The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Not sure exactly of the final layout of the show at this hour but here's the direction
we're going in: Al Gore's big Iraq speech in San Francisco at the Commonwealth Club
and the state of the Democrat party on Iraq. We'll cut the hot sots (sound on tape)
from the speech for your enjoyment. Not sure the Dems are differing much from the
Bush administration, although one of the big issues out there include unilateralism
vs. multilateralism. Should we get the U.N. on board first or kick it solo? Plus,
the language of the congressional resolution Bush sent to the Hill is to "broad" to
quote Joe Biden. Lawmakers are seeking to narrow action to strictly Iraq as opposed
to the "region". Also, we'll take a look at how a possible war with Iraq is playing
out on the campaign trail.
And hey, did you see "The National Security Strategy of the United States of America"
document released Friday by the Bush administration? We fullscreened some language
from it on Friday. It's already shaping up to be one of the great underplayed stories
out there. With a positively messianic patois, rather breathtaking I would say, the
new doctrine has huge implications for our foreign policy and a new global order. I
suspect this will be an undercurrent to our discussion tonight..
Our all star lineup is TBD at this point...We got a number of calls out...
Also, that gal in Indiana who was caught on taping beating her kid was crying all over
TV in the last day. We'll take a look at the case with Tacopina and Wendy Murphy.
They took the kid away from her and she wants her back. Should she get her back?
We'll get into it...
In the Real Deal, we'll do the huge P. Diddy endorsement of McCall and Cooter's
causing a uproar in his congressional bid down in VA-1...In the Buzz we got Al
Sharpton who I'm sure will have some choice things to say about Gore's speech...Plus,
Kentucky Governor Paul Patton's tearful press conference about his extramarital
affair...Howard will be here too but not sure if we'll put him near the top or do him
in the Buzz...
Here's that new Hardball "hot seat" website http://www.msnbc.com/news/810538.asp
So we had the big Mortman Soiree over the weekend and I must say, never have I been in
a room with so many beautiful people since I watched the season finale of
"90210"....alone. A number of notable attendees included The Nation's David Corn,
Michael Barone, Kellyanne Conway, Donna Brazile, Martha Brandt from Newsweek, Roll
Call's Ed Henry, The Post's Dana Milbank and Lloyd Grove...The food was good and
liquor, top shelf...Sources tell me Cafe Milano catered but the tasty morsels I ate
had a decidedly Asian bent. Supposedly I'm getting an official review of the food
sent by an attendee and will forward along...
