Bhaskar's cautions beat me to it. I always agree with him. :-)

It has been stable in my hands so far.
Performance looks good to me. There is something about the techniques used
that is more efficient than running an emulator with its performance hit.

Cautions:
coLinux is early in its development, version 0.6.2

It consists of a special linux kernel patched to nestle down into the guts of
Microsoft XP (mine is XP Home on my Centrino laptop. Also works on Win 2000.
Not Win 98 or below.) CoLinux provides a "vmlinux" and a "colinux-daemon.exe"
Under that various versions of linux can be run. Sourceforge provides Debian,
Fedora, and Gentoo versions premade. It is running nicely for me now. It is a
bit of a tangle getting the network setup.

I can access the network via Network Bridge. I can mount any of my
pre-existing linux partiton along with the special coLinux partitions created
within special Windows files.

There is no mounting a windows partition once windows has touched it. But
Samba can be run over the network to read-write into those partitions. (Not on
my list of accomplishments yet.) To date coLinux has access to USB ports, nor
to serial or parallel devices. I expect to be able to Samba into anything
mounted in XP but that leaves out the linux partitions on my usb drives. I
don't know about 1394 firewire.

Give it a try.

For production it might be safer to run your linux on a stand-alone box. I
have those running, but the coLinux has become my playground and learning
tool. Nice to switch around unencumbered by dual boot constraints.
regards,
johnleo
