The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Hardball airs at 7, 11 & 2 am et and 4, 8, & 11 pm pt
As you know, MSNBC is committed to bringing you the news, whenever and wherever it
happens....Sometimes breaking news occurs during our show or its re-air at 11 pm & 2
am et...If you don't see Hardball at the appointed times, it means we decided to take
you to an important breaking news story...Last night for example, we were pre-empted
at 11 pm et due to the California forest fires...Of course, commensurate with our
editorial philosophy is the fact that the guests and topics in The Briefing are always
subject to change at at moment's notice...We'll always keep your best interests in
mind for sure..
We lead with the New York Times splash on Saddam's possible role in the continued
attacks against our forces in Iraq...How plausible is it? What does it mean for our
strategy and troop morale? Ret. General Wayne Downing weighs in....
In the B block we'll go behind the 3rd quarter economic boom with fmr. Clintonista
Labor Secretary Robert Reich and Martin Anderson of the Hoover Institution...
In case you didn't know it, this is national Protection from Pornography Week
according to the President
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/10/20031025-1.html
We'll talk to Sandy Rios of the Concerned Women for America about what it means and
whether we're being protected from pornography or not...Is the White House doing
enough? Do even we need to be protected? Has porn gone mainstream? That sort of
thing...You get where we're going here folks...
The Buzz consists of Janet, Howard & Barnicle...(Parshall, Fineman & Mike for you
newcomers)...Last night Mortman was at an Empower America dinner where Rummy gave a
ringing defense of operations in Iraq and said the American people haven't heard
enough of the good news...We'll roll some of the sound and kick it around with our
panel...I'm also thinking of throwing some economy stuff in there as well...Plus, our
friends over at the RNC are asking CBS to allow a group of historians and people who
knew the Reagans personally to review the movie...If not, Chairman Gillespie requests,
I love this part, a crawl every 10 minutes under the movie saying that "the program is
a fictional portrayal of the Reagans and the Reagan Presidency, and they should not
consider it to be historically accurate." The crawl is the text that scrolls across
the bottom of the screen when you watch MSNBC...

The New York Times - whose editorial page tirelessly campaigns against any and all tax
cuts and sees government as our salvation from virtually every problem - carried an
item last Monday (Oct. 27) that must have caused the newspaper's editorial staff to
suffer the journalistic equivalent of shock and awe.
