Dear Glenn
thanks for Radio Marti news last morning. Here in the Eastern part of Austria
tonight very well received with SINPO 45544+ on small Sony SW7600G. Never had
R. Marti here in this clarity, nice initiative. Let's see how long this will be
on air with USAGM funding.
?
Thanks, 73

** EGYPT. 9440v, Mar 12 at 2228, no signal from R Cairo into UTwente.
Earlier it had been reported active on 9900 during French. Something`s
always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** FRANCE. 21610-21615-21620, March 12 at 1556, DRM noise at S9 and
nothing else on 13m band. It`s TDF ISS spanning 1530/1900 per EiBi
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** GUAM. 15215, March 12 at 2205, ``Silent Night`` in oriental
language, S0/S2, Vietnamese as sked this hour from KSDA. Could it be
the 7DA hint their saviour was really allegedly born in springtime,
not that pagan winter solstice nonsense? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MALI. 17630, March 12 at 1557, American English discussion of AI,
S7/S9 one of best signals on band. Therefore must be CRI as scheduled
via Bamako toward E Africa. So this keeps Mali on SW despite absence
lately of ORTM. The Malians ought to insist as part of the relay deal,
the ChiCom keep their own transmitter working properly (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 5960.005, March 12 at 2300, VOT not off the air in English,
VG S9+35/45 into UTwente as usual M announcer signs on the 1330
broadcast -- only, which is also often the only one mentioned at
sign-off, and into news - or rather olds, no newer than 9.5 hours ago!
Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 17680, after yesterday`s surprise appearance of R. Mart? at
1939, checking earlier in the day March 12, not on before 1700, but on
by 1744 recheck, probably from 1700, VG S9+15/25 signal into UTwente.
It`s Spanish but all about Ukrussia rather than Cuba, first playing
satirical folk?song in Ukrainian or Russian with Putin in the lyrix.
1746 RM 1180 ID. 1747 phone interview about topic A. 1755 VOA sounder
and USG editorial, in Spanish, about you-know-what. 1800 contact info
on social nets, email, and `Abriendo Espacios` show opening, half an
hour about ``Cuban women`` but also really about Ukrussia, and lasts
until 1842 IDs again. UTwente is getting nothing but carriers at best
from 11860, 11930, 13820, as to be expected aimed at Cuba; checking
Maryland remote, again totally non-// programming to 17680.
Meanwhile a source at Grimesland says it`s a new service to reach
Cubans fighting for Russia in Ukraine -- volunteers, or convicts? --
as if they had time or inclination to listen to RM! 250 kW at 45
degrees. Further listening to 17680 is nothing but topic-A in Spanish.
1849 repeating the VOA editorial. Interviewing native-Spanish speaking
Ukrainians, 1857 a profesora Tatiana in Odesa; 2030 Anastasia Schmidt?
from Mikolaiv, with some accent. At 1856 had mentioned podcasts, and
that may be source of this audio, accounting for no breaks at
top-of-hours as to be expected on a `live` broadcast. Would not be
surprised at considerable repetition from hour to hour or day to day,
but would have to listen a lot more to determine that. 2034 a very
dramatic poem with music. 2036 discusses pronunciation of names
correctly in Ukrainian versions rather than Russian. 2043 the stirring
Ukrainian national anthem, not in Spanish. 2045 interview of Russlan
-- enumerating Russian losses in the war. 2100 VOA Yankee Doodle Dandy
s/ON, played twice, by mistake, pause, then 2102 VOA YDD s/OFF and
off*. So 17-21 UT daily? Or temporarily (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2233 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday March 12 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR, way
offbeam but I happen to have running, and ``getouttamyfrequency``
utenoiseblast audible first 14 sex.
Also confirmed Tuesday March 12 at 1300 [ex-1400] on WRMI 9955, S9
direct. Next:
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2232][SW suspended but still streamed?]
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW,
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

73702.
One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15555 USB, March 12 at 2159, WJHR s/off with contact info
accompanied by `Old Rugged Cross` tune, and off 2200. 9275 WMLK was
also still on at 2159 but goone when I got back to it after 2200
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. 750 kHz, March 12 at 0638 UT, two weak sigs
mixing, one talk, one rock. Checking since WSB had been reported off.
They make a SAH of 40/minute = 0.67 Hz apart. If on at full 50 kW U1,
WSB should be dominant. Shortly the music morphs to talk? Some net
talkshows do have music breaks. But *0647.8 what must be WSB cuts on
with bigsig talking. From experience, I know the most likely other one
would be CKJH, ``Beach [sic] Radio`` in landlocked Melfort,
Saskatchewan, 25/25 kW U4 despite supposed to be direxional-north at
night. Many Canadian MW fail to protect US stations as licensed. For
once, the SAH fits neatly per mwoffsets, both measured last August:
CKJH on 749.9995, WSB on 750.0002, i.e. 0.7 Hz apart!
IRCA posts in reverse order leading up to this:
``DX Alert: WSB 750 off air, Rick Kenneally, 2:06pm #40306 Wow,
catching up on Slack it seems much more than Argentina was heard.
Sounds like an amazing night on 750.``
``Paul Crankshaw 11:30am #40304 WSB off at 0410 utc but back on after
a stutter at 0640. See my Jaguar plot of 750 kHz carriers - attached.
Paul, Troon, Scotland``
``Rick Kenneally 11:22am #40303 Oh exciting! Normally I record
overnight on the west wire. But it came down in the windstorm so I?m
recording overnight on the south wire. Should be interesting. Will
review this weekend. Thanks Mike. Rick, Wilton, CT``
``Paul B. Walker, Jr. 5:22am #40302 The engineer is doing work, i just
saw him make a one line off handed remark in a facbeook post on his
page "goign to work on the legendary AM tonight" when posting a pic of
an FM transmitter. Regards, Paul Walker "The Alaska Radio Nerd"`` {sic}
``Mike Westfall 5:06am #40301 Check out 750 kHz. WSB suddenly dropped
of the air at about 0410 UTC and is still off. Argentina was heard
here with Tango music. -- Mike Westfall`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carriers, not a full 9/kHz
bandscan this late, but checking a few likelies, March 12 at 0636 UT:
only 711, surely WESTERN SAHARA; nothing on 774 or 855 Spain, 891
Algeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

In case you haven`t seen it, my original report about this yesterday:
** U S A. 17680, March 11 at 1939, S9+20/25 surprise signal in
Spanish, nothing in latest HFCC March 8. I was seeking some music to
nap by, maybe 17600 Algeria, till I hit this; medical discussion, then
1942, about IWD and Ukraine with a song, apparent program title
`Abriendo Espacios`. What could this be. Unsounds like RHC which
presumably supports Putin but no //s on to check, not even 15140
English. Not // Spain on 17715. VOA? Deleted SW Spanish years ago. Not
// R. Mart? 13820, 11930, 11860 --- BUT at 1947 ID as ``Martinoticias
AM 1180 y onda corta``. So it is Grimesland! I recheck on another
receiver the lower Mart? frequencies and they are // each other but
NOT this, altho subject is also Ukraine. Maybe same but far out of
synch, not merely a few seconds. How could that happen? 17680 off
before next check 2201. Maybe a test. If permanentized could obscure
NZ 17675, not even noticed today. Also, I occasionally check 35790 for
3 x 11930 which made it to Alberta, but mostly not even a JBA carrier

SWAZILAND [and non] 9585 kHz on March 13 at 1518 UT, FMish blob unread-
able but cadence of talk, atop JBA AM carrier, i.e. listed TWR in Malagasy
at 1455-1525 UT Mon-Fri but French on weekends. Probably remnant by long-
path. Blob could be spur of bigsig nearby? Modpeaks do not match blaster
9980kHz WWCR TOMBS. Could be of local origin? Then should be constant, but
nonesuch at 1727 UT recheck.

SWAZILAND [and non] 9585, March 13 at 1518, FMish blob unreadable
but cadence of talk, atop JBA AM carrier, i.e. listed TWR in Malagasy
at 1455-1525 M-F but French on weekends. Probably remnant by longpath.
Blob could be spur of bigsig nearby? Modpeaks do not match blaster
9980 WWCR TOMBS. Could be of local origin? Then should be constant,
but nonesuch at 1727 recheck.

2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW,
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

``Paul B. Walker, Jr. 5:22am #40302 The engineer is doing work, i just
saw him make a one line off handed remark in a facbeook post on his
page "goign to work on the legendary AM tonight" when posting a pic of
an FM transmitter. Regards, Paul Walker "The Alaska Radio Nerd"`` {sic}
``Mike Westfall 5:06am #40301 Check out 750 kHz. WSB suddenly dropped
of the air at about 0410 UTC and is still off. Argentina was heard
here with Tango music. -- Mike Westfall`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carriers, not a full 9/kHz
bandscan this late, but checking a few likelies, March 12 at 0636 UT:
only 711, surely WESTERN SAHARA; nothing on 774 or 855 Spain, 891
Algeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17680, March 11 at 1939, S9+20/25 surprise signal in
Spanish, nothing in latest HFCC March 8. I was seeking some music to
nap by, maybe 17600 Algeria, till I hit this; medical discussion, then

`Abriendo Espacios`. What could this be. Unsounds like RHC which
presumably supports Putin but no //s on to check, not even 15140
English. Not // Spain on 17715. VOA? Deleted SW Spanish years ago. Not
// R. Mart? 13820, 11930, 11860 --- BUT at 1947 ID as ``Martinoticias

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST update
Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm
1) USA - WEWN: Updated label for link to frequencies as it now links
to current A-24 schedule [as expected, 12050 Spanish, 15610 English
which has been missing lately -gh]
2) USA - WINB: Updated links to frequency/programme pages
3) USA - WRMI: Updated links to WRMI frequency and programme page for
A-24 season
The next update is scheduled for late March. Best wishes and 73, Alan
Roe
** CUBA. 15140, March 14 at 1900, no signal from RHC English at summer
timing, only heard once so far, nor 11760. The Other Side:
``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW March 8, 2024 OPINION
Ra?l Castro: the general in his defeat
Erratic policies, produced by fear and devoid of objectives, have been
the hallmarks of this Raulian era, the perfect culmination of a regime
that is close to disappearing and that no one will miss.
Rafaela Cruz, La Habana 07 Mar 2024 - 20:12 CET
If pathological cowardice is mixed with intellectual vacuity, the
result is a Ra?l Castro. This general with more stars on his
epaulettes than shots fired in combat - his command on the Second
Front was a kind of camping trip - would border on the pathetic if it
were not for the fact that while he basks in Cuba's best cays, the
people are scraping and struggling just to eat.
His late brother ? the main character responsible for the country's
ruin? although racking up a string of disasters sufficient to fill an
encyclopedia of failure, at least had the ability to survive by
prostituting himself politically, monetizing his virulent ideology,
and exporting his totalitarian method. But Ra?l cannot even manage
that...

** CUBA [non]. R. Mart?: see U S A 17680
** HAWAII [and non]. 10000-10004 approx., March 14 at 0636, noise
blast QRMs WWVH, must tune for it on LSB. The Standard Frequencies are
supposed to be protected (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MALI. 5995, March 14 at 0639, still nothing but noise blob,
presumably out of defective ORTM transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD
OF RADIO 2234)
** U S A. 17865, March 14 from 1600, NO signal from Grimesland for R.
Mart?. Will the 13-17 UT segment ever appear?
17680 open carrier is already on at 1653, S9+10/15 into UTwente. Very
rough start! 1700 still dead air. 1701 VOA WDC s/on with YDD - again
at 1702! after DA pause, at 1703 VOA WDC s/OFF. 1704 different s/off
with contact info for programming. 1704.5 VOA ID with YDD. 1705
disclaimer, no programming available, so music fill. Disclaimer
blaming on propagation conditions. Propagation OK, so resuming
programming. 1706 regrets there is no programming. 1707 VOA beginning
AFRTS! VOA finishing AFRTS. Dead air.
1708, finally R. Mart? ID, and into program `La Libertad es Libro`,
featuring Ukrainian poetry in translation, but mostly discussing it.
1800 no ToH break. 1803 VOA Editorial: anti-Putin. 1808 back to
MartiNoticias. 1809 `Abriendo Espacios` women`s show. 1858 another VOA
Editorial. 2000 recheck, VOA editorial about Ukraine, again (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2234)
Comments from the WOR iog: Kai Ludwig, Germany: ``Nothing in HFCC so
far, and no publicity at the usual places either. "Abriendo Espacios"
as programme name is too generic for a web search without further
digging.
Is this Mart? or rather VOA? Perhaps some kind of cooperation, but
still one could ask if this is a playout from Miami or Washington.
And why not from either Biblis or Lampertheim, which would provide
significantly better reception? They keep churning out 5.7 million
dollar each year for these meanwhile badly underused facilities. I
think I asked already some kind ago what kind of strategy this is, or
if they have any beyond "we always did it this way" at all.
So no one in Russia and Ukraine will listen to shortwave anymore, but
mercenaries from Cuba will? To a sub-standard signal, delivered over
almost 9,000 kilometres? Made my day. Kai Ludwig``
Bill Tilford, IN: ``It wasn't all that far back that Mart? was
broadcasting DRM to Cuba. They are never given an Oinker Award but
have been a worthy candidate for years - an operation in search of a
mission. Personally, I think the most plausible explanation for their
existence is a place to hide part of the black budget. Just a theory,
but a good one methinks``
Tony Pavick, BC: ``I have a slightly noisy but fairly understandable
signal. Discussion with a university professor talking about writing a
diary about Ukraine to tell the world about what is happening.
This is a really fascinating undertaking. While some may question its
effectiveness, the thought of targeting deployed Cuban troops with R
Marti in some form where it won't be jammed as at home is intriguing.
In a sense this is a bit like Radio Atl?ntico del Sur and Argentina's
Liberty. Tony``

** U S A. 9395 // 9455, March 14 at 0633 Korean, 0634 into English,
i.e. Supreme Master TV. Now at this hour and a few other WRMI blox
sked on two System J frequencies instead of just one. Its
unpredictable multi-lingual format with no translation captions
possible makes it quite a turnoff for radio listeners; besides its
cultish devotion to the SM, however laudable its environmental outlook
