            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

President Bush met with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf today at the White
House. Musharraf is making headlines for saying that former Deputy Sec. of
State Richard Armitage told his government after 9/11 that they better help the
U.S. or else they would end up in the "Stone Age." Armitage denies the claim,
and Musharraf declined to say more at today's press conference with Bush,
citing his book deal with Simon and Schuster. The Washington Post reports on
the newser:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/22/AR2006092200105.html.

Tonight on Hardball, Chris will talk with NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs
Correspondent Andrea Mitchell about the situation and NBC's interview today
with Armitage. MSNBC.com has more: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14943975/.

Also tonight, Hardball Correspondent David Shuster reports on how some
Democrats are featuring a familiar face in their television ads: President
Bush. Matthew Dowd, former chief strategist for the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign,
and Ron Fournier, former national political writer for the Associated Press,
will be here to talk about strategy for Decision 2006. They're both co-authors
of a new book called "Applebee's America" and co-founders of HOTSOUP.com
(http://www.hotsoup.com/).

Plus, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr., founder of the Hip Hop Caucus, will join Chris
to talk about a nationwide movement by religious leaders, veterans and peace
activists to protest the Iraq War and call for the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
The Washington Post reports on their plans:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/21/AR2006092100924.html.

The Hardballers, Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen and Family Research Council
President Tony Perkins, will talk about strategy for winning control of
Congress in 2006. Plus, John Harwood, chief Washington correspondent for CNBC
and political editor for the Wall Street Journal, will report on a battle for a
U.S. House seat in western North Carolina, where former NFL quarterback Heath
Shuler (D) is challenging Rep. Charles Taylor (R-NC).

By the way, don't miss two chances to see former President Clinton: tonight at
8 p.m. Eastern on MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" and Sunday on NBC's
"Meet the Press with Tim Russert."
