            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
TGIH!

Thursday night at the Palm is always the best way to start the weekend if
you're a political junkie, because literally painted on the walls and sitting
in the chairs are many of the powerful people who make things happen in
Washington. There's Senator Ben Nelson, in an electric blue tie, holding court
to a spellbound table, and don't miss NBC News' Tim Russert with his CNBC
producer Barbara Fant, and back in the booths it's Tommy Jacomo seating Don
King, whose work on behalf of President Bush in 2004 is still being talked
about. King was chatting up a few advisers to Senator Hillary Clinton as well
as Clinton fundraiser (and husband of Greta Van Susteren) John Coale.

By the way, Tim Russert begins his world tour for the paperback edition of his
New York Times bestseller, "Wisdom of our Fathers," right here on Hardball this
Monday!

As we end our Washington week, a White House compromise with Congress on
benchmarks for progress in Iraq looks more likely. Under intense pressure from
both parties, how much will President Bush back down? Tune in to Hardball
tonight for all the inside scoop from some of the best political reporters
around, including Time's Karen Tumulty, L.A. Times columnist Ron Brownstein and
Orangeburg, South Carolina's favorite son, Eugene Robinson from the Washington
Post. Plus, did Karl "The Architect" Rove really lose his temper when news
leaked of the president's meeting with Republican moderates earlier this week?
We'll talk about Rove's role in the GOP's internal turmoil.

Later in the show, more on Iraq with NBC's Jim Miklaszewski and our
Hardballers: radio talk show host Ron Reagan and former Vice President Cheney
aide Ron Christie. We'll also talk about what's happened so far in the long
road to 2008 and the role Iraq will play with presidential historian Michael
Beschloss, author of "Presidential Courage." And NBC's Lisa Myers will be here
with a report on an FBI probe involving Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons.

Plus, as summer road trip season nears - look for Hardballers taking over a
beach near you soon - will gas prices continue to soar? Robert Hormats, author
of "The Price of Liberty," will join us to talk about the relationship between
Iraq, the economy and pain at the pump.

Happy Mothers' Day from Hardball! Earlier today, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough's
talked with '08 contender - and mom of Chelsea - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)
about her plans for Mothers' Day; we'll show you a clip tonight.
