            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Could there be any more political news today? Outrage abounds as stories of
mistreatment at veterans' hospitals pour in from across the country and more
details emerge from the wounded troops themselves at Congressional hearings.
We'll hear one account here on the show.

Vice President Dick Cheney is treated for more heart-related health problems.
And as Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Barack Obama (D-IL) return from weekend
events in Selma, Alabama, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wins the straw
poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Plus, former New York
City mayor Rudy Giuliani's (R) estranged son weighs in on his father's race for
the presidency. Take a breath and put on your seatbelt, it's all on Hardball
tonight!

We begin with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, reporting from Iraq, on
how troops there are reacting to news that their wounded comrades have been
neglected after returning home from duty. Then, Vietnam War veteran Sen. Jim
Webb (D-VA), recipient of the Marine Cross award for his service, will be here
to talk about what needs to be done now.

Read today's piece from the Washington Post's Dana Priest, who broke the
original Walter Reed story and the news that the problem is more widespread
than first reported
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/04/AR2007030401394_2.html.

Earlier today, Rep. John F. Tierney (D-MA) chaired a House subcommittee at the
hospital, where former patients testified about their experiences. He joins
Chris tonight with Rep. David Dreier (R-CA) to talk about how this problem can
be solved, and what's being done to take care of veterans at other facilities.

Annette McCloud's husband, Capt. Wendell McCloud, is one of the former patients
who testified at today's hearings. She'll tell Chris about her husband's
ordeal. We'll also hear from IAVA spokesman Todd Bowers, a former Marine who
was shot in the face in Iraq, and NBC News Military Analyst Gen. Barry
McCaffrey (Ret.) on the surge of complaints.

Then, how many Democratic nominees can one Alabama town hold? We'll switch
gears to the latest in the race for '08. This weekend Selma, Alabama hosted
two contenders and a former president. Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL) was with Sen.
Barack Obama (D-IL), he'll be here to tell us about that. And we'll hash out
all the '08 news with Newsweek's Howard Fineman and Lynn Sweet from the Chicago
Sun-Times. Get the Scoop from Sweet here: http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/.
