I notice an awful lot of `white space` in WRMI`s current A26 transmitter schedule grid. Just what proportion of its total capacity is axually in use? Regardless of programming, and day-of-week variations, I inspect and calculate hours of usage. This should be considered approx., also disregarding any errors in the sked, outages. Most transmitters on at any one hour? 13 at 01-02; 11 at 03-04; Least at any one hour? 4 at 13-15, 16-21; Most-used transmitters, 24h: 7730, 9395, 15770; Least-used transmitter: 0 hours: #1; Runner-up for least used: 3 hours: 5800. Total hours of 14 transmitters per day: 153; Maximum possible: 24 x 14 = 336; 153 divided by 336 = 45.5%; Or disregarding #1 which is not in use at all: 153 divided by 312 = 49%. Obviously, since each transmitter uses only one frequency, unlike some years in the past, some of the lowest ones are useless in the daytime, less so some of the highest ones at night. If there were demand and capability, many more daytime hours could be achieved using higher bands such as 11 and 13 MHz, not scheduled at all. Of course, a lot of WRMI airtime is unpaid, such as WRN relays. They are to be lauded for devoting so much resource to `public service` programming. Otherwise the usage % of capacity would be much lower. Steven Luce replies: ``In a post earlier this year I recall figuring that WRMI was running around 930 transmitter hours per month of WRN programming. That is a lot of electricity use for supposedly unpaid airtime. Given the age of the WRMI transmitters it is likely that any frequency changes would have to be done manually as there is no capability to automate that function? Might explain why they are tied to a single frequency. Staff limitations? Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` Alexander Miatlikov, Denmark, replies: ``With all that unpaid airtime (WRN, Radio Liberty, and also very likely Radio Slovakia Int., Radio Prague Int. WGB list does not show anything slightly above 28207, but a broad search led to several in the now defunct WI5V roster. And there was only one frequency with any USB QSOs, 28340, rag-chewing in very colloquial Spanish. BTW, Google translate makes ``rag-chewing`` into ``charla informal`` which is pretty accurate, rather than a literal ``masticando el trapo``. They are on slightly skewed frequencies, one too bass, one too treble, and may well be communicating at a local level, accidentally skipping into Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Re my traces of French Canadian on 93.5, during an Es opening from June 22: ``93.5 at 0126, trace of French Canadian, CCI.
