            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

A dud, a flip-flopper and a hick -- that's Fmr. top Bush adviser Dan Bartlett's
assessment of the frontrunners for the '08 Republican nomination, according to
a report in today's Washington Post.

Tonight we'll take a look at whether these candidates lived up to their billing
during last night's GOP debate in Dearborn, Michigan. Hardball's David Shuster
will have a report with all the highlights and then we'll hear from the
reporters who covered the event -- NBC's David Gregory, the Washington Post's
Dan Balz and Bloomberg's Margaret Carlson.

Next, it's said that a great deal of communication has nothing to do with the
words being said. We'll bring in body language analyst John Neffinger to assess
the GOP field's performance last night.

Then, Fmr. NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) and Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) clashed
over taxes and line-item vetoes in what was perhaps the most heated exchange of
the night. Who won? That's our Hardball Debate with Fmr. Presidential candidate
Pat Buchanan (R) and Romney Senior Adviser Barbara Comstock.

Plus, Atlantic City's missing mayor has resurfaced -- where has he been hiding
for the past few weeks? And which former U.S. President said today that Vice
Pres. Cheney has been a "disaster" for the country?

We'll discuss these political headlines and more in our Hardball roundtable
discussion with the New York Times' Mark Leibovich, Roll Call's Emily Heil and
the Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody.
