The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Dear Hardballers,
Johnny's Half Shell rocked today as the Hardball team gave David Shuster an
appropriate send off to...marriage. He exchanges vows with the lovely and
talented Julianna Goldman, one of Bloomberg TV's finest reporters, this
weekend. Tonight's piece is his last as a single man, don't miss it!
Between crab cakes, po' boys and a little impromptu singing from Chris, the
Hardballers toasted Shuster and assured him that if he shows the same patience
in his marriage that he shows during his daily script approval sessions, he and
Julianna should be just fine. A special appearance by Phil Griffin, a former
Harball topper -- now Senior VP of NBC News -- added to the festivities.
Congratulations, David and Julianna!
PS. Don't miss Monday's Briefing for a full wedding report!
Now, on to the show...
Up first, as Iraqis prepare for the possibility of a fall withdrawal,
Washington is at work finishing the war spending bill. But as the compromise
moves toward completion, members on both sides of the aisle remain unsatisfied.
We'll talk about it all with Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE), and later in the show,
more with House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Il).
Then: "I believe the deputy was not fully candid." Testifying today before the
House Judiciary Committee, former Justice Department official Monica Goodling
accused Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty of misleading Congress about last
year's firings of eight U.S. attorneys. According the Goodling, the statements
made to Congress by McNulty were "incomplete or inaccurate in a number of
respects." We'll have the latest.
Plus, we'll hash out all the news you're talking about, including Iraq, the
latest on the road to '08 and Rosie's rants this morning on The View with
Newsweek's Howard Fineman, Jill Zuckman from the Chicago Tribune and the
Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart.
