBock
FSL loop and hit record and boy, did I get lucky!
About 8 seconds into the recording, you hear a simple "La Ley" between
songs. I recognized that slogan and that voice.. it's KGEN 1370 Tulare, CA.
I have previously heard KGEN's 72 watt night power from Laramie, WY. I'd
also logged KGEN's simulcast sister station, KGEN 94.5 Hanford, CA a 6KW
Class A Equivalent in Wyoming
I asked KGEN Engineer Tom Driggers to confirm KGEN was operating with it's
licensed 72 Watts at night, and he confirmed that the remote control was
powering down KGEN's transmitter properly. My KGEN Reception occurred on
Tuesday January 12th at 745pm AK Time (1hr behind pacific).
Here's my KGEN audio:

Several minutes later, I had "La Caliente", KZSF San Jose. In the dj
chatter he even mentioned La Caliented, as I recall.. so there's no
mistaking the two. Here's my audio of KZSF:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l4_fhX1pnH-uuUVo99-txXPMh8g8hyGQ/view?usp=sharing
KZSF 1370 shares a triplexed site with KSJX 1500, which I've logged here in
Alaska regularly. Also sharing that site is KLOK 1170 which I logged from
Wyoming. An engineer who worked on that site said it smells like waffles
with the Eggo factory sharing a parking lot
