Subject: [HCDX] Masset loggings for Jan 20 - 25

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"

I'm heading home to Victoria tomorrow, so here are more loggings made
during the past week. Any errors are my own, and corrections/comments are
welcome. 73, Walt

AUSTRALIA 17650, 2259-, Reach Beyond Australia Jan 22 Listed in Japanese,
but with an English language program. Signed off with time and frequency
information, and confirming time in Japan, all in English. Transmitter cut
a few seconds after 23:00 UTC. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

EGYPT 9890, 1923-, Radio Cairo Jan 22 Strong S9+10 signal into Masset and
actually perhaps 33% modulation. Somewhat distorted with a mid-ranged
rumble, but one can make out the Russian language content. Music at 19:26,
but still with the rumble, but clear enough for Shazam to ID the music:
Kol El Omor by Saber Rebai. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

GERMANY 9525, 1929-, Adventist World Radio Jan 22 Carrier on at 19:29:00.
At 19:30, 'You're listening to Adventist World Radio', then IS, then
multilingual IDs. Then in English with web address. The following program
is in Igbo. Very good reception. Very nice for 250 kW with a 186 degree
beam. Perhaps off the back, or long path propagation. Not on the air
when checked on January 24th. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

IRAN 9650, 1530-, Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran Jan 24 Big empty
carrier noted, without a hint of modulation. Supposed to be in English.
(Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

IRAN 11880, 1927-, Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran Jan 22 Still zero
modulation on their scheduled English broadcast at this time. (Salmaniw,
Masset, BC)

ROMANIA 7235, 1918-, Radio Romania International Jan 24 Not showing up on
the DRM schedule on the KiwiSDR, but showing as German at Short-wave.info
webpage. Too weak for audio, but text is showing. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

RUSSIA 8888, 0207-, VOLMET Jan 24 This is a fascinating channel. 3
different cities are listed as providing VOLMET services: Syktyvkar (Komi
Republic and furthest to the North) at 00: and 30: minutes, Samara at 15:
and 45: minutes, and Novosibirsk at :10 and :40 minutes. I was listening
from 02:00 UTC tonight and no one came on until exactly 02:07. There
seemed to be a bit of a delay in the transmission, making for an echo, so I
wondered whether there was more than one transmitter site, and :07
minutes? This is the closest to :10 for Novosibirsk, and seems to be the
usual reported (whether correct or not). What was interesting was it cut
at exactly 02:20 leaving a much weaker station...with the identical female
Russian voice. So perhaps this is Samara? Nothing heard at 02:30, but
there she is again at 02:37 UTC, so presumably the same station as at
02:07. They give temperatures and wind speed (in M/Sec). Off at 02:45
with again, a very weak station continuing (but weaker than before). My
signal strength was about as good as the often used Novosibirsk KiwiSDR
(although they had OTH radar QRM as well). (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

TIBET 4905, 1600-, Hello Xizang Jan 24 Very strong reception this morning.
Time pips, 6 seconds late, then into IDs, but not a word about Tibet. News
in English. Mostly economic propaganda. We had a very windy night. This
morning all my antennas are quite noisy with frequent static crashes. Once
it's light, I'll have to check my antenna farm, although I suspect some
branches on power lines somewhere. However, there is a lot of lightning
activity especially north of Hawaii, Eastern Australia, and just to the
east of Japan (via lightningmaps.org). This channel is strongest of the
various other frequencies on 4, 6, and 7 MHz. 4920 also about as strong.
Excellent modulation. News continued (yawn) until 16:19. They then gave
email and website addresses, then into Tibetan music. Very distinctive.
Noticed at the same time some digital hash between 4901 and 4903, so had to
switch to SAU to avoid that. I then switched over to 6200 which was much
quieter and just as strong. Temperature in Lhasa was - 18 deg. Tourism
section of Hello Xizang follows at 16:25, but with the same heavily
accented female we usually hear. She mentions the only Catholic church
located in Xizang, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Yerkalo. Then
salt production from brine. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

TIBET 6200, 1658-, Hello Xizang Jan 22 What was formerly Holy Tibet was
coming in very well this hour, and improving throughout. Strongest of many
frequencies available. An interesting song at the end, with a bit of rap
included! No ID via Shazam. Into time pips at 17:00 and presumed ID. Not
100% sure that it's Tibetan, though, and not Mandarin. Other channels
heard: 4905 (good), 4920 (good, apart from occasional digital hash between
4922 and 4924, 6025 (fair), 6130...not sure whether it's them due to huge
adjacent 6125 splatter, 6110 (poor/fair), 7255 (would be good, except for
cochannel CRI English!), 7385 (listed, but another program heard here).
Excellent reception this morning, January 25th on the 60 meter channels.
(Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

TIBET 6200, 1630-, Hello Xizang Jan 22 Quite good reception today on
multiple frequencies. Best on 6200, but also well heard on 4905, 4920.
Also audible on 6025, 6110, and 7255. 7385 had a different program
running. 7255 suffers from cochannel CRI in English. Tibetan music
playing. As always, very difficult to follow the English speech due to the
heavily accented female. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

USA 9275, 2344-, WMLK (non) Jan 24 I haven't heard WMLK for several days
now, checking several times per day. Technical glitch?. (Salmaniw, Masset,
BC)

USA 9395, 0100-, Canadian Content Radio Jan 24 Very nice reception tonight
of his final show (for now). Signal steadily improved throughout the hour
from good, to very good reception. A nice selection of music, and musings.
(Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

USA 13158, 2344-, KPH Jan 24 Very good reception with sea conditions in
voice. California area. Wind speeds in knots and temperatures in
Fahrenheit. Calling for rain, which would be great for the southern
California fire situation! Continued to 23:51:20, then quick CW ID for KPH
(2 seconds), and off. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

YEMEN (NON) 11934.894, 1938-, Republic of Yemen Radio Jan 22 Very good
reception over the Pole with quite a smeared carrier. Clean audio in
Arabic. No sign of scheduled Vatican Radio in Latin at 19:40 UTC.
(Salmaniw, Masset, BC)

** CANADA [non]. Sean Welsh replies to my previous report: ``Hi Glenn,
Canadian Content Radio was a bit of both Canadian Content and my
likes; depended on what the request load looked like and what I had
been listening to prior to producing the show. Some programs had no
Canadian content other than my commentary. There will be no repeats of
previous shows. 1/23/25 was the final edition -- for now`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2279 monitoring: 5085 WTWW still
OFF, at 0400 UT Sat Jan 25.

Happened to awaken circa 0945 UT Sat Jan 25, but 9455, 7730 and all
WRMI frequencies still off so could not confirm whether WOR aired then
on either.

Confirmed Saturday January 25 at 1534 the 1530 on SW Radio, Germany,
6160.000+, S9+5/15 into UTwente with usual ChiCom ACI from 6165,
evitable by LSB tuning and/or narrowed bandwidth.

Also confirmed Saturday January 25 at 1700 on WRN North America
webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday January 25 at 1830 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.001+, S9+5/15 into UTwente.

Not confirmed Saturday January 25 at 2030 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO.
Nearby SDR in MO is offline, but not even a carrier detected via other
remotes in IL, IA, nor direct, so OFF? Might have something to do with
`Winter Field Day` contest, lots of 10m activity. I keep checking 1860
later and by 2348, WA0RCR is JBA in Peoria, and by 2413, S6/S7. I
still suspect it was off earlier.

WOR 2279 also confirmed Saturday January 25 at 2043 the 2030 on WRN
North America webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday January 25 at 2100 on WRN Europe webcast.

much appreciated. HNY and Good DX for 2025.``

now following this report via Alan Pennington: ``0320 UTC January 25 -
Due to extremely cold temperatures in the Okeechobee area, a main
power line has gone down, so all of our frequencies are off the air
(except our Internet stream on 9955 kHz). Florida Power & Light has
dispatched a crew to find and repair the problem, but it could take up
to several hours. WRMI will go back on the air as soon as electrical
power is back on here. Thanks for your understanding. (WRMI Facebook
