            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Can you capture lightening in a bottle twice?

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will find out in just a few months as primary voters go
to the polls during his second presidential bid in eight years. Hardball's
David Shuster will have a report with the latest campaign news and then we'll
talk to Sen. McCain about recent attacks he's made on GOP rivals and his plan
for dealing with the volatile situation in the Middle East.

We'll then take a closer look at foreign policy in the Bush Administration in
our Hardball Debate. As America's top diplomat, has Sec. of State Condi Rice
been a success or a failure? Radio Talk show host Ed Schultz and Fmr. Bush aide
Ron Christie will discuss.

Also, Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) has given his first interview since his arrest in
an airport sex sting to NBC's Matt Lauer. We'll have all the highlights and
then you'll then hear from attorney Stan Brand, who is representing Sen. Craig
in his Senate Ethics Committee investigation.

Plus, third quarter fundraising figures are out -- which GOP candidate is the
NASCAR crowd's fan-favorite? And a new Gallup poll shows Sen. Hillary Clinton
(D-NY) far ahead of her Democratic rivals, so why could she still lose the
battle over gender?

We'll discuss these stories and more in our roundtable discussion with the
Weekly Standard's Matt Continetti, the Houston Chronicle's Julie Mason and the
Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart.
