Before Congress checks out for recess on Friday, expect one action-packed week
here on the Hill. With special guest host Mike Barnicle at the reins, we're
working overtime at Hardball HQ to bring you all the hot politics.
On the show tonight, the latest on the first official meeting between President
Bush and Britain's new Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Today, the two held their
first joint press conference at Camp David and vowed to continue cooperation on
the war in Iraq. We'll get a report from Hardball's David Shuster and
Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) will join us to
talk about about the future of the U.S.-U.K. alliance and Iraq.
Meanwhile on Capitol Hill, a group of House Democrats led by Rep. Jay Inslee
(D-WA) plan to introduce a resolution tomorrow to begin impeachment
proceedings against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Rep. Inslee plays
Hardball with us tomorrow. Congressional Democrats are also working to add
amendments to a defense spending measure that would require an Iraq troop
redeployment to begin within 60 days and the closure of Guantanamo Bay. We'll
hear from Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) on the Hill happenings. And is the surge in
Iraq working? That's tonight's Hardball debate with Michael O'Hanlon, Brookings
Institution's Sr. Fellow on Foreign Policy Studies, and Brian Katulis from the
Center for American Progress.
Then, after the Iraqi soccer team won the Asian Soccer Championship, tens of
thousands of Iraqis poured into the streets for peaceful celebrations. Will
the sport bring Iraqis together? NBC's Jane Arraf will have a special report.
Plus, is Mac back? As Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) works on a campaign re-launch,
former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is predicting a Hillary-Obama ticket for the
Democrats. We'll hash out the latest in the always-hot race for '08 with
tonight's Hardball Panel - Salon editor Joan Walsh, Jonathan Capehart from the
Washington Post, and the Weekly Standard's Matt Continetti. That's all tonight
