I can't help with getting you going with VistA, but I can advise you
that Killing a GT.M process is not a good thing.  Next time, try the
Halt command.

The GT.M manuals are online in subdirectories of /usr/share/doc/gtm/.
Point your browser at /usr/share/doc/gtm/GTM-PG-UNIX4.4/index.htm for
the Programmers Guide.

As for VistA, what you get is the VistA equivalent of a blank slate.  I
am sure someone else on the group will respond with advice to get
bootstrapped.  Incidentally, if you are able to, it may be productive to
attend the VistA Community Meeting in Boston, April 7-10 (details at
http://worldvista.org).
