Alexis -- I recommend KB_SQL from Knowledge Based Systems (http://www.knowledgebasedsys.com). It is already in use at many VA sites to access VistA data and present it via ODBC/SQL. It has a proven track record on multiple M implementations, including GT.M (it has been in production use on GT.M for many years). However, it is not open source free software, unlike Linux and GT.M on Linux.
Aida will definitely be a lot more work than KB_SQL. Let me dig down a little deeper. What would you like to do with ODBC/SQL access to VistA data? There may be other ways to accomplish the same goal, for example through the use of an XML inteface (e.g., http://bengal.missouri.edu/~smithab/CECS383_Term_Project.html) or ESIObjects (http://sourceforge.net/projects/esiobjects).
