If a GT.M process is launched by JOBbing it off, even if the parent process
terminates (e.g., user logs off), the JOB'd process will continue. In fact,
GT.M goes to some trouble to insulate a JOB'd process from the parent so that a
signal sent to the one won' t touch the other. Sometime, check out the parent
process id of a JOB'd process with a Linux ps command.
Processes launched in the background from a Linux shell, e.g., mumps -run ^XYZ
& remain part of the process group of the shell (check what ps reports as the
parent process). Behavior is now influenced by shell settings.

I have a question about GTM.
When I launch a GTM shell, and then start the RPC
broker, I assume that it runs in the background
somehow. How does this work?
Will the code be shut down if I quit the shell (I
don't think so). Or how about if I log off the user?
