In planning for the the April bash, this news item provides opportunities for involvement of a major supplier of technology platforms for the EHR that ha salready been announced. By combining the work already done on Linux for GTM and GTM as a host for VistA the combined group of NE MUG, World VistA, VSA, Hardhats can convincingly present the "Enterprise View, Life Cycle Principles" perspective to VistA as an "Enterpise Information Architecture" for healthcare in the context of a "Heritage System" (in Bhasker's words). Enlisting John Glaser who is the only author of a book on Strategic Planning for Health Information Systems to portray how not only the Boston Healthcare Enterprises but the VA's Healthcare Enterprises have used the "Heritage" characteristics of the M data management evironment
in quite different but leading edge ways consistent with John Zachman's "Framework for Information Systems Architectures". Moreover, at the technology level, both ESI and Intersystems have provided tool sets and and developement environments that set the stage for use of the best recommend practices for getting not only the implementation technology architecture but also the the conceptual content commonly documented for common conventions need by the NHIN that ONCHIT Director Brailer clearly identified as essential. I will be interested to hear how the NEMUG takes this opportunity to get the maximum exposure about this achievement. VAs Steve Wagner is nearby and is involved in the VA's strategic activities. John Glaser (Partners) and John Halamka (CareGroup) all have linkages to HIMSS which is an eventual forum that this M story to be told at the April celebration should also be told through destroying the "legacy" label (vice the "Heritage" label) that has besmirched the M(UMPS) community in recent years. Telling this story should be part of revitalizing the Community and having the valuable cross discipinary forums that characterized the prior MUG/MTA Annual meetings. The below line of effort could contribute to this revitalization.
