            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Tonight - Hardball is live from the debate site at Washington University in St.
Louis!

Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden will face off at 9pm ET for the first and
only vice presidential debate live in St. Louis, Missouri. The political stakes
could not be higher as both candidates attempt to establish their credentials
in a debate that could turn the tide for their ticket. It's a big night for
politics and MSNBC will be covering it all night long.

First up on the 5pm Hardball -- Newsweek's Howard Fineman and NBC News
Political Director Chuck Todd will be on hand to preview the debate. What does
each candidate need to do? Who has the most to gain from tonight, and who has
the most to lose? They'll break it down for you.

Then, the Senate passed the revised bailout package last night, putting the
pressure on the House to follow suit in the new vote scheduled for Friday.
We'll talk to Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) to see how
they voted the first time and where they stand now.

And then, coming up on a special 7pm version of Hardball - how important is the
VP debate in the race for the White House? Will Palin benefit from low
expectations tonight? Will Biden's prosecutorial approach help him or hurt him?
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, host of "Morning Joe", and Politico's Roger Simon will
give us the rundown on the state of the '08 race.

The debate starts at 9 p.m. and will be followed by specials from David
Gregory, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and Rachel Maddow. Stay tuned for a
special midnight edition of Hardball and the rest of MSNBC's nightlong coverage
of the 2008 vice presidential debate. It's only on MSNBC - the place for
politics!
