The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Another action packed thriller of a show centered around the revelation of Mark
Felt as Deep Throat...Leslie Stahl of CBS News, a veteran of the Watergate era
will share with us her notebook from that time period and what Deep Throat's
identity means to our understanding of the story...She scored the first
pictures of the Watergate burglars the day after the burglary, for
example...We'll show you the tape to prove the veracity of that claim...Leslie
will bottom line the sights, sounds and smells of this fateful epoch...A
"net-net" if you will...
David Shuster interviews Felt's co-author of his biography 1979 "The FBI
Pyramid", Ralph De Toledano to give some more insight into Felt, his background
and his motives...In the book Felt, btw, adamantly denied that he was Deep
Throat...Shuster just explained the story to me and it's a doozy...Apparently
De Toledano's share of the memoir was mysteriously (at least to him) bought out
from him a year and a half ago for $5,000 by the Felt family...He never knew
Felt was the man until this week...
And did Mark Felt violate DOJ policies and possibly the law by leaking info to
the Post? Former Reagan administration prosecutor/uber-lawyer Joe DiGenova
thinks so and calls the "whistleblower" first amendment protection argument
"baloney." He'll give us his take on why Felt isn't quite up to the hero
status that his supporters are making him out to be...
We finish up with some serious slicin and dicin from Tony and Timothy Noah from
Slate...Noah's been on this story for years and even fingered Felt as Deep
Throat way back in 1999...
