            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Is it a GOP coup? As Team Hardball finalizes today's briefing, reports are that
there is an effort underway in the House of Representatives to call for new
leadership elections and permanently block Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) from returning
to a top leadership post. The National Journal's "Hotline On Call" has more on
these breaking developments: http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/.

On Hardball tonight, NBC News' Mike Viqueira will have all the latest on what's
happening today. Chris will hash out the Abramoff fallout with two veterans of
the White House and the capital lobbying scene: Ed Rogers, former advisor for
President George H.W. Bush, and John Podesta, former chief of staff for
President Bill Clinton. They'll tell us what the Abramoff scandal really means
for Congress, lobbyists, and the future of the GOP leadership. And Hardball's
David Shuster will have more on how Abramoff's scandal could bring DeLay down.

And for more on one aspect of this story -- the dumping of Abramoff-tainted
donations to charities -- Chris will talk to Kenneth Gross, an attorney and
campaign finance expert, and former federal prosecutor DeMaurice Smith, who
will talk about the legal ramifications of the cash crash. Newsweek's Michael
Isikoff and the Washington Post's John Harris also will join Chris to talk
about potential changes in the GOP leadership.

All of that is on the show tonight along with MSNBC's Chief Washington
Correspondent Norah O'Donnell, who will be here to share her interview with
Army Gen. George Casey Jr., commander of the U.S. forces in Iraq.
