            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Lots of developing news on a number of fronts: We're now receiving word from
London that four bombers died in the attacks last Thursday...Authorities are
calling them suicide bombers and house raids have been carried out in the city
of Leeds where the bombers may have lived...President Bush met with Senate
leaders this morning for breakfast where the topic was the SCOTUS vacancy...Few
clues are known about the content of the meeting but Minority Leader Reid said
of Bush: "He didn't give us any names"...

And of course you saw the fireworks at the White House briefing yesterday with
Press Secretary Scott McClellan...We're monitoring today's briefing today and
will bring you the highlights...Dems are really pouncing on Rove and the White
House's refusal to comment on whether Rove was involved in the leak (a fact
McClellan denied two years yet Rove's lawyer confirmed last week to
Newsweek)...In 2003 President Bush and McClellan said that anyone caught
leaking the name of Joe Wilson's wife would be fired and that it was "totally
ridiculous" to think Rove was involved...Yesterday, however, McClellan
suggested he was unable to comment due to an ongoing investigation...

We'll talk to NBC White House Correspondent David Gregory, who was in
yesterday's briefing and will be there again today, David Shuster who'll do a
background package to bring you up to speed complete with hot sound, fmr.
Clinton Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers and fmr. Deputy Asst. to the President
for Communications Tucker Eskew...Heck, we're even gonna throw Dana Milbank
into the mix who wrote a comprehensive play by play of yesterday's
briefing...This truly is a "pop the popcorn" segment!

And it didn't get much play yesterday but The Sunday Mail paper in London
reported on a secret UK memo outlining U.S. & U.K. troop withdrawal timetables
in Iraq...Both London and Washington acknowledge the existence of the memo but
are saying nothing is firm or has been decided...We'll talk to Simon Walters,
the journalist who broke the story...

Plus, we'll round out the show with Democratic Senator Joe Biden (DE) on all of
the above...We're also working on a GOP senator...

Please join us...Thanks! Dominic Bellone wrote, compiled and edited The
Hardball Briefing from Washington, DC
