In Fileman you can have calculated fields. Their values are usually calculated on the fly. It is very common to have regular fields stuffed with calculated values within the Mumps code. There is nothing to prevent a programmer from allowing manual editing of such a field.

Subject: [Hardhats-members] Pedi Query - Amended data

I am working on setting up the things needed for a Pedi Growth Program.
Children need to have a correction for prematurity in the first few years,
which uses that EDC (estimated date of confinement) that I mentioned before.
Now, if the mother gives the registration clerk or someone else her EDC, that
can be used for the calculation, BUT if at some point an ultrasound is done
and it is decided that the EDC was not correct, then the gestational age
would need to be changed. So, that means the gestational age can usually be
calculated, but on occasion, it will be entered and not calculated.

Is there a standard way to handle "overrides", or is this another case where
just conditional programming will be required, or should the override just be
granted its own field and the program defaults to that if it is present.

Are calculated values usually granted their own field, or are the generated on
the fly?
