The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
One word for tonight's show: blockbuster. All of Washington is reacting to
President Bush's speech about the Iraq War from this morning. Hardball will be
the scene for the best of the best reactions from Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), the
Vietnam veteran who single-handedly ignited the withdrawal debate on Capitol
Hill, and Sen. John Warner (R-VA), the former Navy secretary who was with the
president in Annapolis this morning.
In his remarks at the Naval Academy, the president said, "As we make progress
toward victory, Iraqis will take more responsibility for their security, and
fewer U.S. forces will be needed to complete the mission. America will not
abandon Iraq. We will not turn that country over to the terrorists and put the
American people at risk. Iraq will be a free nation and a strong ally in the
Middle East -- and this will add to the security of the American people."
The president's message was clear, but was it enough for his critics? In case
you missed it, here's the speech:

Chris also will talk with NBC's Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea
Mitchell and Stephen Hayes, senior writer for the Weekly Standard. Mitchell and
Hayes will fill us in on the strategy and plans behind the president's speech.
Plus, former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-WY), close friend of both Vice President
Cheney and former President Bush, drops by to share his thoughts on the speech,
the war, and the state of affairs around the Capitol.

Finally, a quick note of explanation and apology to you, our loyal readers.
Yesterday, some of you reported receiving a spam email message distributed
through the Hardball mailing list. That was a technical mishap. You should not
have received that and your Hardball team (especially your briefer) will work
to ensure that it does not happen again. Thanks for your understanding and
patience.
