The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Show us the money! The big first quarter numbers are rolling in, with Sen.
Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney (R) off and running
with the most campaign cash reported so far: $26 and $23 million raised
respectively.
Tonight on Hardball, what does all the money mean? We'll hear from Romney
National Press Secretary Kevin Madden about how that camp will put the cash to
work and how the other GOP hopefuls are stacking up. Former NYC mayor Rudy
Giuliani (R) raised $15 million and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) - just back from a
trip to Iraq which included a tour of Baghdad - rounded out the GOP top three
with $12.5 million.
Hardball's David Shuster will have a full report on the cash contest and we'll
talk with NBC's Andrea Mitchell, who was in New Hampshire this morning, and
Lynn Sweet from the Chicago Sun-Times. Check out the latest scoop from Sweet
on the dash for cash and the Obama fundraising operation:

Then, will former senator/actor Fred Thompson join the already crowded field of
Republican candidates? The latest USA Today-Gallup Poll has the "Law and
Order" star in third place among potential GOP contenders. We'll talk to his
friend and fellow Tennessean - Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN).
And our Monday Night Hardballers - Democratic consultant Jenny Backus and Ed
Rogers, GOP strategist and former adviser to the President George H.W. Bush -
will join Chris to hash out the day in politics.
Tomorrow, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) and Teresa Heinz Kerry play Hardball!
