            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Tonight on Hardball, Army Major Gen. John Batiste (Ret.), who commanded troops
in Iraq and was a high-ranking adviser at the Pentagon, wants Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld to resign and he's here to tell Chris why. A 31-year military
veteran, Batiste retired last November after turning down a promotion which
would have made him a three-star general. Batiste, one of six retired generals
in recent months who have called for Rumsfeld's removal, says that Rumsfeld's
management style and decisions in conducting the war have damaged the war
effort.

Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will have more on the latest documents in
the CIA leak probe that are raising new questions about what and for whom Vice
President Cheney's handwritten notes on a copy of Ambassador Joe Wilson's
column were intended back in 2003. Plus, Ed Rogers, former adviser to the first
President Bush, and Rev. Al Sharpton will be here to talk about all of the
excitement in the landscape of the 2006 midterm election. And what does New
Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's re-election victory this past Saturday say about
voter interest this year? Check out the Washington Post's sharp midterm look
today:

Also tonight, NBC News Congressional Producer Mike Viqueira will join Chris to
talk about the latest on the FBI's investigation of Rep. William Jefferson
(D-LA) for bribery. How much cash can fit in your kitchen freezer? The FBI
reportedly thinks that Jefferson knows. Learn more from the AP here:

And don't miss Chris' interview with Mark Bowden, national correspondent for
Atlantic Monthly and author of "Guests of the Ayatollah." Bowden, who also
wrote "Black Hawk Down," will talk about America's battle with radical Islam
and relationship with Iran. Find out more about him here:
