** CUBA. 5040, UT Mon Feb 22 at 0240, RHC tropical, not in dead air,
managing to modulate for a change! So I can listen to `En Contacto`
which has just started, via Bonaire SDR. Main topic is generic info
about amateur satellites starting with OSCAR; a few QSLs on the air
and mention that ``Arnaldo Coro est? nuevamente colaborando en el
programa``. I was listening to hear exactly what they said since
Claudio Galaz, Chile reported Coro was greeted on the previous airing
at 2344-2359 on 13740. So apparently Arnie is better; however he was
still missing from the closing credits. At 0252 onward to the medical
show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** GERMANY. Trying the weblink roger had provided for more Radio Amrum
programming at 1900-2030 Feb 21: stereo rock music at first, nothing
about Amrum and of course DJ in German only. 1911 finally something
about Amrum, 1915 mention nostalgie; 2025 again about Amrum (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2074 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 21
from 2300:22 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160v; first at 2257, IS & ID loop at
S7-S9 via KB0FX SDR; in SAM mode carrier offset at first varying
around minus 62 Hz, i.e. 6159.938, but at 2319 recheck it`s minus
70-76 Hz, i.e. 6159.927v. Maybe a warmup factor, drifting down slowly
and slightly? I guess the WBCQ skews are due to crystal control, hard
to grind precisely, rather than frequency synthesis.
Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 22 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG S9+20 direct.
Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 22 at 0230 on WRMI 5800, S9+20/30 to KB0FX;
and 7780, S9+20 to Virginia SDR, but unusually not making it at all to
UTwente with a K-index of 4 - which nonetheless is not producing
auroral cx on MW, e.g. WCCO 830 still in well. Also confirmed on WRN
web/satcast. Next:
1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to Joe Caberlin, Port Colborne, Ontario for some
spare Canadian and US$ to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702,
USA
One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds,
to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9385, Feb 22 at 0020, WEWN English is unusually strong S9+20
with splash and artifacts down to 9375 especially around 9382.
Anything similar on the plus side obscured by 9395 WRMI (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** U S A. The #1 TV program I must never miss is `Sunday Morning`, on
CBS. When I first moved back to OK in the `90s, I discovered that the
CBS affiliate in OKC was not even airing it! Instead, gospel huxters:
after all, it`s --- Sunday morning. So I prevailed on a friend of mine
in Albuquerque to record and mail the tapes to me. Fortunately, KWTV
eventually started carrying it. Trouble is, the live airtime of 8-9:30
CT is unfortunately early for a night owl who would like to doze at
least until 9:00. Timer record? Yes, if you want to leave the cable
box and its spurs on all night; and KWTV cannot be depended on not to
shunt it to its substation KSBI if there be BREAKING NEWS or WEATHER.
Which meant I had to wake up by 8:00 to be sure to start the recording
on correct channel.
One week recently I did run the timer and got burned, so I had to go
after CBS SM on the website. As I reported at the time, it was
off-putting with rough interruptions for the same group of commercials
at every break. Even when started on time last week, my tape ran out
early so I had to get the last third from the website. Then I was
pleasantly surprised to find an adless stream which lasted only 62
minutes for the whole show and I could skip ahead to the last part I
had missed. So assuming that setup continue, I decide now to rely on
watching full episodes ASAP during following week at
https://www.cbsnews.com/sunday-morning/
OR NOT: now I find that altho there are clearly labeled linx to ``Full
Episode Feb 21``, you only get the first segment before it defaults to
``live`` CBSN. You have to keep going back to the SM page and clicking
anew on each segment, hoping not to miss anything altho they add up to
less than 62. OTOH one can easily skip occasional items about stupid
ballgames, which infested Superbowl Sunday. BTW, altho Suddenlink
cable provides many shows on demand from CBS and other networks, SM
has never been included (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 2959.839, Feb 22 at 0349, JBA carrier unseems birdie,
again suspecting a second harmonic from a Latin American MW 1479.9195
but nothing that far off in mwoffsets (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Subject: [HCDX] DAYTIMER DX TEST--WENR 1090 kHz Englewood, TN
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
The Courtesy Program Committee (CPC) of the IRCA and NRC are pleased to
announce a special Daytime DX Test for WENR 1090 kHz in Englewood, TN. The test
will run on Saturday, February 27, 2021 starting at 5:00 PM EST (22:00 UTC)
until 6:15 PM EST (23:15 UTC).
This unique DX Test was inspired by a recent article in the MW Circle by Barry
Davies and Steve Whitt, entitled ?Catch a US Daytimer.? It discusses the
possibility of logging daytime-authorized stations in the US during brief time
periods as they near the end of their broadcast day.
The hope is that DX?ers in Europe, along with some in the United States in the
Eastern, Central and possibly Mountain Time Zone will be able to take advantage
of enhanced propagation near sunset to log this station as well. The station
will run only legal voice identification, Morse Code identifications, sweep
tones and sound effects. No music, announcements or other material. This should
maximize the chances of DX?ers hearing this rare daytime station.
Running the test near the end of the broadcast day, rather than during normal
testing hours overnight has some unique advantages:
Allows DX?ers in Europe to take advantage of grayline propagation.
Less interference to Europe and the East Coast from KAAY in Little Rock.
More convenient for Chief Engineer. No late night trip to the transmitter site.
WENR normally runs a classic rock and roll format that is simulcast with their
250 watt FM translator, W285CG. They identify the station using the FM
branding, 104.9, ?The Mountain.? It transmits during daytime hours on a 1,000
watt signal with good coverage into one of East Tennessee?s mid-sized market of
Athens.
Starting at 5:00 PM EST, WENR will sign off it?s normal format of classic rock,
and begin running the DX test material for the next 1.25 hours. Listeners will
be advised to switch to the FM translator on 104.9 to continue enjoying the
music they normally hear.
QSL INFORMATION
Reception reports and verifications will be handled by the Courtesy Program
Committee of the NRC/IRCA. You can send them via e-mail only to:
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
We are modifying our rules for verifications to reflect the reality of limited
time and resources. Please read carefully:
Reports via e-mail only: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
Reports must include a recording of the best two minutes or less of your
reception in .MP3 or .WAV formats.
Short video clips of your reception on an SDR screen, your equipment and/or
antennas are also welcome. E-mail for details on sending very large files if
need be.
Must include your location, receiver and antenna used. Other details welcome.
Written details of the test welcome, but verifications will not be provided
unless a recording is included. No exceptions.
No reports accepted via US Mail.
Please be patient. Replies and verifications could take 6-8 weeks. Our priority
is in scheduling additional tests, not providing QSLs.
A LONG LIST OF THANK YOUS
This test would not be possible with the generosity of many. First, the station
owner Michael Beverly who agreed to act as our first ?test case? for a daytime
DX test. Chief Engineer George Hudson who helped us convince the station on
short notice was also critical to success.
Phil Bytheway of the International Radio Club of America who started all this
rolling by reaching out to George Hudson months ago as part of his specialized
sub-interest of collection radio station promotional materials. Paul Walker,
Joe Miller, KC80, and our newest member, Loyd Van Horn, W4LVH. These folks do
all the real work of the CPC and never get enough credit.
And lastly the authors of the article that inspired the idea to begin with,
Barry Davies and Steve Whitt.

** CUBA. 13568-trace, 13633, 13766 S7-S9, 13833, Feb 22 at 1524. FMish
spurblobs at 66-67 kHz intervals, with F# tone out of 13700-AM music;
something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13680, Feb 22 at 2110, S9+10/20 of dead air instead of
European service. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** CUBA. 5040, Feb 23 at 0309, is S7-S9 of dead air in Spanish;
something`s always wrong at RHC. But 6060 is Spanishing with rather
poor signal, while 9535 & 9650 are inaudible with K-index of 4 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5910, Feb 23 at 0316, CRI Plus in suptorted English relay at
S9/+30, but almost sufficient with volume up and close attention.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MADAGASCAR. 6179.944, Feb 23 at 0311, S8-S9 of Aleluya hymn,
``Radiodifusora Cristiana Mundial presenta ---``, i.e. World Christian
Broadcasting, not the other TN station, and quite off-frequency. How
do you say ``worldwide`` in Spanish as opposed to merely ``world``?
Mundial already implies the greater -wide, and can`t be diminished as
an adjective (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2074 monitoring: confirmed Monday
February 22 until 1929:40 on IRRS 7290 Bulgaria, tuned in just in time
via UTwente SDR having missed the start which should have been close
to 1900:40; poor S6-S8 vs usual splash. Then I check the NW Ireland
SDR during `Feature Story News` which follows, better at that skip
distance S8-S9. Next:
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

** U S A. 5800, Feb 22 at 0709, S9+20 of dead air. Got to be the
WRMI-10 transmitter still/again on for some reason, amid supposed
0430-2200 (Sat -1400) break. Meanwhile, the next WRMI transmitter,
#12, 5850, which is supposed to be on until 1400, is stronger S9+40
with TOMBS, as apropos for 315 vs 160 degraz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 5890, Feb 23 at 0317, WWCR-4 with non-TOMBS gospel huxter
this hour but with buzz/frying sound, producing peaks around 3-4 kHz
plus and minus. May originate from programmer, E. C. Fulcher rather
than station but which does not filter it out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 1509.835V, Feb 22 at 2335 UT, following these reports in
this week`s mv-eko of the Arctic Radio Club:
``1510 16.2 2300 KCTE Independence MO. Seriously offset this evening
at 1509.8395. OJS/L = Odd-J?rgen Sagdahl, Trondheim, remote Loran C
(close to Berlev?g [NE tip of Norway] ? 1000 meter 305 grader)
Oid/Tent Nordamerika --- 1510 17.2 0415 Tent KCTE Independence MO
stark med diverse ESPN-promos. 0346 n?gra Missouri-reklamer s?
t?mligen IDad. Speciellt som den ligger v?ldigt snett precis som
tidigare g?nger jag h?rt dem. Drygt 160 Hz l?gt! Brummar fint mot
j?mnstarka CO-stationen som ligger r?tt. BOS``
Despite being much closer to KCTE, I check for such a
far-off-frequency; on the DX-398 in offset SSB compared to 1500 &
1520, there is a 1510-minus looping about NNE/SSW. On the R75 I refine
it to 1509.835 and slightly wavering het against the 1510.00 stations.
Rather than measuring it directly which is difficult with all the QRM,
I match the het pitch I am hearing in AM mode, with same pitch on
1-Hz-step tuning in LSB mode. Also rocking back and forth, 1509.835 is
very close to the center of the signal, give or take a few Hz.
Altho OJS heard it at 23 UT, I`m expecting to get it only until 2400*
which is the official FCC sunset time in February (March: 0030*), for
this 10 kW direxional *daytimer* with major lobes to NNE & SSW. Signal
gradually improves and by 2355 I make out an OSHA PSA and ESPN
mention, and if tuned up to 1510.000-LSB, the audio sounds skewed in
pitch as it should from a lower frequency centre. No ID at top of
hour, however, nor does it go off!
Soon obvious it`s amid play-by-play of silly basketball game. Still
there obvious with its het at 0005, 0021. At 0032 I switch to the
Kansas City SDR of KD4HSO and hear exactly the same het on a stronger
semi-local signal. SAM mode readouts a carrier offset of minus 162v
Hz, plus or minus 1 Hz, which is another very neat fit equivalent to
1509.838v. More BKB, still past 0100 with no ID, starting coverage of
``second half``. Of course, KCTE has FM translators, so why don`t they
turn off the AM as legally required to do? Obviously local sunset is
no barrier, as the other log above was at 0415 UT.
Axually, such extrahourity and offfrequenciness are nothing new for
KCTE; I probably had it Dec 8, 2018. This was also reported in *2014y*
along with corroboration from others:
``1509.8 approx., Feb 26 at 0649 UT, KCTE Independence MO for at least
the fourth night is on the air illegally after daytime with
sportstalk, and far out of frequency tolerance, big het upon poor
WLAC.``
The first report in my archive was on the +plus side from *2011y*, ten
years ago: ``1510+, KCTE Independence MO is still off-frequency
producing audible het against weaker stations, Feb 9 at 1416; ID at
1417. Taped the day before and then checked against a keyboard, close
to F# below middle C, i.e. circa 185 Hz above 1510 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)`` Now I wonder if I put it on the wrong side?
Strangely enough, current mwoffsets misses KCTE now and ago with only
an interim entry when it must have managed some accuracy as possible:
``1510,0002 KCTE (Independence MO)[-1510.0008] 1400-0200 2018-01-22``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
