It has always impressed me about oriental thinking, that the most important
aspect of creativity is centered on the process of deciding what NOT to
include in the final result. The minimalist mist that washes over oriental
art is noteworthy in this regard.

DHCP/VistA presents the IT craftsman(person) with an endless and relatively
low cost supply of canvas, ink and brush. We are left with a vast array of
cluttered, messy excesses in this domain.

Apprentices should be encouraged to develop their mastery of the skill at
hand. This development into master craftsmen should leaves behind the
excesses of apprenticeship. Alas, in the IT industry, we are vexed by a
trade that makes the traditional apprenticeship an all too public and
enduring process.

Regards,

Richard.

P. S.

A master of a craft should know at least three ways to abuse every tool of
that trade.
