The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
First up: the road to recovery?
Today, President-elect Barack Obama announced key members of his economic team
including New York Federal Reserve President Timonthy Geithner as Treasury
Secretary and former Treasury Sec. Lawrence Summers as Director of the National
Economic Council. The new team is experienced, but will they be able to hit the
ground running? How much worse will the economy get - as even Obama predicts -
before it gets better? Obama Transition Team Economic advisor Laura Tyson and
CNBC's Jim Cramer will weigh in.

Then, bailout bonanza! Major financial inustries have been asking the federal
government for handouts to bolster their stocks against the weakening economy,
from AIG to the "Big Three" automakers. Today, the federal regulators approved
a plan to pump $20 billion into struggling Citigroup as well as back more than
$300 billion in loans. Is there an end in sight? And can American taxpayers
afford yet another bailout? We'll ask the strategists: Democrat Steve McMahon
and Republican Todd Harris.

And the Obama team is considering a new economic stimulus package with the
intent of creating 2.5 million new jobs. Where is all this money coming from?
Will Obama's stimulus scheme work? Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey
(R-TX) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) will debate what should be done to help out
the economy.
Later, he's not in the White House yet, but Obama has already taken over the
schoolyard and the football field! Plus, our new feature, "Final Daze," will
look at the dwindling days of the 43rd President of the United States. That and
more in the Hardball Sideshow.
And in the Politics Fix, will Obama's cool confidence be enough to stabilize
the failing financial system? The markets are already up since the announcement
of his future economic agenda, but what else can he de before he officially
starts the job? WashingtonPost.com's Chris Cillizza and Time's Jay Carney will
break it all down.
