The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Leading off tonight: Will the real John McCain please stand up!
Who is the real John McCain? Is he the man who last night questioned Obama's
relationship to Bill Ayers? Or is he the man who corrected a woman last week in
Minnesota who claimed Obama was an Arab? Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) and Rep. Heather
Wilson (R-NM) will help us answer this question.
Next up, campaigning today in Pennsylvania, McCain reminded voters of the
plumber he made famous last night during the debate.
Joe the Plumber -- and McCain the candidate -- were also on Obama's mind today
in New Hampshire. Obama questions if Joe really is the man McCain's fighting
for.
Also, does McCain have any tricks left up his sleeve? We'll take a look at last
night's debate and at whether McCain can still turn this thing around.
More than a few eyebrows were raised last night when McCain mentioned abortion
and the "health" of the mother.
What did he mean by that? What was the point of the air quotes? And how have
women reacted to his comments? Tonight we'll talk about this with Cecile
Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and McCain
supporter, Barbara Comstock.
And we'll talk about the role of body language in last night's debate with
Political Director, Chuck Todd, and MSNBC Chief Washington Correspondent, Norah
O'Donnell.
Also, it's not out of the ordinary to take a page from a winning playbook, but
why would John McCain follow in the footsteps of ... Gerald Ford and Jimmy
Carter? It looks like a new ad is harkening back to Carter in 1980. That's in
the Politics Fix with Newsweek's, Jonathan Alter, and Washington Bureau Chief,
Tom DeFrank.
And not one vote for Barack Obama has been counted yet so how does he have the
power to delay the World Series ... and a World Series featuring the
Philadelphia Phillies, no less? You'll find out in the Hardball Sideshow.
