The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Tonight, Hardball will have a side-by-side look at the comments today by two
heavyweights in the war debate: Vice President Dick Cheney and Rep. John Murtha
(D-PA). Newsweek's Howard Fineman will break down with Chris the significance
and impact of each man's remarks.
In a speech this morning at Fort Drum, New York, Cheney said that "by staying
in this fight, we honor both the ideals and the security interests of the
United States of America." You can read the whole speech here:

Earlier this morning on NBC's Today, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), catalyst of the
withdrawal debate, said that "we've become the enemy" and "the sooner, the
better" for the U.S. to get out of Iraq. You can replay his interview here:

It's less than ten days until Iraqis go to the polls to vote for a
constitutionally elected government. With that countdown underway, Chris will
resume Hardball's look this week at the different plans for ending the war. On
that same topic, don't miss the thoughts of Hardball War Council members Ken
Allard and Jack Jacobs here on Hardblogger:

Time's Michael Ware will also join Chris from Baghdad to talk about the
situation on the ground.
Hardball's David Shuster will take a look at the comments this week by
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, who said the "idea that
we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong."
Chris will also talk with the parents of a slain soldier, Paul Schroeder and
Rosemary Palmer, who started a non-profit called "Families of the Fallen for
Change" to push Congress to take steps to bring the U.S. involvement in the war
to an end. Find out more about their organization here:

Plus, former CIA agent Bob Baer, whose story inspired the new film "Syriana,"
will be here to talk about ending the war in Iraq and the use of covert
operations in the war.
And that's not all -- Richard Cohen, columnist for the Washington Post, who
called for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to step down in his piece
today, and Human Events editor Terry Jeffrey will share their reactions to the
veep's speech and the debate over ending the war. Read Cohen's piece here:
