I now know much more about VistA, though not enough to install a hospital pharmacy :-) So do not think I have the answer to all problems... BUT Almost 20 years ago, I managed to print real pretty prescriptions on the LaserJet but could not conquer the IHS pharmacy package, the NDF, etc. etc. I kludged together my own little phamacy package and was able to select the drug from that. When I needed to print a new medication, not in the database, I added it that once and it was there for future use. In my community health center today I would have access to the formulary of the pharmacy that provides most of our patients' prescriptions and could havest that into my own formulary. Today I might add a web spider to go look up info on a drug, including packaging, cost, patient education materials. But I would not have a pharmacist until the practice reaches some critical size that would justify the cost. Grandpa Z, MD Healthcare is a human right... in Cuba.
