** ANTARCTICA [non]. Reminder that the annual BBC special to their
people way down under is imminent, June 21 at 2130-2200. Frequencies
to be: 9460 & 12070 from Woofferton, 9510 from Ascension (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, June 21 at 0631, RHC S9+25/35 of deadair with howl -
or rather, roar. It`s even more audible tuning to sidebands like
plus/minus 6 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6184.95, June 21 at 0647, R. Educacion, S9+20 but JBM, as
often the case, and always off-frequency-minus. But it`s the SSOB
except for UStations on 5850, 5920, 5935 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13690, June 21 at 0629, RNZP still here at S9, SSOB if
not OSOB. Now sked to switch to 9700 daily at 0658/0659, skipping
11725 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 99.5, June 21 at 1904, fruitless Es search but I do
notice that Henryetta has indeed changed ID to KVOO-FM, to cement its
Tulsa-market would-be identity, country. Marginally audible here. KVOO
was of course the original 1170 and channel A2 NBC, and I think was
applied to some other FM frequency. As in Voice Of Oklahoma, certainly
a heritage legacy call worth preserving betterly (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 11660.020-, Sun June 21 at 1640, VOT English S9+15/20 into
UTwente with music after olds; 1647 Letterbox theme, with Cemre, World
Cup underway, Turkey is in it; HS entrance exams postponed to avoid
conflict with game. More European reports this time. 1) Eric? Oliver?
Arroz?, Zaragoza, Spain, 11-year-old [if true] who really impresses
her. Asks for lots of stuff, old QSL cards, stamps, postcards; regrets
that parents don`t allow him to send cash for r.p. 2) --?, Berlin,
Germany. 3) Richard --?, Thueringen, eastern Germany, listened to
Pashto service, likes exotic languages, do they have mailbag? No.
Listening and broadcasting since 1971. 4) --?, with club in W Bengal.
5) Paul --?, Lancs. 6) Andre Kuznetsov, Riga, Latvia, heard ``11785 at
1900-1950 UTC`` -- there is no such broadcast, but Cemre doesn`t
correct it; the 22 UT on 11785 would be at 19 local in the UT -3 zone
which is not Latvia. 7) Annan? Bane?, India, about WCup. 8) a new one:
Martin Skolar?, Bratislava, ``Slovaykia``, likes Turkish classical
music. 9) finally, Mohammed Breyel, Malaysia. 1709 ending, 1710 theme.
As usual I cannot be sure of most of the names and Cemre makes no
effort to spell them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. DXMAP shows very high MUFs even over 108 MHz, nexus for
sporadic E right over Oklahoma, June 21 circa 1600. Does us no good
tho I wonder if some of that DX might scatter downwards? So I bandscan
in the car anyway 1606-1630, somesigs on `open` frequencies like 89.5
& 90.7 but probably tropo/enhanced groundwave as I am getting several
Wichita and Tulsa sigs not normally so good. Maybe later the nexus
will shift far enough away to be useful.

Another session at 1743-1806 UT in the car:

92.1 at 1750, gospel huxter fading in & out, seems skip, $tereo.

92.3 at 1754, VG signal can`t be OK or KS, talk about marketing, in &
out. 1759 ad for Dr Earl Mendel; 1800 KTAR Glendale ID, ABC news. 1805
local weather, 110 degrees expected, now 95; ``Arizona`s news station,
KTAR,`` f/out, and nothing further found in full bandscan:
KTAR-FM 92.3 GLENDALE AZ NEWS/TALK KTAR NEWS 65479 98.0 kW 545.0 m
33-19-58 112-03-48 HD 423D KTAR Arizons's {sic} News Station News
1340/833. I guess it`s not // AM 620 more easily heard, at night.

89.5 at 1801, classical briefly, probably this to match 92.3 location:
KBAQ 89.5 PHOENIX AZ CLASSICAL K-BACH 40096 29.7 kW 474.0 m 33-19-58
112-03-53 HD 12B4 Title & ARtist on KBAQ | KBAQ | Member Supported
KBAQ Classical 1334 km/829 stmi

Midpoint for the AZ logs is central NM. Another check at 1900 UT: no
Es, but now the nexus has shifted to N UT/SW WY, with heavy skip back
and forth in every direxion, but we are just a little too far beyond
the edge! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN. 11815, June 21 at 0634, RCC chanting, S5/S7 and // weaker
S3/S4 9710. No Cuba. It`s Sunday-only 0605-0700 Ukrainian service, or
is it Orthodoxish? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5990/5998, June 21 at 0645 strange noise, not DRM, and
no sign of a carrier on 5995 from Mali (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

HFCC site now shows these BBC frequencies from 14 June 2130-2145 UTC,
so presume there were tests for the upcoming Antarctic midwinter broadcast
on 21st June 2130-2200 and so probably some of the frequencies
to be used on Sunday looking at the CIRAF targets (67, 73).
(Usually one frequency gets dropped on 21st)

** ANTARCTICA [non]. 12070, June 21 at *2130, BBC Woofferton crash
start for opening of annual mid-winter special to Antarctic bases. By
2128 I was not hearing anything here, nor on 9510 Ascension, 9460
Woof. So I hastened to bring up a remote: Bras?lia, getting 12070
quite well, S7/9+8, so did not even try the others via. Of course, all
that really matters is that DU people get it well on at least one
frequency. But the rest of us are eavesdroppers, encouraged by the
wide publicity for this annual event. Cerys Mathews again hostesses
the show, she said for the 20th year. First called, South Georgia,
interview about the weather there. Brief music bits at transitions, as
supposedly requested. Most of the greetings quite personal from
family, and rather banal to the eavesdropper, so I don`t try to copy
much of that. 2132 music ``Walking on a Dream``; 2133 greetings to
King Edward Point. 2135 music, and calling an island with 4 humans,
thousands of penguins, Bird Island, isolated. 2139 ``Sea Shepherd``.
2142 msg from director of British Antarctic Survey; calling Rothera
which I think is the main base, on Adelaide Island, music. 2153
remaining messages for Rothera; 2156 I quickly check reception direct:
12070 best but too weak, 9510 JBA, 9460 no signal. 2158, Happy
Midwinter, and a bit of Simon & Garfunkel. 12070 chopped off the air
at 2200* sharp (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 6180, June 21 at 2200, since I have Brasila SDR up for BBC
Antarctic special, I then check for local RNA: still no signal on
6180, but VG on 11780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2352 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
June 21 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.994, S9+10 with storm
crashes into nearby Noale SDR.

Also confirmed Sunday June 21 at 2140 the 2130 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160.001-, S8/9+10 into UTwente; and at 2145 on 3975.001+,
S9+5/20.

Also confirmed Sunday June 21 at 2330 on WRMI 9455, s8/9+5 into
Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday June 22 at 0052 the 0030 on WRMI 7780, on
portable during FMDX session.

NOT confirmed UT Monday June 22 at 0300 on Area 51 webcast; after JL
gotta go and 5130 WBCQ signing off before he finish, nothing but
continuous music on webcast past 0338, including `Wild Thang` at 0310.
What happened? Next:

1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 6160;
2330 UT Monday WBCQ 7490v to WSW [NEW TIME]

** U S A. More sporadic E FMDX chasing UT Monday June 22 on caradio,
since DXMAP now shows a major NEXUS around St Louis MO about 450 miles
from here; we should get some DX from about twice that distance if the
MUF permit. So I start tuning about 0040 UT:

92.9 at 0047, ID as Q-92-5, ads for PittsburghPeoplesGas.com. 0047,
legal tax debt, 800-268-4420. Greater Pitt Tree Service. This is
clearly IDed, but not so sure more 92.9s below are same station, lots
of CCI.
WLTJ 92.9 PITTSBURGH PA HOT AC Q 92.9 73889 43.0 kW 260.0 m 40-29-43
80-00-17 HD 73AB Q92.9 Artist/Title 1619 km/1006 stmi

92.9 at 0049 mentions Marina del Rey, [California], but probably not
from out there. Would be next to Santa M?nica, no 92.9s around there.

92.9 at 0057, too many national ads: Autozone, JTV.com, Macy`s for
Father`s Day > better hurry up! Sherwin-Williams paints, Progressive
Insurance. JTV is a TV shopping network, HQ in Knoxville, FWIW.

92.9 at 0101 or 0107 mention West Virginia, CCI, ``in the mix``. The
little translator in OKC, The Edge, is an obstacle. No mix stations in
PTA. Pittsburgh might well mention nearby WV.

87.7 at 0113, trace of rock music. Closest FrankenFM to PTA? WQSE-LD
Syracuse NY; more definitely heard recently.

97.5 at 0120, has been steady and figure it`s only Tulsa, KMOD, but
0120 ``97-5 KTMS[?]`` jingle. Presumably KZLF Alva OK, 50 kW instead.

93.5 at 0126, trace of French Canadian, CCI. There are only two
full-powers, neither in PTA: CKSB-7-FM, Kenora ON, ICIRC1 20 kW; and
CKXO-FM Chibougamau QC, 56.23 kW, a remote area far north of Montreal.
[2411 km/1498 stmi]

I suspend at 0130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
