** CHINA. 17880, June 19 at 2204, Chinese songs S9+10/20, the SSOB;
equivalent to 17715 Spain. HFCC shows CRI Spanish at 22-23, 500 kW,
318 degrees from Beijing site for CIRAF 14 = Argentina & neighbors.
Would be reaching us via a more polar route via the Midnight Sun.
17880 is usually audible, but weakly. This has always seemed to me a
strange service, aiming NW from Beijing across the Arctic eventually
to deep South America - instead of low-latitude trans-Pacific from the
other side. Or Mali or East Turkistan would be much closer (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHILE. 21315 USB, June 19 at 2207, CE2MNB, with rapid contacts in
rapid Spanish, a few of them JBA. Not sure if this were the station I
heard, or call of a station he heard, seldom giving another call.
QRZ.com: ``CE2MNB Chile flag Chile, MANUEL FRANCISCO LOPEZ FRAILE, SAN
ALFONSO 960, limache, VA 2240000, Chile`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, June 19 at 2202, VOT English to N America is not off
the air, but totally unusable JBA, with ACI splash from Brasil 11780,
even with USB tuning. Compare to Spain at same time on 15500, 15520,
17715, all much better (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2352 monitoring: not confirmed
Friday June 19 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, since there is NO signal direct -

inaudible. At 2225 into Georgia SDR, still NO signal on 9955.

** U S A. 7490, June 20 at 0000, WBCQ stream with `William Tell
Overture` opening `Angela And Allan Weiner World Wide`, opening
exclamations during theme include ``we`re still standing`` ...
``independent constitutional republic`` ... schisms``. Yes, it`s
another rerun, from May 30 and also June 6. Never mind. Quick check of
NH remote finds 7490 only on the air, not all five as he claimed two
sesquiweeks ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non[. 3955, Fri June 19 at 2226, `Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot`

them, not on an US station, or [o, no!] webcast alternative (Glenn

** U S A. re: WBBM AM 780 --- ``Glenn, long long time listener;
regarding the recent report of signal difficulty with AM 780 from
Chicago:

780 and 670, both owned by the same company, are moving transmitter
locations. Several years back 780 moved the transmitter location to
co-locate with 670. They removed the tower to sell off the land. As
the 670 tower was bigger they had to reduce power, down from 50kW to
35kW in daytime and 42kW at night. They are presently moving both
stations to the daytime site of AM 1160, North of Chicago. The land
value and aging facilities are encouraging the move. AM 1000 moved
about 6 months ago from their Downers Grove site to sharing the site
used by the AM 820 night transmitter, South of Chicago near Joliet,
which also hosts a low power FM translator station.

The land value of these transmitter sites near Chicago have become too
valuable to reserve for AM broadcast facilities. It's probable any
signal difficulties on 780 or 670 will be related to building out new
transmitting facilities. 670 and 780 are not actively marketing their
AM signals. Both have full power coverage on the FM band and even
mentioning the AM frequency has become rare. They only promote the FM
and streaming. AM 890 has considered relocating. carry on, Eric
Ferguson, Lockport, Illinois``

Eric, Tnx for the info. I have no interest in listening to 670, but
have not noticed any problems with it when tuning around, unlike 780
