            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The Iraq Study Group says the situation in Iraq is "grave and deteriorating."
After months of deliberation, the first copy of the Iraq Study Group's finished
report was delivered to President Bush this morning
(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16068589/). Tonight, two members of the group
will join us: retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former U.S.
Senator and Virginia Governor Charles Robb. We'll hear how the group came to
its conclusions and what the members think the President should do now.
Earlier today, NBC's Brian Willams sat down with the co-chairmen of the Iraq
Study Group, former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III and former
Congressman Lee Hamilton. We'll take a look at that interview and hear what
the chairmen had to say about their recommendations. Read the full report
here: www.usip.org/isg.

79 policy recommendations, including the withdrawl of most U.S. troops by early
2008 and direct discussions between the U.S. and Syria and Iran are listed in
the report. Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will be here with more on the
story, and later in the show, Dan Bartlett, Counselor to President Bush, will
join us from the White House to talk about the President's response.

"So Now What, Mr. President?" Newsweek's Evan Thomas asks that question this
week in his cover story (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16013640/site/newsweek/).
He'll be here to talk about Bush and Iraq - plus, the Gates confirmation
hearing. And we'll continue the discussion with NBC's David Gregory and Chuck
Todd, MSNBC Political Analyst and Hotline Editor-in-Chief.
