OMAN I find this 9465 / 702 kHz BBC Persian service announcement
in the 04:30?05:00 UT time slot confusing; or have I misunderstood
something?

Noted on Saturday Febr 7 at this time in ME/NE/Greece target Perseus SDR's
remotedly:

EMPTY Persian content channel audio:

9465.007 kHz slightly odd frq of S=9+20dB signal level continously
transmitting
a 1000 Hertz whistle tone at 04.35 UT,
last these 30 minutes outlet slot to 05.00 UT sharp switch-off.

Next channel is 9470.002 kHz service from China mainland domestic sce Urumqi
Xinjiang province.

702 kHz - nil signal mediumwave channel noted at Doha Qatar at 04.41 UT Sat
July 7.

Grey line at 04.45 UT in on Cyprus - Cairo EGY path
much far westerly in eastern mediterranean sea, but not in Saudi peninsula,
UAE nor Oman MW reception.

At same time observed religious US private shortwave station WINB on
9264.986 kHz S=9+20 into NE/ME, played US National Anthem in 04.58 to 05.00
UT time slot.

I was wondering about the site for 702 BBC - as Iran already has/had a 500
kW on 702;
what became of it? So BBC is Oman, surely not Saudi Arabia. Glenn

For the first time I heard this 16.30 UT Iran target special today Sat Febr
7

1630-1700 daily ME 702sla, 9465sla

BBC Oman A'Seela is only on par with the Iranian parallel channel station.

Yes Oman is on air on even 702.000 kHz at 16.30 UT,
but suffers both on different receivers remotedly
on KIWI net at Doha SDR in Middle East
as well as in Perseus unit at Doha Qatar too,

BBC Oman is equal level as of this probably MW Iranian on

701.978 kHz.

22 Hertz distance away with same S=9+10dB signal level.

So maybe in other parts of far south eastern Iran/PAK border the
BBC ENC A'Seela Oman signal 702 kHz will be better in quality
for the local Persian audience, I guess.

SW Oman is exact 9465even kHz, S=9+40dB powerhouse signal
b u t
probably the Iranians at Sirjan set a 1000 Hertz whistle tone jamming
transmission on the lower frq flank,
also co-channel on exact 9464 kHz.

** ARGENTINA [non]. 9455, Fri Feb 6 at 2300, RAE via WRMI
language-of-the-day is: Chinese! WRMI blue System D skedgrid still
claims Portuguese on M/T/?/F; while the separate unlettered but first
skedgrid for RAE claims at 2300 it`s on 7570, 9955 --- NOT. Somethings
odd at Okee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Feb 7 at 0712, JBA carrier, likely RHC; also JBACs on
15300, 15350; and 15770 which means WRMI is barely propagating, so
Cuba could too. Then at 0722, S9+25 of DA on 11760, or is it JBM? Has
to be RHC, and even more so at 0725 on 9710, S9+25 of deadair. At
1549, 15140 with S8/S9 of windhowl. At 2007 into Georgia SDR, only
15140 windhowl S9/+25, makes neat symmetrical patterns on the
waterfall. Somethings always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** HUNGARY. 28477 USB, Feb 7 at 1543, HA3NU calling QRZ contest and
working. QRZ.com: `HA3NU Hungary flag Hungary, LASZLO WEISZ, R?K?CZI
U. 23-25. B/2 FSZ. 2., SZEKSZARD H-7100, Hungary -- If you'd like to
know more from me, please visit my home page: www.ha3nu.hu `` One of
few signals on band. If this is propagating, maybe I can finally hear
the low-power Dane on 25800? NO (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 800, Feb 7 at 0745, extremely distorted,
intonation recognizable as Spanish, atop KQCV OKC, as XEERG NL is
worse than ever (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13755, Sat Feb 7 at 0714, S9/+20 ``Going Home``
soprano, song to the tune from Dvo??k`s New World Symphony. Rare to
hear anything nearly classical on RNZP. Ends at 0719 but no
back-announcement and into non-classical. It`s the request show
allowing that to happen: ``8:08 PM. Saturday Night -- Saturday nights
on RNZ National is where Paul Brennan plays the songs YOU want to
hear. All music from 7 till midnight (RNZ)`` -
Here`s another version:
https://youtu.be/AAw78FOkhZs
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 93.1, dead air not heard lately in Enid as of Feb 7. I
have no reason to believe it`s a licensed station, hardly ever any
modulation, but WTFDA reports an FCC axion of Feb 6: ``K226BR 93.1
Enid OK move site to 36-25-14 97-52-30`` It had been a translator of
KIMY 93.9 Watonga gospel huxter, but gone for years. May a comeback be
pending? FCC LMS shows previous NAD83 Co?rdinates:
36 23' 48.1" N 97 52' 39.2" W -- so moving further north and slightly
westward from the decrepit Broadway Tower in downtown Enid. Google
Maps leads to 294 East Willow Road, which is about one block west of
the studio and towers of KCRC 1390. However, that would be slightly
east rather than west of the BW tower longitude (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 17755, Feb 6 at 2304, REE African frequency still totally
off the air, not even JBA carrier into Georgia SDR, while the others
are VG 17715, 12030, 9690. Some editor will not file this under 17755
where nothing was heard, despite that being the *total point* of this
observation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 6 at 2302, VOT English not off the air, S9+10/20
into Georgia SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2333 monitoring: confirmed Friday
February 6 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, S9+10/20 into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed Friday February 6 at 2330 on SW Radio Gold, Germany,
3975.001+, S7/9+5 into UTwente.

Not confirmed UT Sat Feb 7 at 0400, on WTWW 5085, still totally off
the air.

Not confirmed Sat Feb 7 at 1556 the 1530 on SW Radio Gold, Germany,
3975 & 6160; instead, Texas Radio Shortwave preempted, now on its
daily schedule for Feb 7; they were not // maybe just not
synchronized. We`re supposed to be back next week on both, but from
Feb 28, 6160 only.

Confirmed Saturday February 7 at 1630 on WRMI 9955, S9+20 into
Knoxville SDR.

Confirmed Saturday February 7 at 1700 on WRN via WRMI 9395, after
false start, ``Welcome to Encore ---``, S9+8 into Knoxville SDR, but

Thanks Anatoly,

July 4, 1976
And the Initial Start to the RUS-dx Woodpecker Tschernobyl 50 year
anniversary
of the DUGA installation in Belarus and Komsomolsk Amur locations
note:

RUSSIA {USSR radio history}.

The Russian woodpecker that the whole world heard: how a Soviet antenna as

tall as a 50-story building frightened the West and disappeared after

Chernobyl.

Table of Contents:

- An idea twenty years ahead of its time.

- When construction costs more than a nuclear power plant.

- How the Americans "crippled their pants."

- What the woodpecker saw.

The woodpecker's legacy.

On July 4, 1976, a sonic anomaly engulfed the planet. Radio amateurs from

London to Tokyo simultaneously heard a strange rhythmic tapping sound on

the airwaves. Tap-tap-tap. Ten times a second. Monotonous. Relentless. As

if a giant woodpecker were pecking its beak across the entire shortwave

range.

The signal was so powerful that it penetrated even ordinary radios, jamm-

ing telephone conversations and making aviation communications impossible.

Western countries sounded the alarm.

Thousands of complaints poured in to the governments of the United States,

Great Britain, and Canada. Radio amateurs around the world tried to trian-

gulate the source. Some suggested a secret weather-control weapon. Others

spoke of psychotronic influence on the population.

The USSR remained silent. In response to all diplomatic inquiries, Soviet

representatives shrugged their shoulders:

"We know nothing, it wasn't us." General Staff maps of the forests between

Pripyat and Chernigov bore the usual label: "pioneer camp." No military

installations. Nothing suspicious.

And behind this silence lurked one of the most ambitious and insane pro-

jects of the Cold War.

{RUSSIA/UKRAINE/Former USSR} History. Remember "Soviet Woodpecker".

Hallo!

"The Russian Woodpecker" von Chad Gracia. Er wurde erstmals 2015 auf

dem Sundance Film Festival gezeigt, siehe:

<https:\\www.kino-zeit.de/film-kritiken-trailer-streaming/the-russian-

woodpecker>

The DUGA transmitter was one of the world's largest and most powerful

broadcasting facilities. The signal power was estimated at 10 MW EIRP

(10,000,000 watts equivalent isotropic radiated power). It broadcast on

varying frequencies in the shortwave band between 7 and 19 MHz, the same

frequency range previously used by worldwide stations on shortwave bcast

and beyond.

The facility interfered with (or at least affected) radio reception

worldwide.
