John Leo might like to jump in here as he set up something to print
prescriptions with a picture of the patient on them. I don't know how easily
his code would integrate with VistA, if it would at all.

For my nonEMR use, I use a prescription templates for Meds I commonly use, and
I suspect the template system in CPRS might be adaptable for writing
prescriptions by calling in the fields on a form to make the prescription,
i.e., name DOB, address, DEA number, doctor's name, etc. and then the med
fields. I don't know if that would work as I have only read about templates,
not made them. I assume you could put calculated fields in templates to get
the correct dose by patient weight, etc. It would have to be done very
carefully to avoid errors, which I suspect is at the root of Mark's desire to
have a pharmacist involved. However, I doubt Kevin has one in his practice,
so it will likely have to be doc checking doc.
