            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

As promised we go deep inside the Gitmo debate over whether to close it or keep
it open...This is a hot one folks...The Human Rights types are saying it's a
recruiting tool for Al-Qaeda and highlights America's hypocrisy in fighting
against terrorism in defense of the rule of law while torturing people at the
same time...Others say, let's get real, these guys are barbarians who are out
to kill us and deserve no five star hotel treatment...We'll talk to a lawyer
for 11 of the Gitmo detainees Tom Wilner fmr. CIA bin laden hunter guy Gary
Schroen, Amnesty International's Bill Shultz and Philly radio host Michael
Smerconish...Those who know Philly talk radio are certainly down with "The Big
Talker 1210"...Plus South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham...

We draw editorial sustenance around the Time magazine expose on Gitmo...Here's
a little teaser http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1071284,00.html

In the back half, we talk to that piece's co-author Michael Duffy (Time mag
Washington Bureau Chief), NY Post's Deborah Orin (Also a DC Bureau Chief) and
John "The Survivor" Harris who wrote that new book on Clinton's
presidency....Along with Gitmo we'll do Bush on the offensive at last night's
GOP fundraiser and Condi's comments last night on the Senate's lynching
apology...
